Gaines Shoe Repair

When I dropped off my favorite dress boots (stiletto heeled), I was a little put off. The man working was a bit dry and almost snippy, but perhaps he had a bad morning. He wasn’t sure if he could restitch the tongue to the boot 1. the shape of the shoe and 2. I wear a very small shoe and he wasn’t sure it would fit on his machine. He asked when I needed the boots and when I didn’t have an actual date, he told me I could come back in 2 days.
When I picked up my boots, he had sewn the tongue in perfectly (no visible marks), had replaced the taps (I had requested this), and fixed some areas on the patent leather. I actually had to search for some areas I knew were scuffed and damaged. I was about to ask him what he suggested I do to fix them. Very pleased indeed. He was very nice this afternoon, so the other day must have been a bad day, like everyone has. The cost was so inexpensive. The last place I used had charged me double for less work, and the other place destroyed my best shoes during a simple re-​tap.

This man really doesn’t know anything about shoe. He probably just know know how to little problems.
I brought in a pair of 1999 shoes. Which had crumble midsole due to aging. I went and got another midsole on my own. After collecting all the materials I came and visit this Me. Gaines guy. First he told me they were unfixable and just get a new pair. If you can’t reglue a sole back on to a shoe what makes you a professional shoe repair? Because I had to take my shoes home and glue them myself with adhesive glue. If someone like me can do this surely a «professional» shoe repair man can right? First and worst shoe repair shop I’ve ever been too.

The prices are cheap, the quality is okay, but the customer service is lacking at best. The lady who currently works there is snappy and quick to blame.
I took two pairs of shoes to the store, and the lady told me that I they were not sure one could be fixed, but that she would call me later on. I specified that I needed to have them ready by a certain date, as I was leaving town. She did call when she said she would (+1), and said the shoes could be fixed (+2), and told me both paris would be ready in around a week (+1). But, around the time I wanted to go pick up the shoes, she called me again to tell me that they hadn’t done the repair on the second pair of shoes yet (–2) because they needed my opinion on a detail. When I asked how long it would take for them to do the repair if I came in that day to give my opinion, she said it would take until after I left (–15). When I brought this up, the lady told me that it was essentially my fault because I hadn’t come in earlier to pick up the first pair of shoes, at which point she could have asked me about the detail that she had previously not informed me about (–50).
Not sure I’ll return here to fix my shoes.

Initial results are good. They replaced the tips on the heels of my pumps for only $ 7.60. They look great and the price was half of what Rawhide in Lewisville charged. Oh, and the repair from Rawhide lasted for one whole use, so I hope these last longer. *fingers crossed*
Update… the fix lasted for one wearing. I took them back and he was kind enough to return my money, so he gets points for that. I would try again since this was the second time and second place that could not repair the shoe. Seems like it should be a simple fix. I ended up just buying new shoes.

it was very difficult to understand anything the man said. he can basically only do simple repairs for cheap, which you can fix yourself with crazy glue and some polish. count out any types of women’s shoes, he won’t be able to fix them. the only reason this place is in business is because it’s the only shoe repair in the area. doubt I’ll be back.

Anytime we need our shoes fixed we take them to Mr. Gaines (not sure if that is really his name). He charges next to nothing and can fix just about any type of shoe. This shop is tiny and it seems they have been around forever — I think my mom took me here in kindergarten, over 20 years ago. I wish there were more small businesses like this and I’m happy that Gaines is still around.
