Food: Mango rolls(5⁄5) I am addicted. These are the best mango things I have ever tasted. I even brought these out to my white friends(some who hate mango) and they loved it. MUSTTRY. I need more. Service:(4.5÷5) The server was pretty stubborn at times, but once he opened up to us, he has been great. Environment:(4.5÷5) It’s a pretty place. But there’s a slight«vacant» feel to it.

Cold cut meat with vegetables. Look kind of different. But since I dont want to eat anything with rice or noodle this is actually a good meal.

Stopped by here for to go drinks and some sweets. There were only a few customers in the store with 2 servers/cashiers at that time. Not a busy afternoon. Those 2 cashiers kept talking in cantonese and didn’t even bother to greet or help us on the menu. After paying for our orders, the cashier-joyce rudely placed our change on the counter then walked away without letting us know or looking at us, and continued talking cantonese to the other server. Seriously? Owner save ur business, give her customer service lessons pls!

I had a really good first time experience here! I’m so satisfied. The food portion here is a surplus and the drinks are deliciously sweet(at least, the one I got). The service here is also super nice! I’ll start off with food first. So I came here with my parents for Father’s Day, and we wanted to try something new. As we walked in, we were politely greeted and seated. They let us take as long as we wanted to order and answered all the questions we had. We ended up only ordering 2 meals because one portion is A LOT. We ordered the BBQ Duck noodle soup and Udon noodles w/Seafood &XO sauce. Both were quite salty, but not too much you can’t handle. We finished everything and were too full for three people haha. They gave us more duck than noodle, which is what makes it so worth the price! My parents ended up getting iced water, and I got the mixed fruit tapioca. It tasted like nothing I ever tasted. A lot of sweet coconut milk, plenty of tapioca, and different fruits inside. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a good first experience. I’m glad to say Phoenix was one.

First time here last night. Super yummy food and desserts! Do not leave here without trying the«mixed fruit tapioca» drink. It’s amazing. Our table tried a variety of dishes and all were delicious. The chopped green beans with pork, the black bean fish with bok choy, the chicken lettuce wraps, the honey walnut shrimp, orange chicken & the cold shredded chicken. Take the fresh mango wrapped in mochi to go, if you can’t possibly eat another bite while there… Glad this location popped up in OC. The service is friendly and attentive. I’m definitely a fan and will be back…

Went back here again yesterday, it was great since there were not many people so I did not have to wait like last time. The mixed fruit tapioca drink is amazing and I highly recommend that drink to everyone. It reminded me of a tapioca drink I would get with my grandma in Chinatown back in Boston. It is not too sweet and the price was good. The congee was surprisingly flavorful as well, which was what I was craving. Service is still so-so but there not rude, there okay!

I was beyond excited to discover they finally opened a Phoenix in Garden Grove! It did not disappoint! I don’t understand the negative reviews because the food was amazing, the store was cute and clean, and the portions were generous. The parking was weirdly designed lol. Service was lackluster and I had a hard time understanding the servers but seriously, hey welcome to Asian food places. I won’t go into the extras in this review because I came here for the food and it delivered. — Garlic chicken: Get it if you love garlic. The chicken was crisp and perfectly seasoned to showcase the garlic. I found myself scooping every last bit of garlic onto my wings. I crave this all the damn time and it’s horrible. If you are a fan of simple but done right, this is for you. — Fried rice(w/Chinese sausage and shrimp): the portion was generous. They put plenty of shrimp. The rice was different from what I’m used to, similar to Mediterranean rice and it was awesome! — Hong Kong flat noodles: Aka chow fun and it was great, plenty of beef and the flavor was there once again. It was a tad bit oily. — Egg puffs: your standard egg puffs, light and slightly sweet. Yummy. — Durian coconut rolls: I saved the best for last for sure and it was so amazing! If you like durian, you must get this. It was my favorite by far. I ordered another one for my parents. Summary: There was a flavor party in my mouth and I was super satisfied from start to finish. Don’t come here for the bells and whistles. Sorry I don’t have pictures, I devoured it too quickly for my own good.

They do steal. My friend and I went to this restaurant on the same day. Afterwards money was stolen from our bank accounts and transferred. We found out later and my bank concurs. Do not give your credit card for payment. The person who used the cards from this establishment is some how connected to the Apple store in Costa Mesa. Go at your own peril. We believe the culprit was an Asian young man, who took our order. Watch your bank account and credit card number… please.

The food here is good, not great but good 7⁄10. Like most Unilocalers said, The service and organization could be improved… Walked in and was confused if it was a sit down or order at the counter. Well for first timers like me if you’re planning to eat there, grab a menu at the counter, browse the menu, go to the counter, order and sit back down and they will bring you the food. They will not stop at your table(only to drop off food and drinks) so if you need something wave them down or go to the counter and ask. Onto the food, ordered a seafood udon($ 9) and their famous durian rolls($ 6). The udon was pretty good and big enough to share between 2 people. The seafood tasted pretty fresh and not rubbery(typically frozen or reheated if taste rubbery). The only thing is that it was a little too oily or greasy for my liking. The durian rolls were pretty good as well. You get 3 rolls for $ 6, a little pricey in my opinion but they are good. I would be back, but maybe as a last resort for late night cravings. I hope they get better with service!

Late night food! Sunday — Thursday they close at midnight Fridays & Saturdays they close at 1AM Last call for food is 30 mins before closing. Their fresh mixed fruit tapioca drink is refreshing! It’s not too sweet Their fresh mango & ruby red grapefruit over silken tofu dessert is very interesting. It’s light and not bold in flavor. You should give it a try to see for yourself! Their egg puff is just«ok.» I smells and looks better than it tastes. I would compare it to a over cooked pancake or undercooked waffle. Black sticky rice with durian and coconut jelly was my my favorite. It was lightly sweetened and the durian taste was very strong. The«coconut jelly» looked like pad-see-yeu? Noodles and tasted kind of rubbery

I don’t understand all the negative reviews… Had lunch on a Wed. around 1130. Parking lot was empty. We ordered: fried squid with seasoned salt(yummy & crispy), fish filet with black bean sauce(also very good), Buddha’s vegetables(big shiitake mushrooms, broccoli, fried tofu & green beans), Hong Kong style flat rice noodle(aka chow fun)-very tasty. Lychee iced tea & Thai iced tea to round out the meal. No desserts this time. The food was really good, wait staff was ok. Can’t wait to go back to try the other entrees.

I’ve only had dessert here so this review is for desserts and location. Desserts: I usually get the durian coconut mochi rolls(comes in a pack of 3) for $ 4.95. Pretty pricy but they are delicious for any durian lovers. On a hot day I like to enjoy their mixed fruit tapioca drink. It’s a light coconut milk drink with small tapioca balls and bits of fruits(mango, cantaloupe and watermelon). Very refreshing on a hot day. The drink itself is not too sweet and is well complimented with the bits of fruits. I also enjoy their egg puff pastry($ 4.50). Light and crispy on the outside, nice and fluffy on the inside. Light sweetness so I don’t get sick of it too quickly. I get these to go since they make a great snack anytime. Location: The restaurant sits on a small, private lot right next to ARCO gas station. Parking is limited with maybe 10 spaces. The restaurant is pretty roomy inside with 10 – 15 tables and has a clean, modern design. I’m giving it a 3 out of 5 because service can be slow sometimes and some of the food seems over-priced to me. Overall, they have pretty good desserts here, so it’s definitely worth a try!

Coconut noodles — yummy, refreshing, and very fun to eat. Amount is good for two ppl to share Mango coconut rolls — addictive, if you don’t like to share like me, its better to buy separate packs of 3 hehe. To be honest, I prefer the rolls in the San Gabriel location more because the coconut wrap is drier. In this location, the wrap is wetter and more sticky/gooey. Some ppl either like that or they don’t… Durian coconut rolls — hate the smell, but according to my mom who loves durian its delicious and her fave

Was excited about a Phoenix in Orange County. No more driving to Roland Heights for durian dessert! Our family had dinner on this Friday night at around 7:30p. No wait. Our server was attentive and gave us menu promptly. Décor: clean and modern. This place has been opened for about 9 months now. Food: salt and pepper chicken wings– the highlight for me– crispy on the outside, juicy inside. Great favor. Curry fish ball– does not taste like the ‘street food’ curry fish ball. Tasted more like Indian curry to me. Kinda odd. The pickled veg with pork– looked weird, tasted ok. Small portion for the price. The order dishes were just ok. Forgettable. The fried rice portion was generous. Dessert: parents loved the pudding. I had the durian black sticky rice. Love durian and love sticky rice, but the two together didn’t wow me. The durian tasted like frozen durian paste. I would stick with the durian roll next time. Don’t bother getting the Hong Kong style milk tea. Small cup. $ 3.50. Weak tea. Too much sugar. What was really odd was that they pulled and parked a dirty dishes cart next to our table, like touching our table. And we were still eating! That was successful in getting us to leave ASAP.

I haven’t ordered any entrees or main dishes here. I usually go here for the dessert so this review is mainly for the dessert. Mixed fruit tapioca. This drink was mediocre. It made me tasted like half and half with coconut milk and a variety of jelly. For the price I did not think this drink was worth it. 3⁄5 Flan. This one was in the midst of a sea of black jelly. Aesthetically I thought the dessert looked interesting. The taste however was lacking. If you have never tasted flan, you might find this good, but I have high expectations of flan so I found this dish very dissatisfying. 2⁄5 Sweet rice with mango. I found it interesting that this place had black rice instead of white rice. The dessert came with jelly, rice, mango, and coconut milk. Surprisingly, this dessert is not sweet like I had imagined. First I was a little surprised, but I actually liked that it was not too sweet. However, I would give it a 3⁄5 at most because it was kind of bland. Durian Roll. The only reason why I would ever come back to this place is for the durian roll. I know that durian is a very specific taste so if you like durian I would highly suggest you try this. The price is 5 to 6 dollars for three small sized rolls, but I would not mind paying this price because there’s nowhere else that sells anything like this. It is basically durian wrapped with mochi and sprinkled with coconut shaving, but I’ve never been so happy eating a dessert before. 5⁄5 Honestly I would probably come back here again for the durian rolls. They are so bomb. Tip: If you’re just getting dessert you should do to go or else they will seat you and give you plates and utensils. Also, servers here seem to be very unfriendly. I am sure they are nice people but they should learn how to smile once in awhile.

Thank the food gods for opening up a location in GG! I no longer have to hop on the 5 to get my Phoenix fix. I’m not Taiwanese and can’t compare Phoenix to «authentic» cuisine, but I’d say this place is pretty dang good. Black sticky rice with young coconut: MYFAV. This is the perfect dessert for a chilly evening. Silky tofu with mango: Silky tofu with condensed milk and topped with mango bits. Great for a more refreshing option on a nice day. The mango bits can be a hit or a miss though. Prime beef/bbq rice combo? I forget what it was but it was good! Tender pieces of meet flavored with a korean bbq sauce. String beans: This wasn’t to die for, but I felt like I needed some veges in my system. Buttery and garlicy seasoning with some spiciness. Durian rolls: Durian isn’t my cup of tea, but I hear these are pretty tasty from my durian-loving parentals. Hong Kong milk tea: Definitely has a unique punch to it. I feel like the tea is more steamed than most places so you can definitely taste it. It tasted like they miiiight have used soy milk or something too.

I heard about the yummy mochi-like durian rolls at this café so came by to get some. We ordered: 1) Hainan chicken $ 7.50 — just mediocre, flavor of the sauce just didn’t jive with us. Would recommend you get this elsewhere :) 2) Durian rolls $ 5.35 — delicious & definitely a must buy if you are interested in durian! I’d come back just for this next time & nothing else haha

I’ve been here twice now and the only thing I liked were the coconut mango rolls! They don’t look that appealing but they’re actually really good. The coconut tastes great with the mango and is surprising not too sweet as a topping. It seems like a popular dessert here because they have a bunch of them on display in to go boxes. If you like durian, that version is also available. Service was okay– the guy that helped us was nodding when we asked for stuff, but it seemed like he didn’t understand, so we had to keep asking for water, etc. We even forgot out credit card when we left, but luckily he found us in the parking lot to give it back.

I haven’t been to a Phoenix in like 2 years since I don’t go up to the Rowland Heights area that often anymore. So I was super excited to have one open up in my area! Finally had the time to go. This place took over a sushi place and parking sucks. There’s a couple parking spots in the back and I have no idea where people could park if there’s no more spots left. My sister and I came during the night so parking was easy to find. They have a small dessert display case near the register and some drinks on the left when you walk in. What we got: Mini Egg Tarts($ 4.25): you get 6 mini egg tarts. Good amount of custard, but it’s not as good as when you get it fresh from like a dim sum place. Egg Puff($ 4.50): excited to try this here since I’ve had it at the night market around here. I wasn’t as impressed. It’s not hollow inside by the way! It takes awhile for them to make this. Little cousin enjoyed it since it was puffy and tasted like a vanilla cake? Mixed Fruit Tapioca($ 4): so this was why I came here! I was excited to try it again since the first time I’ve had it I fell in love with it. It wasn’t as sweet as I remembered it though. Had a good amount of different fruit bits like watermelon, mango, honeydew, and other fruits. I was so sad that it didn’t taste as good as I remembered it… it is a pretty heavy drink so I couldn’t even finish the whole thing by myself anymore. Service: There was maybe like 3 other parties in there while my sister and I were there? The customers didn’t seem too happy though since the workers were taking forever with everything. My sister and I got everything to go though so everything went well for us.

Overall: I’m wary of restaurants with an extensive menu, but Phoenix has been doing well across the board(so far). It’s not the best, but they do a decent job with so many different food items and it’s a decent price. The servers are nice too! Food: 4 Seafood Lo Mien: The portion is generous with lots of seafood(fish filet, baby octopus, large shrimps). The noodles are a little too soft for me, but it’s not the worst. The seasoning is perfectly balanced. Pork and 1000 Year Old Egg Porridge: I prefer my porridge thicker and smoother, but I’ve come to realize that Chinese people generally like their porridge this way. I wish there was more egg, but there’s lots of pork! Braised Tofu and Seafood: The tofu tasted like it was left for too long in a fryer with old oil, but the seasoning was perfect and the seafood was well cooked. Phoenix Boneless Chicken: I highly recommend this dish. It’s similar to Hainan Chicken. They use the same flavorful rice, but there’s no bones and the chicken is seasoned with a soy sauce like sauce. It comes with pickles. Lychee Tea with Lychee Jello: I also recommend this drink. I was afraid that it would be too sweet, sort of like lychee from a can sweet, but they balanced it well so you get the bitterness of the tea and just a hint of lychee sweetness. Durian Coconut Roll: For those who don’t like durian, this is a good way to introduce them. The smell isn’t completely masked by the coconut flakes but the coconut does make the smell less strong for those who don’t like it. The creamy soft texture which is a turn off for others becomes bearable when used as a sort of filling for the chewy roll it’s wrapped in. It’s not too sweet with a good mix of textures! Service: 4 Generally, there’s someone on the waitstaff who is fluent in English. Otherwise, the other servers do an okay job of communicating, even if their English is limited. There’s a large staff for a fairly small restaurant, so someone is bound to be watching the floor for diners who need something. They’re fairly polite and they do their best to listen on your requests, unlike other restaurants who have a dismissive«leave if you don’t like it» attitude. Ambiance: 4.5 The restaurant is well lit and clean. The tables aren’t shoved together to maximize diner capacity and cool inside. They display a lot of their sweets and drinks in glass display cases so you get a chance to see what you might be ordering and I like that. The parking is small. I’ve never had a problem because I’ve never come during a time when its packed but I expect parking can become a problem really quickly if they get a little busy.
