COMGA. Can’t go wrong with this! Best item on the menu for sure. COMTOM. The original recipe was definitely better with prawns because it didn’t taste so dry. I’m glad the egg was the same except they use very little now. HUUTIEUNAMVANG. Not the best because some their meats didn’t taste top notch, but I didn’t expect too much.

This review is purely based off the food! The specialty Com Ga was delicious as well as the Com Bo. The portions are perfect, especially for the price. The prices are very reasonable as it already it is so I wouldn’t expect it to still be $ 1.99. This location is a lot better compared to the one on Edinger which recently closed down. It’s been here for a long time, so I would cut them some slack on the service. Regardless of that, the servers were kind. Yes, it is obvious that is out-dated, but really, it’s $ 6 bucks, who are you to complain?

Ăn nào! Half fried cornish game hen, brown rice with a sunny side egg on top, pickled cabbage, the finale is this nice dipping sauce… You can’t go wrong here, it may not $ 1.99 anymore, but you’ll get plenty of bang for ur buck here, & no I’m not speaking of the local smut shop you’ll find next door either. Lol Visit this place when you’re near by, you can’t go wrong here, cheers.

All entrees are currently $ 4.50-$ 5.75. I’m pretty sure they’ll hike up the prices sometime again next year. Can y’all just rename the 3 «Nha Hang $ 1.99» restaurants to «Crack Sauce Restaurant» or something else? Lol

I have been coming here the last 15 yrs. If I remember correctly, price for the cornish hen was 2.75 dollars. It’s now 5.75 I think. Plus side it comes with a fried egg now. It’s still the top three places to get Cornish hen in OC. The chicken, sauce and rice are delicious… most times. once in a while the chicken is overcooked… but that generally doesn’t happen often. I think the prices are fair, I just really wish that at least one item would be 1.99. I’m okay with it just being a drink at 1.99 however there is not one item on the menu that is 1.99. I’m just a little particular, if the restaurant is called Restaurant $ 1.99 then there should be at least one item with that price. However there is not. Just one item… instead if 2.25 for a lemon soda or something… make it 1.99

Quick: $ 1.99 still delivers affordable meals and that iconic cornish hen dish, though its now $ 6, it’s still delicious! through Aug, they have a daily special dish that is only $ 2.49! That’s a steal. Pros: Food still as good as it was ten years ago. $ 2.49 daily dish specials! Cons: Not the cheap eats it once was Yay! $ 5.75 for that Cornish hen man, with that secret dip sauce and red rice. Welcome to food heaven. Anyone that has told you to come here, has probably been coming to this chain for over a decade. While prices have risen, the current price is reasonable for your meal. Cornish hen, crispy skin, dry delicious white meat with the sauce dip. The only thing I never care for are the«greens». That cabbage side does not look appetizing at all! But a half hen is a pretty good portion. And it’s served with a fried egg! The steak is not bad either, but don’t expect anything high class here. It’s a thin, well done steak. Chewy, kinda tough but you know, it just works for what it is. Also $ 6. I’ve never eaten anything else here. I don’t bother, hen is where it’s at. But with the $ 2.49 special, I tried Bun Rieu. It was acceptable on taste and stellar on value! Tip! For your steak, mix a squeeze of lime, dashes of soy sauce and siracha to taste and dip that meat. Yum!

Food is cheap. Decent price for the portion. ½ fried chicken/hen with egg over rice for 3.99. Can’t complain abt that. Chicken is a lil plain dry but dip it with the sauce then it’ll taste a lil better.

It’s time for a name change so I’ve uploaded my proposal lol. Just so you know, do not believe the sign. Even soda was more than $ 1.99. I ordered the fried ½ chicken and a glass of water. They brought out a bottle of water and charge me $ 1. If I order the house soup that usually comes with Vietnamese rice dishes it would have been another $ 1.50. If you add all that up: $ 5.75(chicken and rice) + $ 1.50(soup) + $ 1(water) = $ 8.25! I thought this place is supposed to be cheap haha. I had a feeling it was going to be like this but I wanted to try it anyway. I find the chicken to be plain and very dry. It was not marinated or seasoned so it was just crispy, oily and tasteless. Nothing special about the dish but I must say, the chicken sauce really saved it. The chicken sauce was definitely the high light of the dish. My friend ordered the steak and it was thin and way over cooks. I guess that’s expected for a $ 4.95 steak dinner. Overall the place is cheap for a sit down restaurant but if you add all the items up… at that price I would rather go to Thanh De Nhat Com Tam.

Food was pretty good, especially for the prices! But giving it three stars because when I asked the server if there was refills on the tea, she indicated there was. But when I asked for a refill she then said there wasn’t. Kind of a bait and switch.

Better than the usual Viet cornish hen(com ga roti) meal because they include a fried egg. Huzzah. One thing I wish they gave more of is that black onion sauce — not enough to drown my rice and chicken in haha. Also, I recommend you poke holes in the box or take out of bag immediately when you get home if you do take-out like I did — the heat dries up the chicken and makes the skin rather soggy.

COMGA. Just order that. Obviously no longer $ 1.99 menu, but at $ 3.95, it’s still a steal! Cornish hen is deep fried to a nice golden crisp. And that sauce though… like CRACK! Spread some of the chunks(onions?) of the sauce onto your bed of tomato/red rice then leave the rest for dipping the chicken. YUMYUMYUM! Cash only, and I believe bottled water is like $ 1 or $ 1.50(no free tap water), so you’re better off ordering a drink off the menu if you don’t like water(me) lol

I don’t know what to say, back when everything was actually 1.99 this place was amazing. Then again, you can’t ask for that little nowadays. The only thing that’s actually worth getting here is the fried game hen and the steak. I’d pay 5 $ for those, but other than that don’t come here. Service is meh too

Restaurant cannot be call $ 1.99 anymore. But it is still good in a mom and pop dirty kind of way. Everyone always get the chicken rice plate. Oldie but goodie If you are a local«Bolsa» person.

This place is really cheap. If you want food that’s cheap and surprisingly good, this is the place. Ordered the Steak and Eggs as well as the BBQ pork dish. All were pretty good. Beware Cash Only, I mean come on if you are going to argue that, it’s only dollar bills you need to bring.

Went back on 12−11−13 and had the Ginger chicken with burnt crispy rice $ 3.75 along with a basic soup that was $ 1.00. My friend and I both got the same two things. The ginger sauce was really good. The crispy rice was in a big mound, slightly charred, and I liked it better than regular rice. They gave another giant rice and I suppose it came with the soup. Or maybe it was the Viet special add-on, cause my friend is Vietnamese(lol). I like mixing the plum sauce with the spicy citrus sauce for the rice. I wasn’t very hungry so I couldn’t eat all of my food, which was a lot. Just went to chat with my friend. But at the low, low prices, you might as well eat, too. Left full and happy ;-) Don’t recall ever seeing another western person in there, just me. [I think they eat across the street at the Carl’s Junior and pay more money for fat and cholesterol.] Not that I feel out of place or anything. No-one seems to care one way or the other. People just come here for their cheap Viet fast food fix. I’ve been to the other Nha Hang on Beach and Westminster. But that one is big and can get loud. I like this one better.

The restaurant at this location is a lot larger than the usual one I go to on Beach & Westminster. The tables are actually pretty clean and there is a nice working flatscreen t.v. The pricing is about the same as the other location(only some items are at 1.99), BUT the chicken here seems a bit bigger. Service was fast also and chicken was juicy. Again, the sauce with the chicken is like crack, can’t get enough of it! It was a great place to grab a bite while waiting for our dog stuff to finish washing at the laundromat next door.

$ 1.99, are you out of your mind? Haha, anyone remember that old Denny’s grand slam slogan? It seems that there are only 2 items left on their menu now that cost $ 1.99 and those are the combination crispy fried egg noodle and the combination steam rice. I actually order the $ 1.99 crispy fried egg noodles as a side and I usually stick to their specialty which is the ½ cornish game hen with rice for just under $ 4. I’ve grown to like the sauce that comes with it, which I thought was nasty at first. The only other item I’ve ordered between the two locations I’ve been to are the large prawns with rice which I was pretty disappointed with. However, I wouldn’t rule out coming here and trying their chao long(porridge), beef steak, and porkchop. Maybe even their hu tieu or mi noodle soups if I’m feeling over-adventurous. I guess since everything is so cheap, if you strike out with one order, you can order something else… Their service is hilarious. One of my coworkers wanted to ask for something in English and started to say something to the male server. He immediately placed his finger to his lips and shushed my coworker trying to tell him that he can’t understand English, so STFU. That was just hilarious, haha! Like their other locations, there’s no free water but it seems they don’t want you to bring your own drink either. There is a no outside drinks allowed sign, but I don’t think they really enforce it. I just get their chrysanthemum iced tea which is a $ 1.

I’ve probably been coming here since I was born! My family usually orders over the phone and they always say it will be ready in 15 minutes. What I’ve tried: Com Ga($ 4): ½ cornish hen, pickled cabbage and jalapenos, red rice, and the chicken dipping sauce. I feel like they don’t give me enough of the chicken sauce. I like to dip everything in it! The chicken is nice and crispy on the outside and pretty moist on the inside. Pickled cabbage is well… pickled cabbage, it has a tangy taste to it, but not that spicy with the jalapenos with it. They give you a lot of rice whenever I order it to go. I never finish it, but I like to soak my rice in the chicken sauce too so I wish they would give us more. Com Tam Suon Trung Chien($ 3.50): broken rice with BBQ pork and egg. I like to cut up the pork chop, break the egg, mix it all up with the rice and fish sauce. I get this dish more than I do the chicken. Service: To go service is a lot faster than sitting in a restaurant and I feel like they give you more.
