All the points for the bossam! Ok ok, the other stuff we got was pretty tasty too but the bossam was bomb. It was a big ticket item but it was totally worth the dollars. Hubby, brother and I walked in last Friday evening, around 8:20-ish.(Man, this place is hard to find! Thanks, Unilocaler tip!). We were a little taken aback that it was so empty, with only two other tables occupied… one with 4 Korean dudes and one with a lady dining alone w/her ipad. Ok… We were quickly seated and literally, within, 3 minutes, a lady came over to take our order. Uh… can we get a few more minutes? She made some sort of expression(not exactly a smile or frown, couldn’t tell but it was a little daunting) and walked away. After a few more minutes, we finally got our shit together and over-ordered as we tend to do when we visit somewhere first time. Bossam, gamjatang(pork bones), hamul pajeon(seafood pancake) and yukaejang(spicy beef and leek soup). Seriously, everything was delicious. I did stay away from the radish kimchee because it was fermented to the point you can feel the sting on your tongue. Brother ate a piece that was mushy already and just left it on his plate. The pork belly that came with the bossam was perfectly cooked. So good hubby wanted to go back the next evening just for that. The seafood pancake was good as was the sauce. However, I didn’t detect much seafood in it. Bad news is the yukaejang gave me… issues…how do I know? Oh… because I was the only one who ate it and therefore the only one with… issues…a short while later. And got… issues…again almost immediately when I had leftovers the following evening. Not going to lie, I was a little sad I couldn’t finish the leftovers because it was still really yummy. Even the mean-looking Korean lady warmed up to us later on in the evening, finding our competitive eating capabilities quite hilarious. So…radish and yukaejang issues bust this one down to three stars. I would totally come back and give it another go(definitely for the bossam). If all works out, I’ll update my rating!

1) Their kimchi is so good! :) 2) Yukgaejang is surprisingly delicious. I normally avoid eating this beef soup because of how greasy it usually is(and it never satisfies my taste buds); but Jang Mo Jip’s tastes just right. I’ll definitely be coming back for this. 3) Dogani tang. I’ve had better, but it’s not bad either.

really good pork and beef. the place is spacious my friends loved it here. definitely would come back and try the meat dishes. we had the lunch combo which was a good price for soup rice and spicy pork or the bulgolgi beef. they give you this sweet rice in water afterward and it was delicious. it was refreshing after all the spicy and meats.

Best korean food I’ve had in a while! Not fancy but has the authentic taste of korean food. My husband ordered yukkaejang. It usually has an oily taste but it was actually very clean and refreshing than other places. I had dolsot bibimbap. It had a lot of crunchy vegetables and the rice was perfect. We also ordered a side of dweji bulgogi and it was so good! If I’m ever in the area again I’ll Def be back!

In so many years I’ve been in and out of Garden Grove and I never knew of this hidden gem. Truly a hidden gem, you really wouldn’t ever find it if it weren’t by word of mouth and Unilocal. It’s a place run by older Korean woman and the ban chan is made in house. They are so good at making their kim chi, they sell it online around the world! We ordered the sul lung tang and the spicy octopus, very good with rice. The sul lung tang, isn’t the best in the neighborhood, but nevertheless, they do a really good job. This is Korean’s version of phở or hangover soup! You can’t go wrong with it. The broth was cooked superbly, a nice beefy taste. As for the main showstopper, I’m a bit bias because I love the spicy octopus, it’s an acquired taste. Full of flavor, a nice rounded amount of spice, but not to overpowering. An overall party for the taste buds! Located near an alano club, down an alley, don’t let the location scare you away. Fast friendly service, you’re going to like it a lot.

Wow what a gem for authentic Korean food while staying at the Disneyland area. We were so tired of the crappy food in the Disneyland Resort area that we wanted to venture out but not too far. After checking the other Unilocal reviews, wanted to give this place a try. We are so glad we did. Yes provided that the English capabilities of the ladies working there ain’t too great, but who gives a sh-t. You are there for the good food right? You will get the low down authentic stuff here. We over-ordered because we weren’t used to the big portions but then we were able to sample a lot of different dishes. The banchan was definitely fresh. The price for the same meal back in the San Francisco Bay Area would have been double the cost. So all I have is praise. Good food, good prices, nice people who don’t know a lot of English. Sounds like awesome to me. The ladies treated us nice even though we didn’t know a word of Korean other than knowing how to say thank you. This place opens late too so that’s convenient. Would definitely come here again when we visit Disneyland in the future. Enjoy!

my goodness. my korean boyfriend introduced me to this place because his parents thought it was good. and it was SOO good, i kept on coming back! We always go here for their sullungtang and fresh kimchi(their kimchi is ALWAYS fresh & good that sometimes I asked if I can buy their kimchi to-go). they give generous portions and their price was so reasonable! The service was a bit slow. but that’s okay, theres only 1 cook and 1 server i believe. and they seemed like very hard working korean ladies so don’t forget to tip! :)

I don’t get why people complain so much about service. This is an OG Korean restaurant… some Unilocalers demand royalty status as if their Eliteness deifies them into some godhood… allow me to stoke the profane heathen fire and say nyet. This place has lukewarm customer service, and I’ve been coming to them for YEARS. YEARS. Why? Because the food is consistent, and both me and my gf like the place. It does cater to older Korean folk but its smack dab in GG Koreatown. To me, their kimchi is one of the best in this neck of the woods, and believe me, kimchi in its undiluted form is an acquired taste. However, I love Korean food, and after years of coming here as a customer, they have always successfully made me come back as a customer, partially because of the food but more so for the passive aggressive«friendly» interactions with the servers and owner.

I’ve had a tons of sul lung tang in my US life and I can say this one is the worst! Actually I saw a lot of sul lung tang name card in front of this restaurant, so I ordered it even though I also wanted to choose other food!!! Oh my god… It was disaster! I felt something wrong with Sul lung tang at first because it was no smell at all. And I tried to taste it… It was as same as just boiled water and meat. No taste. I also added salt but it was like just salt and hot water. I’ve never eaten this kind of soup. I recommend you to go there for other food. At least it’s better to avoid sul lung tang.

Came here because Morangak BBQ had a 30 – 40 minute wait for dinner. My friend said her parents go there all the time. We ordered the seafood pancake, the Duk Mandoo Guk, and Dol Sot Bibimbap. The pancake was delicious! It was slightly crispy and what made it really good was the sauce. The sauce was like a light, sweet soy sauce. I don’t think I’ve ever had sauce quite like this with my seafood pancake before but all places should serve it! The Duk Mandoo Guk was also large and hearty, though it didn’t come with a lot of Mandoo. Also, I don’t think the Mandoo was homemade but more the frozen variety. I wasn’t fond of the Dol Sot Bibimbap. It didn’t have any meat at all. I’m not sure if the menu stipulated it came with meat, but usually it does. At least the rice got crunchy at the end. Also, their kimchee banchan is really good. They give you scissors to cut it because the kimchee is in long strips. Thumbs up! Service is kind if spotty, though. We had to ask three times for ice water.

4 – 4.5 stars. Very solid Korean joint. Don’t go here for KBBQ– you’ll look like an idiot but hey, feel free to impress yourself. The two of us ordered: 1) Sullungtang– solid. No comments necessary. 2) Pork belly with stewed kimchi. This smells and looks disgusting(to the unacquainted) and may put Aunt Sally’s panties in a knot but this was unequivocally delicious, without reservation. It comes with tofu on the side as well as boiled cabbage so you can wrap this shit. This was a party in my mouth and believe me, I’ve had some parties in my largest northern most orifice. The service? It’s a hole-in-the-wall Korean joint in an old strip mall. This ain’t Melisse so shut up, sit down, and slurp away.

I was craving seoulleongtang because it’s been cold lately, and nothing beats delicious warm food that fills not only your stomach but also warms you right up! My bf and I came here with friends and took advantage of some of their specials of the day. It sucks that their specials are only in Korean, but good thing I can read it!(I’m Chinese). My bf ordered the galbi tang special(it’s not on the menu) and I ordered seoulleongtang. Overall, the ox bone broth had that nice milky look to it and the brisket and noodles tasted great. The seoulleongtang comes out bland, so you can add as much green onions and sea salt to your liking. The galbi tang meat was also delicious as it falls easily off the bone! The galbi tang broth was also flavorful. Service is kind of slow, but the banchan is good. The kimchi was really delicious! But other than that, if you are craving for seoulleongtang or galbi tang, definitely check this place out! =)

This place serves great hearty korean food. We came here on a cold night craving for some sullungtang and it was delicious. When we came, the wait wasn’t too bad. There were plenty of tables and once we were seated they served us warm barley tea. My only gripe was they didn’t serve us the banchan right away. Rather they serve you the banchan the same time as your main dishes. The banchans here are very fresh and flavorful. The dishes vary each time you go but they always serve you 4. Usually they give you daikon, cabbage, some clear glass noodles, bean sprouts and fish cake. As for the sullungtang, for $ 7 you get a steaming pot of heavenly goodness. The broth was flavorful and the brisket pieces were delicious. Throw in some salt and green onions and you got the remedy for a cold. Furthermore, once you’re done you get a cold cup of sweet rice. Yum! Overall, the service was decent and prices were great. Definitely my go-to korean spot for food that is not soondubu or kbbq!

Large variety of food. I got a to-go order and was disappointed because they don’t give any other banchan(side dishes) aside from kimchi/radish.

I was quite disappointed in Jang Mo Jip. Maybe I made the mistake of not ordering seolleoung tang or any kind of soup recommended by my YFs? We walked in for lunch on a Friday. The place was empty, looked clean, but had an unmistakable weird smell. I could not put my finger on it. Service was slow. Not cool for a quick work lunch. That already gets my co-worker annoyed. He was starving, and wanted his food quick! I am not an expert on Korean food. The condiments on the table fascinated me. Who needs that much onions and salt? The banchan took a awhile to arrive, despite the place being empty. Everything was just alright. I prefer The Pine’s side dishes during their lunch specials. I ordered a regular bibimbap for $ 7.99, and requested chili paste on the side. Their lunch combos start at $ 9.99, and I could not bring myself to buy something pricier that I might not be able to eat due to being too spicy. The bibimbap was just alright. Though the sauteed meat was not too tough, it was not flavorful either. I guess this is where the chili paste, or onions and salt come into play. My co-worker had the Ttukbaegi Bulgogi, which looked and sounded good, based on the menu description. That was about it. He only ate it because he was hungry, and did not finish it. He complained about the meat being tough and gritty(he kept chewing then spitting it out), and the soup being bland. They gave us free dessert, which was some kind of sweet, watery, rice soup. We appreciated the gesture, but it wasn’t very good. We took a few spoonfuls, and that was it. Though my food was edible enough, I found this place a waste of our time. My co-worker demanded to take control of the next lunch out to make up for this mess. I felt bad for him, and his terrible lunch, but I call the shots around here now. The last time he made decisions regarding lunch, we ate at the same place for 2 years. I finally went postal and demanded control of Friday lunches. Though an embarrassing mistake, I told him, ‘this is how you learn’. I’ll do better next time. No more Jang Mo Jip for us.

I haven’t had sullungtang and gamjatang in a long time, so using my handy dandy Unilocal app I searched for«Korean food» and this place popped up. Glad I drove out here to try the two as both dishes were tasty and reasonably priced. The prices advertised on Unilocal are old… sullungtang is $ 7 and the the kamjatang is $ 10. The people who work here speak primarily Korean, so if you are any sort of Asian, they’ll probably speak to you in Korean. My friend and I ordered both in English but the lady was speaking to us in Korean, despite us looking confused. The banchan here are really tasty, but there were only 3 — daikon kimchi, cucumber kimchi, and regular napa cabbage kimchi — all but the daikon kimchi were pretty spicy. I can usually tolerate spice, but I had to wash down the spice of these two kimchis with barley tea. First off the sullungtang is bland if you don’t add salt and green onion(I had the mistake of not adding salt when I first had it many years ago). The sullungtang’s broth was creamy and hearty, just like sullungtang is supposed to be. Remember to taste test, because I couldn’t taste the salt at the top of the bowl… the salt settled to the bottom so my soup was very salty as I made my way to the bottom of the the soup bowl. The kamjatang was very flavorful and the meat that fell of the pork bones was tender and tasty. Not as oily/fatty as other places where I’ve had kamjatang so definitely a plus. And to top it off, Jang Mo Jip gives you some shikhye at the end so it gives any Korean meal a nice finish. Parking is ample, seeing as the Han-Am market is now closed. So definitely a plus not having to battle it out with other for parking. Overall, this place gets a solid 4 stars. Kamsahamnida!

This place is bit hard to find. Keep on driving to the back of the strip mall and it will be on your right hand side. The name means«Mother-In-Law’s House». I am not sure of the significance, but I didn’t see any girls that I made me want to meet their mother — LOL! It was a cold day and I ordered #7 — The yukgaejang($ 7.95 — spicy soup w/beef brisket, onion, bean sprouts, soaked fernbrake {kosari}, celery, garlic, hot pepper flakes, sesame oil, vegetable oil, salt, soy sauce, and black pepper. My friend ordered the bulgogi(lunch portion — $ 9.95). The bulgogi included three types of banchan — Kimchee, pickled radish and bean sprouts. The bulgogi also came with lettuce wraps and a bowl of soondubu(tofu w/beef broth soup). The yukgaejang was a nice change of pace compared to K-BBQ. It was cold and rainy the day we came. The portion was huge, the broth was spicy enough that it put a little bit of sweat on my brow and the vegetables were super fresh: 4 Stars. The bulgogi was garden variety — nothing special. However, the banchan and soondubu were pretty good compared to other Korean restaurants in the area. The lettuce was really fresh, the radishes and bean sprouts were nice and crunchy and the kimchee was the best I have had in the area. I understand customers come here just to buy kimchee. Lastly, my friend said the soondubu had had a nice broth and the vegetables were very fresh: 3.5 Stars overall. The service and ambiance were OK. We were the only non-Koreans in the place(my friend is Taiwanese). The servers were not overly friendly, and they took forever to refill our tea and give us some H2O(even after we pressed the button on the table several times), but otherwise they were efficient. I saw very few non-FOBs(besides my friend — LOL), which means this place is legit amongst Koreans! 3 Stars for service and ambiance. Overall 3.5 Stars rounded up to 4 Stars. I would come back to this place in a heartbeat. The restaurant has been is business for over 20 years. In addition, they serve reasonably priced, hearty soul food that Koreans and non-Koreans alike would enjoy. Just remember, you don’t ask for your check. Go to the front and let them know your table number when you check out.
