First time here. This restaurant is very traditional and they specialize in traditional seafood soups. We really enjoyed everything that we had. Seafood soup, galbi, daeji bulgogi and grilled fish. Soju bottles were only $ 7.99. The service was friendly also. We will definitely come back.

Bad manner, I order ONE fish soup with me and my wife, $ 20.00 soup for one. I order one not because of money, because it was more than enough for two of us, we are retired old couple, we do order two items sometime and take leftover food home. But many time those leftover item goes trash after a week. Serving lady seems a family member of owner, she didn’t like my order, she say how about her? I reply one os more than enough. She ask to cook in the kitchen ‘Mom, can you make a fishsoup?’ Implied that asking do you have enough fish to make fishsoup. Then cook may be asking how many. I couldn’t hear what cook says. But serving lady indicate ‘One’ with her fingler. I saw this. Than she say, we can not make a fishsoup. If cook asking how mamy, that means they can make at least One or more. They just don’t want serve to people who slipt, they wany the same number of order as number of customer. I haven’t seen any restaurant refuses split order, many charges fee for split which is a OK. I would understand if it was a prime time of their business, but it was 3:00PM, Only 3 customers were there. It was very Rude, Insulting. I will never ever go back. Although, Fishsoup is good, I Am wondering what they are use, MSG?

The best fish soup I’ve ever had. I’m a soup person, I like all kinds of good soup, and have had a lot of good soup. But the soup here is fresh tasting, deep in flavor yet not fishy. I wish I still lived close by so I can go all the time, but now I can only make it when I go down to LA. Still so good though.

This is probably one of the best hidden gems in OC. It’s a small and unassuming, run by the entire family, but the dishes are exceptional. they get the fish fresh from new port and some days they will not serve certain dishes if the catches aren’t to their standard. side dishes are always fresh and tasty and their fish dishes(some of which are even hard to find at normal korean restaurants due to the effort it takes to make them right) are the best I’ve tried. that said, the other dishes are highly recommended as well. this is a go to place for my mom who’s from jeon-ju(the food capital of korea).

Went with my family last night for dinner. We’re pretty picky eaters when it comes to Korean food, but this place was highly recommended by my aunt and dad. We shared the kimchi jjigae(stew), spicy pork bulgogi, and grilled fish. Very, very tasty. We asked for no MSG(I have an MSG sensitivity) and from our choices, the only dish that usually has MSG was the kimchi jjigae. Everyone agreed that it was stellar; it had slices of pork belly and enoki mushrooms in it and was seasoned perfectly. We are actually going back for lunch today!

This small, unassuming place in an equally small, unassuming plaza is a hidden gem. I came here the other day with my parents and for the three of us, we ordered two-people’s serving of fish stew(Seo Dol Jjigae) for around $ 30. The stew itself comes with chunks of fish(rock cod, I believe), tofu, and an assortment of vegetables, and is really flavorful. Although their assortment of side dishes isn’t as varied as other places, they were all good. Also, they were happy to replace them when we needed more(we asked for 2 rounds of refills too). Overall, especially for the price, I’d definitely say this place is worth a visit. Food is quality, delicious, and reasonably priced.

I finally figured out the name of their amazing fish soup. It’s called Seodol Jjigae. I’ve come to frequent this place, but I only come here with family because it’s very Korean. I haven’t seen a non-Korean ever walk into this place. I guess that’s expected since they don’t really specialize in KBBQ or noodles like most Korean restaurants in the area. They specialize in fish. I love the small fish appetizers that BCD and Koba give out with their soon dubu. Though it’s usually served soggy and cold. They serve the same fish here, but a gigantic version of it. It is called Joki Gui. The quality of the fish is great and it’s fried perfectly crispy. I usually order this and the Seodol Jjigae, which has the most flavorful broth ever. I love saturating my rice in this stuff. It’s a little pricey, but the quality of the fish is very good and it shows in the taste. We’ve actually asked them how they make their soup so good and they said that the difference is because they buy fresh fish off the boats instead of using frozen fish. It apparently retains the fat(and all the flavors that come with it) a lot better. I have always gotten impeccable service here since we are regulars.

2 words… FISHSOUP on a cold day what can hit the spot… even better then PHO?(yeah i said that) haha its a nice boiling pot of fresh fish soup. you get a small array of side dishes and if you order soju they give you a side of pork belly on the house, also they give you a nice portion of raw crab to enjoy. soon your boiling pot of soup hits the table and they put it ontop of a make shift stove…(you know the one with the butane gas) so that it stays nice and hot for your entire meal. along with the soup the family ordered a stamed crab. it was a big nice crab steamed to perfection and broken in places so it would be slighter easier to handle. nice hot meal and without the hassle of having to wash all that fish stink away from your pots and pans at home! me likey!

Food is pretty much standard here. Nothing really special or stands out! I do like their tea… it has that burnt rice taste… oh sooo good! We ordered the budaejiggae and shared it amongst 4 people, since we weren’t all that hungry, eating some Mexican food a hour earlier at the Unilocal Elite Holiday Bash. It was more than enough food. It has all the components, hot dogs, spam, and rice cakes. I wish it had a little more kick to it(not the spicy kick, but more of the sharp taste to it). The panchan wasn’t all that appealing. 8 plates, nothing was all that great. Good company though, makes the food taste better!

Came here for a late night 2nd dinner with 5 friends. None of us were all that hungry because we had filled up on some Mexican food a few hours earlier. Still… nothing like good ol’ Korean style cooking to get our tummies ready and willing. Whoa — this place has a huuuge menu! Lot’s to choose from. Hyang Chon offers a bunch of traditional Korean stews and casseroles. I’m so glad I found another Korean restaurant in GG that served a massive variety of hearty stews — just in time for the chilly winter weather! First came the 8 plates of panchan(side dishes) — they were all pretty standard, with nothing really standing out flavorwise. Then between the 5 of us, we shared one order of Budae chigae($ 23) — it’s a Korean stew that comes in a big pot on a burner — it’s a spicy soup base with sliced hot dogs and spam, ramen noodles, and some veggies mixed together. Korean history calls this«army stew» because during the Korean war, soldiers would just gather whatever they had and throw it together, so that’s where Budae chigae originated from. Surprisingly, one order of budae chigae was enough to feed all 5 of us — there was enough for us to each have a bowl filled to the top with ramen, spam, and hot dogs. The budae chigae here wasn’t bad at all, but I’ve had better. The stew had a good amount of spicy flavor and was chock full of meat and veggies. I only wish the soup base itself was thicker — it was a little bit on the watery side. The service here was pretty good here. The two waitresses serving us were really patient and nice, especially since we only ordered one dish for 5 people. Overall, this wasn’t a bad place and I wouldn’t mind coming again. It’s open late too — 2am… so if you have a late night craving you can always pop in here.

I was driving down Garden Grove Blvd at around 9:30pm in search of something spicy but not too heavy. I was heading towards Kaju Soon Tofu, when a bright OPEN sign caught my attention. GG has become quite deserted so any light emanating from a store peaks my curiosity. The place was empty so I was worried the quality would not be very good(i.e. turnover rate). Nevertheless, I was hungry and decided to order the Seo Dol Jjigae(I forget the name but it’s a red colored, meaty fish, with a texture and taste similar to a Chilean Sea Bass) and Eun Dae Gu Jorim(casserole/stewed codfish in sweet & spicy sauce). When my order came out I was pleasantly surprised with the presentation and quality. Their Seo Dol Jjigae filled with napa cabbage, tofu, squash, and onions had a clean yet deep flavor, which the waitress mentioned it was their house specialty. The Eun Dae Gu Jorim was fresh and managed a nice balance of sweetness and spice. I’m usually hesitant to order jorims because sometimes the fish is not fresh and they try to mask it with more sauce, which then covers the delicate flavors of the fish. While this style might not appeal to everyone, especially those who prefer the darker/stronger flavored sauce, it is a nice change up to an old dish. The owner of the restaurant was sitting at one of the tables, and it looked like his wife was the main cook. There were two waitresses who were really friendly and one seemed to speak english quite well. The restaurant is small with about 6 – 8 tables, depending on how they are arranged. Their lunch specials seem reasonably priced with various items such as BBQ meats and grilled fish and bean stew combos. However, this restaurant seems to specialize in seafood items, so that might be a better choice. Update: The restaurant’s name is Hyang Chon, but for some reason Unilocal(?) changed it to Go Hyang San Chon.
