I get my hair cut here and the service is wonderful. Super relaxing hair wash and you get to wear a special robe. The hairdressers are efficient and skilled :)

Since I have been coming here for almost 28 years, I decided to write a GREAT review for THE SWEETEST OWNER, Absolutely The Best Exquisite Stylist Ever! Sometimes in LA, I have been to the best stylists, but this Beauty Salon definitely takes the number #1 spot~~^^ Everyone here is always and I mean always Super Friendly and Nice. If you want the best hair work done, don’t miss out!

I’ve had my hair done here for years now: the digital perm by friend’s recommendation, and a cut on occasion. It’s in Koreatown and I don’t speak Korean, but I’ve explained the styles and shown pictures to Mina and she knows what’s generally popular and fashionable. She also remembers my preference at this point, which is fantastic.
It took me a couple times to figure out the full perm process, so let me share:
You go to the back closet and put on a spa robe
Get your hair washed, trimmed, keratin-​treated, dried, and then rolled up and heated
All of this takes 4 hours
Mina stays focused and busy throughout, so you can keep yourself entertained.
Bring a book, magazine, and a couple snack bars (I get hungry during the process)
Put your phone in the robe pocket if you want to have that on you too
And then you finish up and it’s anywhere from $ 150 – 200
Lasts 3 – 6 months and I love it every time.

After doing some research on perms, I decided to get a digital perm as it is supposed to be better for your hair especially if you have not dyed or treated it recently.
The 4 hour treatment was as follows:
*Put on a robe
*Quick wash
*Detailed haircut (included)
*Apply chemicals on hair, cover ears, wrap with sarang
*Wait/​dry under the machine (this was the longest step) so prepare some form of entertainment. They do have magazines
*Put hair in rollers that will then be connected to a digital machine (hence the name), more chemicals are applied. Surprisingly, this was a rather short period of time
*Take off rollers, wash, voila!
After they took off the rollers, my hair was super curly but she straightened my bangs and told me not to worry as I would lose 90% of it.
It’s been a month and I am very happy with it. My hair does not feel dry or damaged and I can control how curly I want it with the amount of mousse/​cream I apply.
Starts at $ 120 depending on your length and it is supposed to last 3+ months. I only wish they would have explained each step more so I knew what was going on.

Worst hair salon I’ve been to. Came here because of the good reviews on Unilocal but boy was I fooled.
I called a week in advance to setup my appointment. They told me the price for haircut and red color would be $ 90 for my medium length hair length (3 inches below shoulders).
I showed the stylist who seems to be the owner a picture of exactly what I wanted — A few more layers and a red color. After putting me in a robe and having me wait 30 minutes to start, she tells me it’ll be $ 140. $ 50 more than the price she told me! I was frustrated but since I was already there I decided to go for it.
When she was done, my hair came out PURPLE INSTEAD OF RED, and when I mentioned this she just kept saying it’ll fade into red. She also told me it was impossible for me to get the red I wanted because my hair was brown. WTF? Why didn’t she tell me this before doing my hair?
To top it off, she didn’t cut my hair anything like the picture. In fact, there was no style to it she just trimmed he bottom and gave me side bangs that I DIDNT EVEN WANT. No layers. And throughout the entire two hours she didn’t even talk to me or ask me if I liked it. When she was done she told some other lady to handle the bill and went on. Not only was this the worst hair do, it was also the worst service I’ve ever had.
By the way, my hair did not «fade into red» from purple like she said it would. This place is deceptive with the quality and price and I will never be going back.

I’ve been coming to Mina for over 15 years. I probably gotten over 100 perms, color, and cut combined. She’s my go to stylist. She is very personable, and skilled. If you are looking to get a perm or magic straight, go to Mina! =)

I came back here today after my first experience with Aap Ku Jung Beauty Salon 4 months ago. Mina straightened my digital permed hair with digital perm solution (?) and gave me a trim with a few layers. She told me that I can’t shower for a while but it’s fine with me^^ Mina was really kind and her helper was very kind too:) They both seemed like professionals and I trusted them 100%. Mina gave me lots of tips for taking care of my hair and warned me not to tie or pin my hair until after my first shower. She also told me that I can hair dry or use an iron to curl my hair inwards. I love this salon and it’s the only salon I have ever been to in my life! I really recommend this place to everyone :)

My sister and I came here for a hair cut and color. My sister loved her haircut and I showed the hair stylist of what kind of hair color style I wanted. It involved different hilights. I have attempted it before and got nothing similar. This time it was similar, not the exact same, but I loved it! She did it all for a great price and added a toner so that my color wouldn’t come out orange.

I’ve been coming here for many years. First owner, Kathy, moved on to greener pastures (aka irvine) but Mina took over the business. Mina did an updo and make up for the prom. The makeup stayed in place and looked good for over 7 hours.

I’m definitely coming back. I was greeted right away when I entered and they were all so polite and sweet. I got Nicole and she literally worked her magic and transformed my hair. It went from being completely dead to smooth and silky, and it looks extremely healthy now! I also got my bangs cut and I love her work!

Kay wasn’t there the day I wanted a haircut, so I went to Mina to get a two-​block haircut. She’s really great too and I got what I wanted. :) I’ll either go to Kay or Mina whenever I get a haircut here (whoever is available when I come)

Just got my hair cut today. Wonderful work done by Mina and her staff. Couldn’t tip them since I paid by card. I’ll bring some cash to tip them next time since they deserve it. Thanks a lot Mina I really love my hair now. She cut my bang and layered my beautifully. She asked me for my preferences before I got my hair cut and made sure if the length is ok while she’s doing her work.

No matter where I move to, I always come back here to get my hair cut (even though it takes me an hour & a half to get here!). Everyone does a great job, so I don’t ever worry that I won’t get a good haircut. Prices are really reasonable in my opinion. I believe they still offer free bang trims.

I’ve been going to this place for 8 years now since I moved back to CA from Boston and let me tell you there is a reason drive all the way from RSM to GG all those 8 years. Mina is so accommodating, a great hair consultant, and professional. She also uses shears (doesn’t rely on razors) which I look for in a quality haircut. The prices are decent and the service is well orchestrated. You don’t have to be Korean to go there as I’m not and they treat with the same respect, courtesy, and diligence. I am very happy with my haircuts.

I’ve been going to Mina for the last…19 years! Met her when she was trainee and now she kinda runs the place. I’ve recommend friends and coworkers here and all have had nothing but good things to say. Her prices are competitive and if you are a repeat customer, she’ll take care of you.

My wife and sister-​in-​law have been going to this salon for years now but I always balked at going to expensive, girly hair salons, opting for «manly» $ 7/​cut barber shops. But after getting bad haircut after bad haircut, I decided to take the plunge.
Setup an appointment with Kay, who has now done hair for my wife, sister-​in-​law, and both my daughters. When I got there, I got a quick shampoo and was promptly seated. I showed Kay a picture of what I was going for, she confirmed with my wife what I was after (as my Korean speaking ability is pathetic) and started to cut away. She really took the time to make sure that I was happy with everything before proceeding; I wanted it a little shorter in the back than what she had done and she had no problem doing as requested. She does voice her opinion on what she thinks would be best but never pushes it on you. And given that she has tons more experience, I deferred to her judgment on several points.
Summing it up; one of the best hair cuts I’ve ever had. The $ 25 + fat tip was well worth it. This will be my regular spot from now on and highly recommend Kay to guys and girls.

Wanted to get a drastic short hair cut from my long straight hair. Didn’t know where to go, except for the fact that AKJ did a fantastic job on my magic perm last time. So I came here again (walk-​in), and got the PERFECT short chin length hair. I think it was Minjoo, but not sure because she never introduced herself. Anyway she took great care in using scissors to carefully shape every strand of my hair, so that I don’t have to style it every day. It curves in perfectly and matches my face shape.
i would recommend this place to all the asian ladies out there. They do everything — perms, color, cuts, all excellently.
My cut (incl shampoo and dry) was $ 40.00.

I have been going to this hair salon three times so far and 100% satisfied with their service. They put enough time to take care of your hair and style. And all the staffs are very nice and humorous!
Esp, their price is really reasonable and affordable! Hair cut is $ 35 including wash, dry, cut and a little bit of styling. What a great deal! I just love it. :-)
Can’t wait go back there for my next haircut.

Aap Ku Jung Beauty Salon has been my go-​to hair salon for over a decade. I cannot stress enough how much attention and detail they put into their work. They make sure they analyze their customer’s hair type and make sure to suggest hairstyles that best fit the face-​shape of said-​customer. In addition, it is really comforting to know that this salon does NOT upsale you if you do not need it.
Mina has been my stylist since I was very young. Mina is very kind and knowledgeable in her field. Her interns are motivated and make sure your stay is comfortable. The staff is very friendly, funny, and sweet. They are honest with you and make sure that your hair is taken care of – the way you want it.
Surely, their prices are a little more on the expensive side in comparison to your typical SuperCuts, but I cannot stress how much it is worth it. I have recommended Aap Ku Jung to a few girls of all hair-​types: they all loved Mina and the rest of her staff.
If you’re iffy about going, try taking baby steps into their salon. Start with a cut and if you were satisfied, then go onto more elaborate services. Talk with them — ask them for advice and what they suggest. Take a leap of faith and be sure YOU know what you want because they WILL provide. I have never been disappointed.

I have seen males come through this shop as well. Most of them had hair on the longer-​side of the «short hair» genre.

I just had a digital perm for hair at this salon. Customer service is great. And the hairstylists knew what they were doing. They carefully checked my hair at every single step. I like big waves for my hair, so I was so afraid when they rolled my hair in in very small curls. However, the stylists calmed me down; they said since my hair was still virgin, those small curls were necessary. I believed them, and now I love my hair. My hair was very flat and thin, and now it has more volume. I got many compliments for my new hair. Yay!!!
My only complaint is that two stylists curled my hair: one rolled it more tightly than the other.
By the way, I will come back for a hair cut someday.
