We had a blast. My wife got a Thor helmet, because she is almost as geeky as I am. The parking was great! They have s parking garage attached to the building. We saw a lot of cool stuff that I will now show to you.

This was an alright convention. Very spacious and lots of people. But something was missing. I can’t put my finger on it. I liked the free parking as a perk, but I’m not sure its worth the $ 45 cost for a walk up weekend pass. Depends what it is you want from your experience. Of course if you buy tickets months in advance it’s much cheaper. There were lots of events going on, but I never seemed to be able to make it far out of the exhibit hall area.

I won two tickets from David and Unilocal to this event. Thank you very much. So, I went with a friend on Saturday, Jan 4. The weather in Galveston was very nice and we got there at 2 p.m. The parking garage onsite was very easy, well lit and free. The hotel still had Christmas decoration in some areas and looked nice. My friend goes to this type of events all the time and knows that the first thing you do is to go to registration desk to obtain a pass. There were several events or lectures in different rooms. The hall ways were lined up with games and people with or without costumes walking around. My friend, who went with me, is a photographer and knows lots of people there. We got tips that they were pulling together the Marvels and DC people to have an outdoor photo shoot spontaneously at 3 p.m. The whole shoot out run for an hour. There were two teams composed of heros and villains and they posted according to the photographers requests or instructions in teams, in groups and individually. There was a huge dealers room where you can browse and/or purchase lots of comic related items ranging from DVD, trinkets, art work, outfits… etc. In addition, there were several drinks/snack bars scattered all through the event. One of the perks of going to this type of events is the people watching. People in general are very friendly and you can ask those in costumes to post for you to take photos. Afterwards, we attended the costume contest at 8:30 pm. Some people really are creative and go all out to stand out. Lot of prizes or awards to the dozen people who entered the contest. There were other activities that we didn’t have a chance to attend including opportunities to meet with the stars and some music performances. In general, it’s a very fun Saturday for me. Be sure to have your camera going to this type of events in the future.
