This is a fairly new place and the food is 5 stars. Fresh flavors that are well integrated. However the service had a lot of errors; fortunately the customer service is excellent and fixes the errors with things such as free margaritas. I enjoyed the Masitas de Puerco — the pork fell apart it was so tender and the roasting in bitter orange added a tang that was quite pleasant. The beans were excellent. Other members of our group enjoyed the Bistec steak, Fajitas, and Lengua ala Portuguesa. The consensus was that the foods were unique, well flavored, and large portions. There was a variety of desserts from a chocolate mousse to tres leches to cajeta. We’ll be back as a group and my family will be enjoying a visit very soon. PS: I was surprised to see another reviewer comment about the«old-fashioned, still-functioning train» chugging through the town. I guess she was referring to the commuter rail MARC train but MARC is using new cars. It’s unlikely she meant the high speed freight trains.

Don Jorge’s is located at the very edge of what I call the cute part of Gaithersburg; all the buildings are fashioned with red brick, Narnia lamposts border the roads and an old-fashioned, still-functioning train chugs through town several times a day. While other businesses down the road don’t have their own parking lots, there is ample parking on both sides of Don Jorge’s(a private lot just for Don Jorge’s customers and another parking lot that’s shared with an auto repair store and a hair salon). The inside is bright, spacious, and clean with a bar to the left and tons of tables and booths to the right. Our waiter’s name was Andrew and he was extremely attentive and helpful all night. The service here is excellent! The food, however, was just alright. We ordered the nachos, ceviche, Mariscos Saltado, and Stuffed Shrimp with Crabmeat. Nachos: If you’re expecting heaping mounds of chips wth gobs of toppings that runneth over, this is na-cho dish. These nachos are the size of a normal Tostitos chip, topped with chicken and melted cheese. The plate also comes with spoonfuls of sour cream, pico de gallo, and guacamole. Also, you only get 4 of them if you order the small! I would stay away. Ceviche: This ceviche hits the spot, but I can’t say that it’s one of the best I’ve ever had. I can’t really even explain why it wasn’t amazing… it just wasn’t. That being said, the portion size is very generous and it was definitely worth the price we paid!($ 9 for the fish ceviche) Mariscos Saltado: This dish contained shrimp and scallops sauteed with red onions, cilantro, tomatoes, and green peppers laid on a bed of french fries. It also came with rice and beans. Again, the portion size was generous and filling and the quality of the food was good… it just wasn’t amazing. Stuffed Shrimp: This was the best dish of the night for sure. I always get nervous ordering crab at restaurants because they usually skimp on the portions, but Jorge’s chefs must be big-hearted and open-handed because these babies were absolutely stuffed! Very tasty meal that would probably cost at least 10 extra dollars at any other restaurant. Review in a nutshell: satisfying portions and agreeable food, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back.

In all fairness, I did go to this restaurant with a really large party 3 tables for 15 people, so perhaps lead to our poor experience here. Cons: 1) the drink orders were not correct. 2) it took a long time to get our drinks 3) the food was not good. We all ordered variations of the fajitas. This included ribs– they were not good. The flour tortillas were not good. Some people did like the chicken. I thought the beef was okay. But the rice was hard, the onions were not sautéed enough. The food just was not good. 4) the desserts were nothing to rave about. We had 1 of everything on the dessert menu and shared. Pros: 1. our water cups were always full. 2. It’s not full so we did not have to wait for a table even though we had a large party.

I have always been a huge fan of Mi Rancho in Germantown but a friend told me they tried this place which is right near our home and I was skeptical. Old Town Gaithersburg is an eclectic mix but we gave it a go. We were very impressed! We got the fajitas and my son had a cheese quesadilla. Food was terrific. Décor was lovely, restaurant was clean and our server was quick and very helpful. Don’t forget about those amazing margaritas. So pleased to find a gem like this right in our back yard! We will be back soon.

I was at work and did what many of us do and use the app to see what’s «nearby» and rated well. I chose this restaurant. No problem parking and food was good. Not a fan of warm salsa but that is just a personal preference. I would have given 3.5 stars for the food but the service was so excellent that I rounded up.

The place was small but clean. The salsa taste like warm marinara sauce. I asked for spicy salsa and he gave me a yellow spicy sauce. It was spicy, but gross. The spinach enchilada was gross. I wanted guacamole but it didn’t come with my enchiladas and a side was $ 4. My kids pizzas were disgusting and cold. It came on a bread with hard cheese. They like pizza, but didn’t eat any there. And the fries that came with it, weren’t even seasoned at all. My husband ordered a chicken dish that was a big portion, but tasteless. We also ordered a ½ a pitcher of Cadillac margarita, which was $ 24 and a waste of money. Taste like there was way too much margarita mix and taste more like a very mild house margarita. We didn’t understand why Unilocal gave it such good reviews, which is where we found this place and why we went. One of the worst restaurants we’ve been to in a long time! No wonder it was empty inside. Please save your money!

I loved this place. Surprising that I never came across Don Jorge’s and I don’t think I would have of it wasn’t for Unilocal. First off, the restaurant has a great look and feel — almost enough for a nice evening out dinner, kinda place. The hostess was nicely dressed, nice interior décor, waiters in uniform and service with a smile. We were a party of 4 — 3 adults and 1 child and we went on a Saturday night with no reservations. We were seated almost immediately, but I would recommend taking a reservation on weekends. The place was soon packed with several tables celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. Every table was occupied till 10 pm. And I did think that they were a little short staffed. Thy start you off with warm salsa and chips — very addictive !! Our waiter took our drink orders but we didn’t get it for about 20 mins since he was managing other tables as well and he himself had to go to the bar to make the drink. But the drinks were superb, so no complains there. I had the margarita — yummy, they don’t skimp on alcohol. We also tried the tamarindo– the waiter said it was fresh not the bottled stuff — good and we also had the Maranon– this is a drink that is made from the fruit of the cashew nut tree– very refreshing, I would recommend it on a hot afternoon. I had the Lomo saltado — sautéed beef tenderloins, I only wish they had given me more bell peppers than onions or maybe I should have asked for it. This was delicious! My hubby had the trout with sautéed shrimp in a spicy sauce. He loved it, the sauce especially lent the dish an extra layer of flavor. My guest had the whole red snapper — she loved it although I am not a big fan of whole fish! My little one had the chicken quesadilla — I thought there was too much cheese, but the leftovers tasted fabulous the next day. I definitely plan to come back to Don Jorges’s with my friends next…

If I could leave this place a 0 star I would. We came in today a little before 8:00pm. We waited about 10 mins or so to have a waiter come and acknowledge us. Then he came back and took our order for drinks and dinner. We let him know the nachos were for appetizer and he asked us to verify which was nice. The drinks took about 30 mins or so and it was just a Coke and a Jugo de maranon. The real problem was when 8:50pm came around and still no nachos and no food! I let the lady in the entrance, which I am assuming is the manager, that we wanted our check for the drinks and to cancel our order. Just to see the food came out a minute after I said something. The food was definitely not worth waiting for. The steak was not well done like we asked and the chicken wasn’t even cooked! The wosrt for customer service and the worst for food. Never again!

Food and service were outstanding. Why were there only three tables occupied at 8 pm on a Tuesday night?!? Most classy Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten in. I mean candles and soft jazz! My partner and I shared combo #2 fajitas. Among the best fajitas we have ever had. Very fresh ingredients! Top shelf margaritas were really good and strong… like liquid zanax :) Can’t wait to try something else next time!

Great food. Clean restaurant. Great service. We were visiting the area and used Unilocal to find a close restaurant. We had the beef fajitas and the seafood chimichanga. Excellent! I grew up with Mexican food and this was some of the best I’ve ever had. We highly recommend this restaurant!

The food is really great here and the service is wonderful. We have had pick up a number of times. The shrimp and ribs are good. The chimichangas and tacos are tasty. Steak can be a bit overcooked, so I would suggest ordering medium cooked. Overall, not a bad spot.

This restaurant was fine but nothing to really get too excited about. My husband got chicken enchiladas and I got polla asada. I had a nice time there and we had good service and the atmosphere was nice but the food was just not very memorable. My chicken was very dry and didn’t have much flavor. I don’t think we will go back.

Absolutely one of my favorite things about Unilocal is the wonderful guidance we get from Unilocalers in other cities. Once again, we found ourselves in an unfamiliar place looking for a great meal after the Young Un’s athletic competition. A quick check, great reviews, a great experience. Don Jorge’s is in the ‘historic’ area of Gaithersburg, an area we can see is working hard to revitalize. The building sports a well maintained and good sized parking lot, a premium item in this area, mostly built up before cars. As it has recently snowed, we were pleasantly surprised to see how well cleared the lot was, with no icy patches. We came rather late in the evening, just at the tail end of the dinner service. We were warmly greeted and seated in a comfortable booth. The restaurant is beautiful and understated, with white linen tablecloths, tasteful southwestern and Latin American art, and crystal light fixtures. This is not ricky-tacky Mexican restaurant décor with sombreros, pinatas and colorful blankets. It definitely has an upscale but approachable feel. Our server, Alex, was friendly and attentive. He came out right away with menus and greeted us warmly. Then they brought out tortilla chips and positively addictive warm salsa. Mmmmm… this is an auspicious start. The food options range from expected staples — chimichangas, enchiladas, fajitas — to more latin american fare and quite a few seafood options. For me, the litmus test is always the chimichanga, which is what both the Reverend and I ordered. Mayday got the shrimp stuffed with crabmeat and our Champion(he did very well in his meet) ordered the stuffed lobster. To a dish, everything was excellent. The chimichangas were NOT coated in queso or some other sauce, the meat was well flavored and tender, and the burrito was grilled, not deep fried. Both seafood dishes were happily devoured and declared«amazing, Mom». Dessert was a deep fried burrito with cream cheese inside served with vanilla ice cream and a slice of tres leches cake, both of which were also quite yum. We were there until almost closing time, yet we never felt rushed or unwelcome. It was an excellent way to end a competitive day, and we are looking forward to visiting again the next time we are in town.

I came here to lunch with a friend and we were not impressed. The salsa they provide is warm and although it had a decent flavor, I couldn’t get over the temperature. Both of our meals came with cold rice and beans(did they plate the first half too early?) The tortillas that came with the fajitas were stale. The main part of the entrees were good(we ordered chicken fajitas and a chimichanga) but nothing really stood out for the price that we paid. The server was friendly, but could have been more attentive(there were only three tables of people in the restaurant). Our water glasses remained empty for a long time. I usually try and support the locally owned places but they need to work on their attention to detail.

Our favorite part of the meal by far was the margaritas. We ordered a pitcher, which was a little pricey but oh so good. Blended to perfection — no large chucks of ice with a good dose of flavor and tequila. Our server made us a mix of strawberry and peach — yummy. He even added a small shot of extra tequila in our glasses which started our experience on a great note. The food was good too. I like the warm salsa and chips. Ordered the Marsitas de Puerco recommended in other reviews and was not disappointed.

4.5 stars! Chips and salsa: 5 stars. The salsa was so yummy and different bc it’s served warm! I loved it with the thin crisp Tortilla chips, also warm. Yuca with chicharrones: 3 stars. Nice crisp yuca, powdery and chewy center. The chicharrones were meaty pork, I was hoping for more fat or skin — and they were covered in a tomato sauce. I admit I like deep fries crispy pieces of pork. But maybe this is what some people prefer. Sopa de gallina. 4.5 stars Loved the fresh veggies and savory broth. Whole chicken breast and a quarter corn cob included. Beef quesadilla. 4.5 stars. Very tasty served with guac and sour cream. My only preference would be that the meat had a tinge of pink. Customer service:5 stars. Very friendly and attentive. Ambience 4 stars. I really like the white table Cloths and formality. Other great Latino food places are not formal enough even though they have great food. This place could be a place to take a date or celebrate a birthday. You actually want to sit a while and enjoy a long meal. Very pleasantly surprised by this place. It is still the grand opening but is excellent thus far. We were greeted Warmly when we walked in on a Thursday at 6 pm there were two other groups there.
