Vine wins five stars for their croissants which are gloriously flaky and buttery, and their scones which are unpretentious and unsugary, and their atmosphere which is quiet and relaxed. The shop feels like a bakery that is still growing so I think the selection changes a lot from day to day. I appreciate Vine’s strong commitment to sourcing local ingredients. The breads are magnificent and rustic with cast-offs from the day before available at a reduced price.

They created my wedding cake! Carrot! And oh so yum! And lunch, always delicious. Last visit I had the best butternut squash & onion garlic pizza! This spot makes me smile!

Best cinnamon roll in town. Perfectly caramelized sugar; none of that absurd cake frosting that other places use.

Yesterday as I was driving by I noticed a sign out front saying that Vine now serves lunch. I was intrigued(and hungry), so I decided to stop. My husband went in to check out the specials and place our take out order. He ordered their vegan special for me, which was a Tempeh and Cilantro sandwich. Sounded good to me! About 15 minutes later my sandwich was still not ready. My husband went to the counter to ask about how much longer and he was then informed they ran out of cilantro. That would have been nice to know, so we could have chosen something else and not wasted time waiting for a special that really wasn’t available. We weren’t really given any details as to what would end up going on my sandwich and we continued to wait. Ten minutes later, my sandwich was finally handed over. After waiting 25 minutes for a sandwich, I was ready to chow down. You can imagine my disappointment when I unwrap the foil and lay my hungry eyes on the most pathetic $ 8.00 sandwich ever. There was no cilantro, just tempeh, red onion and some sort of wilted greens. I was expecting some sort of sauce or flavor. It was flavorless, smashed down and a total waste of money. I hate wasting food, but I took one bite and threw the sandwich out. I have purchased highly mediocre vegan baked goods from Vine in the past, but this sad sandwich pushed me over the edge. I’m giving them two stars because I do like their loaves of bread, but I won’t be returning.

Just popped into Vine for what seems at this point like a speakeasy-style Sunday brunch. It was mostly quiet — even the bread was hiding — but the food was superb! Vine never under-achieves: their breads are rustic and hearty, their pasta fresh and flavorful, and the wine tasting dinner I attended there was so generous(re: tons of excellent breads, spreads, pastries, and wine) that I keep thinking if anything, they are under-stating themselves. Today, the single-page menu gave us 4 entrée options: pepper and fontina quiche, tempeh scramble, rosemary toast with poached eggs, or brioche french toast. With those four options you get two choose two of four sides: yogurt parfait, zucchini bread, quinoa salad, or eggplant croquettes. Then you also get a lovely salad, in addition to what all you choose. Plenty of food, plenty of combos of choices. I splurged and had a beet-apple-mint juice with fresh mint ice cubes. I also ate everything on my plate! It was so satisfying. Highlights: the quinoa salad had a seasoned tahini dressing on it that was out of this world and the maple granola on the parfait was deliciously toasty and homemade! Best part: we had our food within ten minutes of ordering and got to hang out in a quiet space on a lazy Sunday. Hope for Vine’s sake that more people get in on this seemingly-secret.

These people have no business calling their business a bakery! I’ve been here twice. The first time I went they didn’t accept credit cards, so I used my emergency stash of cash to buy a coffee and a sub-par pastry. The coffee was decent but my enjoyment of it was hindered by this establishment’s funky hair salon smell. I returned this afternoon to get a loaf of bread for home. Once again, it smelled like someone had just gotten a perm. The girl behind the counter sold me a loaf of «white sourdough» for $ 6.00… For this price I had some pretty high expectations but then again the bread was so dense it could easily be mistaken for a clay brick. I was glad to hear they’re taking credit cards now, until I was presented with the girl’s cracked smartphone to figure out how to pay on this knock-off Square app. Imagine my fury when I got home and tasted the bread to discover it was actually a loaf of rye! It wasn’t even good rye bread.

Vine is GREAT. Their pastries are expensive, but that is par for the course in Gainesville and they’re nothing compared to Maudes, Volta, even Uppercrust, and Vine knocks them out of the ballpark. Their croissants are flakey, buttery, crispy and soft; the flavours are fantastic(guava and cream cheese, Gruyère, chocolate, even plain is fantastic.) For a less indulgent purchase, they always have palmiers and sables for about seventy-five cents by the cash register, and they’re fantastic and perfect with a cup of coffee(in an actual cup, and refills are only a dollar.) Their bread is too expensive for me, at least, to buy anything except the plain baguette regularly — which is nothing to sneeze at — but the rye is absolutely fantastic. I’ve been impressed by their savoury food — the shakshuka is small, but cheap and spicy and great, and the soup is very good. It’s a great place to go with a friend, a book, some work — spacious, sunny, with unobtrusive, unpretentious music(really a rarity in downtown.) PS they have Square now.

LOVEIT! My favorite pastry is the guava and cheese croissant. The only thing that is inconvenient is that they are cash only

A hidden gem of deliciousness! I am particular about my coffee and baked goods and the Vine always meets my expectations. I am not always a fan of the big pot/urn of coffee but theirs is delicious fresh and made with quality coffee. Their take on a cinnamon role is excellent and the scones are also a great choice. Plus you can pick up fresh bread and homemade pasta for dinner all in the same trip.

Flavorful gougeres, chocolate croissant, quiche. Lackluster cheese croissant(needs stronger or more cheese). Overall pretty good and has a cool vibe.

I can’t find better bread and pasta in Gainesville! This town is lucky to have a bakery that could hold its own in the likes of New York or San Francisco. Even my favorite sandwich shop uses their bread and you can taste the quality in every bite.

Vine is such a wonderful place — a great place to hang out, an amazing bakery, and phenomenal happy hour spot on a Friday nights. To start with, the bakery itself serves coffee during the day(including iced coffee with ice cubes made of coffee, which keeps it from getting watered down), and offers plenty of seating inside and outside. Their WiFi is fast and their tables have lots of space, making it a great place to work. They offer food during the day — sometimes gazpacho, sometimes sandwiches — always a variety, which is nice. I’ve had their soups, sandwiches, hummus, pizza, cheese plates, pretzels(etc.) and have not once been disappointed. Everything I have had has been fresh and delicious; the employees are always friendly and happy to answer questions. My favorite part of Vine is their happy hour on Fridays. 6 – 8 pm, buy a bottle of wine and get a free cheese plate — all while listening to music(usually local musicians from what I can tell). It’s such a great atmosphere and a lovely meeting spot. If you want a little more quiet, there is outside seating available as well. Vine is definitely one of my favorite places in Gainesville!

Okay so here goes I finally went into The Vine and I was really not impressed to say the least. I went in on a Saturday around 9:45am still early to hopefully find some pastries no? NOWRONG! I walked in the overall feeling of this place was like going into someone’s book store in the beginning at the entry way and then someone decided hey let’s add a bakery. Oh ya with no baked goods. Anyway I walked to the counter and didn’t really see a menu anywhere just a few people using their free wifi. A few minutes later a man came and didn’t greet me say hello or anything so, I said is this all there is pointing to the bakery case with a few weird looking croissants and a muffin with a white glaze on top. He said yep and didn’t go on to ask were u looking for something special? Here’s our menu maybe u would like to place an order for next time nothing. So I said ok and turned around a walked right out. First of all the whole hippie bakery is just not doing it for me. And get some better décor oh and if your gonna advertise that your a bakery then have some baked goods hell if you can’t bake go buy some and sell them. Don’t see what all the fuss is about. By the way all the hundreds of bags of flour they have laying around is ridiculous. What’s the point if you don’t have any baked goods.

The male that placed my oatmeal raisin cookie in the bag mentioned that it broke«in half» because it was«gooey.» I’m the idiot for trusting his judgment, but as the attached photo shows, when I opened the bag i found this crumbled mess. So fuckin pissed. Thanks for nothing dude.

Everything that I’ve ever tried from Vine has been delicious. I especially love the Guava cheese croissant. The coffee is great and the people that work there are nice. Just after I had my daughter, I wanted to get out of the house but wasn’t ready to have many social encounters. I loaded her up in the car seat once a week and went to Vine for my coffee and pastry. Everyone was very friendly, which was great considering the fact that I was severely sleep deprived.

THEBESTCOFFEEINTOWN! Truly. They even have coffee ice cubes for iced coffee! Their mini quiches are amazing as are their croissants and other many baked goodies. They offer tons of gluten free and vegan options if that’s your thing. The atmosphere is really charming and they are cash only but they have an ATM where the fee is only $ 1.50. My favorite place in Gville :)

You know a place means business when there are 100s of pounds of four next to the seating area. But the true test: a croissant(or a baguette). It was great, and I mean it was freaking great. Baked fresh earlier today, it was flakey with just the right amount of internal pull and texture. Just heavenly. I also had a quiche. Nom nom nom. And iced coffee with coffee iced cubes. All with it. but the best part? The baker’s friend has a dog that sits outside and watches the neighborhood go by.

Of course the first time I go here, last Thursday, it’s the one day of the week they don’t bake. That being said, I got a $ 4 day-old country loaf, and took it home to my parents. We put it in the freezer, and just now I pulled it out, toasted it, and smeared it with kerrigold’s herb butter. Oh. My. God. It’s one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten. Kinda sourdough-like, chewy, but still soft. Oh man. I also got a Swiss cheese pastry when I went there, and ate it right away. It was huge, looked like it weighed about a pound, but when you picked it up it was light, airy, and full of sweet, buttery layers. The cashier was nice and friendly, and it seemed like the business overall is a very hip, yet down-home type bakery. I’d love to go back here on another day, to try something new! Bottom line, give it a try, you won’t regret it.

I have bought several loaves of fine bread from the Vine folks at the downtown farmer’s market, although their facebook says they are selling at other markets now. Lucky for me they also sell at Wards! The bakery is in an industrial looking U-store-it place, buried in the back. It is basically across 23rd from Satchel’s Pizza. Their hours are weird at the bakery so check the website before you schlep all the way out to Waldo Road. They are calling their bread sourdough, but that does not do it justice. It is not some lame Amish friendship bread. The bread mainly comes in hearty round loaves that have a wonderful chewy texture… they are definitely alive. I’ve had the 50⁄50 and the old 85 and both were really good. The bread is very filling… it is hard to finish a loaf with just my wife & I. It is wonderful toasted, it is marvelous as a toasted sandwich, and it is a great breakfast just sliced off and plain with a bit of honey.
