My favorite restaurant in Gainesville closed!!! Dannnnnnng. Welp, guess I’m going to The Jones B-Side instead… Hopefully you still have the Shitake Chicken on the menu!

By far the best food in Gainesville. If I eat anywhere else for lunch am usually disappointed. Everything is awesome here. Get anything and you will be happy.

This is a great local breakfast and lunch place! Out of the 2 Jones locations this one is much smaller so seating is limited and you may have a wait if you come at a busier time or with a group but a lot of times you can find a seat quickly. I have tried almost everything on the menu and haven’t found something I don’t like. The food is local grown and the specials change daily. The staff is all very friendly and helpful.(ask for Patricia, she’s great!). As a southern person I love Coke, but they don’t serve fountain drinks here. They do have a selection of other sodas in bottles(not Coke or Pepsi brands) and teas and coffee. This location isn’t easy to spot from the road but that doesn’t stop the local regulars and keeps it from being too crowded. I really like sitting at the bar and watching the good food come out of the kitchen to get an idea of what I want to try next time. This is a cash and check only business, no cards. For just me having a basic meal and a drink it usually runs about $ 11-$ 15. There is a second location(The Jones B Side) that is larger and can accommodate groups better. I think the B side is open later and has a few other items on the menu but I have only been there once.

It was a little quiet when I first arrived, which I attributed to it being slightly later than the average breakfast time, being that it was almost 10 am. I was wrong. Shortly after I arrived people started arriving in hoards. Currently, it’s 10:30 and the place is full. After enjoying the food and the service, I can understand why. Everything is organic and fresh. I ordered the farmer’s omelette, which had an amazing array of veggies in it, including asparagus! It came with either grits or home fries, but I was able to get some quinoa(and pretty large serving) for only $ 1 more, as well as toast. Very, very, very tasty. This is definitely one of my top 5 omelettes I’ve ever enjoyed. The service was also attentive, as well as quick. I came here for breakfast because I was passing through Gainesville due to my wanting to go to Burrito Bros. later, but I think I’ve found another reason to visit Gainesville more often. Make sure you definitely use google maps, or such, when you’re looking to come here because the sign isn’t very visible… but make sure you don’t miss it, because it’s worth it.

It’s a small storefront in a working class strip mall, between a laundry and auto repair shop. Vegan and vegetarian options abound, but you can also get meat or traditional breakfast and lunch. Not worth a long drive, but if you’re nearby, give it a try. My French Toast was barely egg soaked, so it was fluffy white bread with syrup. The yogurt, granola, fruit combo was plenty to eat, but the granola was not great. The veggie wrap was delicious according to my wife. All in all, pleasant but not worth a 15 minute detour. The Flying Biscuit nearby is much better.

So many vegan options! I was recently visiting Gainesville and wanted to go out for breakfast. This is not something vegans in Tampa can do very often. Looking over their menu I was almost overwhelmed with all of the options I had! I ended up settling for a simple bagel, but with not so simple vegan cashew cheese. They also had a choice between soy and almond milk for me tea. I’m withholding the fifth star until I go back and try some more menu items. They have a tofu scramble that has my name all over it.

Just about the only decent breakfast place in Gainesville. Maybe the only decent restaurant in general… In a town where every single restaurant is uninspired, serving only frozen American food, it’s nice to discover a place like this. It’s a little quaint and boutique-y, which adds to the overall charm. Coffee’s good, and the staff is really nice. Try the Blackhawk Burrito with bacon instead of that vegan sausage. It’s one of the best breakfast dishes I’ve ever had. Super fresh and super delicious. Warning: they only take cash or check. I almost had to run next-door to the pawn shop to get some cash.

Great delicious food! A bit pricey but its definitely one of the nicer places in Gainesville. Outside patio has succulents BUILTINTOTHETABLES! WOHOHO! I know, fancy. Inside has great atmosphere too. Service could use some work, I didn’t know I’d be charged 50c for water? Somethings or other about the environment. I guess… Great place! Bring your friends and eat local!

My friend and I were looking for a great brunch location and decided to try Jones Eastside based on the Unilocal reviews. To be honest, we were both really cranky, hungry and a little hung over so when we arrived and found out there were only like 7 tables in the restaurant is was a little annoying having to wait. There is really no place to sit inside or outside while waiting for a table so we were forced to sit on a bench outside a pawn shop, although the people watching was entertaining it would have been nice to have seating by the restaurant. In addition, this restaurant is cash only and you have to go insider the pawn shop to use the only ATM(sketch). Once we were seated things got way better and I was super impressed with the quality of food and menu items. I really like that everything is local and has a nice ‘farm to table’ feel. As I stated before I was a little hung over so I needed a mimosa and pancake immediately upon sitting. The mimosa was awful and I couldn’t drink it but the pancake and fresh maple syrup really hit the spot. I also ordered the famers omelet which was stuffed with yummy local veggies and served with an amazing vegetarian gravy and home fries. All and all this restaurant is awesome and the food was top notch. The servers were friendly and the food came out super fast. I would highly recommend calling ahead and making sure to bring cash :)

It looks like a lot of folks enjoy the breakfast here, but unfortunately, I only had the dinner. I ordered off of the«wholesome’ menu on the wall written in chalk. I had the mahi mahi. I thought it was okay, but not as amazing as I had expected coming in. I already enjoyed Jones B Side so much, and I thought that this place– being more expensive– would be even better. But I honestly would prefer Jones B Side. I thought the fish was done well, but it was sitting on some rice that didn’t really compliment as well as it should with such quality fish. Unfortunately, I’d have to rate this as a 3⁄5 because I wouldn’t mind going back to try more, but it’s not necessarily how I would spend my last meal in Gainesville.

I have been to this Café about 5 or 6 times now and I have always loved it.(I don’t recommend the other location downtown – it is overpriced and the food isn’t as good) Bring CASH. The service is pretty fast depending on the time of the day, all of the ingredients are fresh, and I feel good about what I am eating when I go. Great coffee – free and frequent refills – fantastic specials. I am gluten free and they have tons of options for different eating habits. You don’t have to feel bad about making substitutions. I would say that this is the best breakfast place in town.

Best breakfast in Gainesville! They offer fresh, local produce and you can taste the difference. It is as if each meal is prepared with love. Seriously! The place is small but not in an obnoxious way and the staff is friendly. Local art hangs on the walls(I purchased a screen print of a painting I saw on their wall, a lot of it is awesome). The only downside is you have to pay cash and if you’re anything like me, you never have cash on hand. Luckily there is an ATM next door. If you value food quality over all else, Jones is the place for you!

Very good breakfast! I had a wonderful breakfast date with my wife(she had been, I had not). Our waitress was very nice and always made sure my coffee was fresh. She had the Biscuits and Gravy(with potatoes). They were very good. I had Fish and Grits. Today the fish was snapper, and very well prepared. Nice, little spicy(which I loved), and very flavorful. Mixed with the small amount of jalapeño, onion, and tomato, the tastes were really good. I thought I don’t like grits but had read so much about them, I HAD to try. incredible spices and wonderful taste. We WILL be back. HIGHLY recommended.

I’m a UF Alum and I wish we had things like Unilocal when I was in school to find these awesome little restaurants sprinkled around Gainesville. I was in town for the weekend and didn’t want to go to a chain restaurant for breakfast. Based on the reviews I chose The Jones Eastside. All I can say is thank you Unilocal! It’s a small tiny spot in the middle of the plaza, but it’s quaint and cozy as well. They offer a lot of vegetarian options but for us meat eaters they have bacon too. I had the biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and cheddar. The serving size was huge. I usually only eat half when I dine out and take the rest in a to-go back but after one bite I KNEW this plate would be clean when it was all over. Best breakfast I had in a long long while. My girlfriend had the Jones Cristo I think it’s called. French toast was deliciously flaky(is that a real thing) and she too finished the whole thing. I promise to the breakfast gods that I will return to Jones Eastside every time I visit Gainesville from now on.

While the food is good, this location is way too high maintenance compared to its amazing The Jones B-Side location. WARNING: DOESNOTTAKECREDITCARDS, and parking lot is miniscule. And what is a «cozy» interior to some is just downright small to me and awkward for a 1st date. Go to their other location here in Gainesville, which is straight-up awesome:

My favorite restaurant in Gainesville of ALL-TIME. Honest to god, this place needs to get the award for best healthy eats, best organic food, best vegan/vegetarian friendly food, best hipster joint in all of gainesville, possibly all of north florida. The Vegout sandwich is by far the best veggie sandwich I’ve ever experienced in my life. The house pesto veganeise is left to be copied and wanting to know what the secrets are of this delicious simple yet defined spread that makes this sandwich so excellent. Falafel burger is great, Jones Rueben is great, basically everything on this menu is amazing and for anyone who loves healthy eating this is a must-eat place for you. However, I don’t suggest ordering tempeh if you don’t like tempeh steaks — I don’t like whole large non-transformed tempeh, which makes it feel like just a large piece of soy. Overall great place Pros: GREATFOOD GREATHEALTHYEATS Great organic ingredients Hipster atmosphere Pro-vegan Cons: Small Cash only needs more seats!

The Jones used to be one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in Gainesville. I hadn’t visited in about a year and went back recently for dinner and was utterly disappointed. The menu has changed significantly. There are a fraction of the options they had before and the options do not sound nearly as appetizing as the food on the old menu. They had quite a few delicious sounding specials but they were quite expensive. For example, $ 18 for a plate of ravioli when their usual prices were $ 8-$ 12 for a plate. The food we ordered was completely tasteless. Both my and my boyfriend’s entrees lacked seasoning of any sort. The entrée I ordered had tempeh and that was the only flavor I tasted on my plate. The service was great as it was before. But that cannot make up for the lack of menu options and tasteless food. Needless to say, we will not be returning to The Jones.

Combine a welcoming wait staff with thoughtful dishes made from extremely fresh ingredients and you have The Jones. This small Gainesville eatery serving breakfast, lunch and dinner and satisfying vegetarians and carnivores alike is truly a hidden gem. We stopped in for lunch and found The Jones offers daily variations on their lean Buffalo Burger. We were thrilled with the Cheddar, Bacon, and Fried Egg option. This combination worked so well, no condiments were required. The home-fries that accompanied the burger can only be described as crazy good: tender and well-seasoned. The Falafel Burger with Quinoa was an immediate hit. The home-made falafel was remarkably fresh and had beautifully balanced spices. The generous serving of quinoa was prepared with garlic and sautéed onion and rounded out the dish nicely. The ginger dressing that accompanied the burger was far too mild, but we didn’t feel it was necessary and didn’t miss it a bit. We ended our visit with a piece of Pineapple Upside Down Cake: moist home-made goodness with just the right sweetness. The Jones offers other tempting treats such as home-made oreos, carrot cake and blondies to name but a few. Check out the smaller blackboard on the front wall for the day’s offerings. Buffalo Burger(w/toppings) $ 9.95 Falafel Burger $ 8.25 Pineapple Upside Down Cake $ 4.25 Not that we’ll ever remember before we get there, but it’s CASH or CHECK only.
