i went here because i was recommended dr. ackerman via haile medical group. i have had chronic cluster headaches for 11+ years. i know my headaches inside and out personally and medically, and i have seen probably 15+ doctors and 4+ neurologists for them. most of those doctors were horrible. this was no exception. the wait time was very quick, and all of the staff were really nice(whew). i went into the room to have my vitals done and there was a massive poster for sleep apnea on the wall. i didn’t know a lot about dr. ackerman aside from neurology, so i assumed it was just some literature given to them by a sample company. he seemed very nice at first but fixated on sleep, insomnia, etc. while i do have insomnia, it was completely irrelevant to my headaches. he told me to stop taking what had been taking for my headaches and that he would prescribe me prednisone for a week to «cleanse my system.» he then prescribed me something i had already taken for my headaches years earlier but in a fraction of the dose and swore that it would help. afterward, he diagnosed me with sleep apnea(surprise) and suggested i do a sleep study. he would use words such a «analgesic» and then feel the need to explain them to me. if you think i don’t know what it means then don’t use the word — dumb it down or don’t. i am 5’3″ and 95 lbs. no one in my family has sleep apnea, and i do not have sleep apnea. i don’t even snore. secondly, i only wanted an mri to make sure my brain wasn’t being eaten by any headache-causing worms. i know my headaches inside and out, and i didn’t appreciate the attempt to pull a blanket over my head. thirdly, i already am manic and am prone to infections. the last thing i need to be taking is prednisone, especially two weeks before christmas. yes, let’s make a monster and free it on a cross-country plane. this is the only neurologist i have ever met to completely dismiss the idea of mailing in my past mri scans to compare them to my new one. he wanted to «start fresh,» but without the benefit of having something to compare it to. i’m obviously not a doctor, but none of that makes sense to me. he didn’t listen to what i had to say and dismissed it with a «now, play along with me here» and gave me his card — dr. ackerman, neurologist, sleep medicine. it was basically like going into a flooring store that specialized in tile and walking out with tile. no shit. i’m getting a new neurologist. i’m also getting a new doctor — one that doesn’t recommend magic shows.
