Who would’ve thought Id find an awesome Korean restaurant in Gainesville! This was strongly recommended by someone I know. Im glad I went! Its very hard to find great asian restaurant in Florida. Had the Kalbi, which was seasoned well and cooked just right. All the other things like Kim Chee was also great! The main dish we had was the Gob-chang-jun-gol, which is a soup with noodles, veggies and intestines. There are two sizes, one for $ 29 and a bigger for &39. We shared the $ 29 one within four people and we were stuffed! Before the hot pot stew is brought out, they will setup this burner on the table. Then theyll bring it out and put it on the burner to cook a little more. A few minutes and its all ready to go. The flavor of the soup was amazing! If you like to go to Ramen Noodle places, you definitely will like this place. The noodles that was in this soup is the thick round noodles thats typically in asian soups. Id recommended this place to anyone who enjoys Asian food.

This is my go to spot for Korean food in Gainesville. Their food and hospitality is consistently great. They will always refill banchan and waters quickly. For the food, I am a huge soondubu jjigae(tofu soup) fan. The chef will make it less spicy for you upon request. I also really enjoy the meat options. One of my personal favorites is the kan pung ki(I believe it was called this…) This dish is a bit pricey but includes a lot of meat. My boyfriend and I typically come here and split this dish or end up taking half home. I have never tried their kbbq but have sat outside in the back area for a large event. The area is covered and will fit large parties. It was at this party that I ordered their Bibimbap and was a bit disappointed that it was served in a regular bowl as opposed to a hot stone bowl. I’m not sure if it was just because the restaurant was packed that day or if I ordered the wrong item but the rice was not crispy as a result. This was the only disappointment I experienced in my many times of coming here.

This will be the first one-star Unilocal review I’ve ever done. Actually, it will be the first negative review. We got fishcake tempura and a beef and octopus hotpot for two. The fishcake«tempura» was just fishcake tossed in flour and fried, no seasoning or flavor — it was tasteless. The«hotpot» cost $ 35.00 and hardly had any beef or octopus in it. The beef and octopus were flavorless, and the octopus was inedible because it was so incredibly rubbery, tough, and chewy. The hotpot also had SO much tofu in it, when tofu wasn’t listed as one of the ingredients, probably to compensate for the lack of beef or octopus. The«broth» for the hotpot wasn’t even broth, it was hot water and red chili sauce. I tried to get a refund but they just sent more of the exact same gross food.

Great food. One of my favorite places in town. The spicy tofu soup with seafood is my go-to menu item. It’s not the cheapest place, but I think it’s well worth it. Your order comes with the traditional side dishes(banchan, I think they’re called)…which are refillable. I never really liked kimchee until I had it here. The place is rarely ever busy at lunch time during the week, so that’s a good time to give it a try.

I went there two times and it made me fall in love with Korean Food. I love their Korean pancake, very crispy and rich in texture. I like their Barly tea, it’s very refreshing and I believe it’s free of charge. The place is quite expensive for college students, but definitely worth every penny. Hint: You’ll notice that most of the client are Asians, which should tell you that the food is quite authentic.

Yesterday I went to my first Unilocal event with two of my friends. it was unofficial but still fun. I got to meet a group of cool and quirky foodies. the atmosphere was nice and food was delicious. the only problem we had was that one of our friends didn’t get their food until very late. overall it was a very pleasant experience and I look forward to eating there again. BTW this is my first Unilocal review ever lol

As a Korean who was raised off her grandmother’s cooking, I would have to say that this is a pretty good substitute for great Korean food. Service: 4⁄5 The staff is extremely friendly and no matter how many times I ask for them to refill my side dishes, they always do so with a smile on their face. I can’t get enough of their tempura! Price: 3⁄5 I personally think the prices are a little on the high side, especially if you don’t make it in time for the lunch special(which is a great deal by the way!). I almost always end up spending about $ 20 for a meal and as a graduate student on a budget, I only treat myself to this once in a while. Food: 4⁄5 I’ve tried just about everything on the menu. The spicy tofu soup(seafood version) is great! I love how it comes out boiling in the clay pot so you know it’s just fresh. A few of my favorites include the flaming pig(their sweet and spicy sauce is perfect), their various soups(yukejang, kalbitang), and of course, their kalbi(marinated short rib). Portions aren’t huge unless you get the special entrees which feeds 2 – 4 people per dish but with all the side dishes you’ll be full. Definitely recommend :)

Came here a few weeks ago when I was waiting for our furniture to be delivered. Wanted some Korean soup and was excited when I found this place close to our place. I ordered jjampong. I asked for it extra spicy, which they attempted by added some jalapeños. The flavor was good, not a lot of noodles but tons of veggies compared to seafood. Gave 3 stars because it doesn’t come close to the best jjampong(which technically would be my moms but when speaking from a restaurant…) that I’ve had. The service was great though. Had a good convo with the waiter. Also, the banchan() is not appetizers. It’s like the salad to ur steak, the potato salad and green beans to your bbq or ribs. It’s dishes you eat along with your main dish of food. For example, when you order bulgogi and eat it with the rice, it tastes ten times better with some kimchi or sprouts(if it’s made right). If you order jajamyeon, the pickled radish(yellow or white… I think white is sweeter) makes it that much better.

This place is near the Publix next to subway. It is bigger inside than it looks. The décor is really plain, and not cheezy. The music was Korean pop that was played a bit too loudly. I had Gyoza as my appetizer, and it was really good. The Beef Bulgogi was excellent, and came with a nice sticky rice and veggies. The food was not really spicy hot, and was more Americanized in the spices. Contrary to other reviewers I thought the meal was a good deal, and was not any more expensive, than say the Flying Biscuit. I will definitely be back.

Really love this place. Has been one of my fav in these two years. Seafood pancake is a must-order. Always enjoy the tofu soup and dolsot bibimbap. Love the budae jungo we got today too!

Good, but expensive for what you get. The food was pretty great actually, everything I would’ve wanted out of a restaurant bibimbap. My only problem? The prices are pretty high, and at least in my meal I didn’t get enough beef to justify the cost. Don’t get me wrong, it was still really good. I’ll definitely come back and pay the slightly high price. It’s just this place would earn a 5⁄5 in my book if the prices were a hair cheaper, or the portions a hair bigger. But hey, at least they have free refills on soda.

Pretty meh! The panchan was not so great. Jjabchae didn’t do it for me. Tonkatsu was nice, as was the salad and veggie tempura on the plate. Nothing at Garlic & Ginger is horrible, but I won’t be back.

I’ll start by saying that the wait service staff was excellent. Now, for the most important part, the food. This was our first jaunt into Korean food. My son and I, once again, went out looking to satisfy his 17 year old craving for beef. We both ordered the Bibimbap; beef and chicken, respectively. We were quickly unimpressed by the dishes. That’s a lot coming from growing teen who will eat just about anything when hungry. It was just greasy food, not a lot of meat, the rice was overcooked-stuck to your teeth and the seasoning was just blah. For the third most important grade, value. I personally walked away thinking I had overpaid. We’ve heard good things about this place, but we both walked away with an unsatisfied funny feeling. My son in his belly, and me in my wallet. I am not a cheapskate, and like paying for good food. However, this was not it. Maybe is college town food standards, the power of social trends or peer pressure that numbs taste buds and subsequent ratings. At any rate, if you’ve never eaten at Garlic & Ginger, lower your expectations and you may do just fine.

This restaurant located 10 minutes S W of UF in Gainesville. I ordered chicken bulgogi. It came with a bowl of white rice, 5 sides dishes, tasty chicken with vegetable on a sizziling hot plate. At the end of the meal, the waiter brought us a bowl of cold sweet ginger soup as dessert. It tasted refreshing and it’s free. The service was fast. The ambiance was excellent. I will come back to try other dishes next time.

This restaurant locate 2.4 miles from highway at Archer Road of Gainesville. It is Korean restaurant that is family styles with big fish to share. However, I am traveling myself only. I am going to the smaller dish. I wish you all can be here to join me. This is really a good food place. I having the Korean grill mackerel. It come with 5 small Korean appetite dish and a soup for $ 15. Great deal. The soup is spicy miso base with mushroom, tofu, cucumber, onion and dry mushroom. The small dish are kimchi, marinate bean sprout, fried taro, seaweed, spicy scallion. The mackerel is well grill and crispy. I like this restaurant and will be back when I pass by. I cannot believe we have good Korean food here. The service is good. For the short lunch the order came out in 12 minutes while you enjoy the small dish.

Nice little place in the Publix shopping center. Came in to have dinner and ordered the Korean BBQ Short Rib and Seafood Pancake. I am a big fan of Korean Short Ribs. How can you go wrong with ribs? Flavor is excellent and most of the rib meat were tender and few was not. That didn’t ruin my experience. The Seafood Pancake was enormous and was tasty. It was slightly on a toasted side. Couldn’t finished the pancake appetizer. I came in around 6pm on a Friday and it was not pack. Service was quick and the staff was attentive. I am sure that won’t be the case when they hit prime time for dinner. There were a lot of Asian people eating here which is always a good sign that they are doing something right. Since I am not from Gainesville I would surely come back again.

We were full of expectations when reading the good reviews here before going to this restaurant. Unfortunately our experience only proved that the food was very pricey for their authenticity and taste. I am keeping the score this level because the interior was neat and well kept. As to the service, waiters and waitresses were not particularly nice or attending.

The only Korean restaurant in Gainesville. With that being said, I was a frequent visitor when it first opened and now I am sad to say I will not visit again. The quality since it first opened has seriously decreased. The portions are terrible and the service is getting more and more unfriendly and unattentive. The only thing that has gone up was the pricing. Bibimbap is probably the cheapest and most-filling option, but lacks flavor and personality. Galbi is good but for &17 you would hope the portion would be better. The Korean BBQ on the patio(picnic table) is a joke and a disgrace. the use the mini gas grill that you can purchase on your own that causes the meat to be dry. Huge dislike. No rice paper, no lettuce. Side dishes are scarce and lacking flavor. I don’t think I’m coming back again if this is the direction that GNG is going towards.
