I’ve been hoping an awesome sushi spot would make its way out to our part of town, where chains stretch as far as the eye can see. Lo and behold, Kumo is it! Everything we had was excellent. Can’t recall the names of the rolls at the moment but I posted pics to Unilocal.Great service. Location is about to be even better with the Lincoln Brewery opening up next door. Can’t wait to go back.

Normally when I eat in Fuquay i have to temper my expectations a bit. So I was pleasantly surprised after eating at Kumo. Its not just good sushi and sashimi«for fuquay» its just good! My wife and I usually trek up to Raleigh when we want sushi and she has a craving for her favorite sashimi – Uni. But now we have something right down the road! Hope they continue to do well and crank out great food.

While the waitstaff was polite they seem to be understaffed. It was a Saturday night and had a packed restaurant with only 2 waitresses that knew what they were doing and 1 new one. We waited over an hour for food. While it was good, they are very stingy on compensation for people’s time and troubles. They could also use a bus boy. Very sad as this is the only local sushi restaurant.

No idea how the food is because we didn’t get to eat. Arrived at 2:50 and walked in was getting ready to sit down and was told well it is almost 3 and we are going to close now for our break at 3. Well you know what? If you were closing for your break lock the door so no one can come in. Don’t let a customer walk in sit and not serve them because you want to go on your break in a few. You will never get my money after that and the attitude you had about it

3.5 stars. I was excited to try Kumo for the first time but it left me underwhelmed in the sushi department. I ordered their special of the night. It featured King Crab and Otoro. For $ 17.95 I did not expect to get the highest grade Otoro but at least the fish from the right part which is the belly. It was at least pink but not buttery with fish fat but dry. It was tough and chewy. In the light of the restaurant it did not even look pink. Only after I looked at the photo on the computer did I see it was at least the right color. I suspected I did not even get the right cut of fish because of the texture. When I have gotten Otoro at other sushi restaurants like Waraji and Sushi Thai it was so buttery and amazing. The king crab was also dry and there was not much of it. Even the avocado was lacking in presence. It was a normal size roll — I was expecting it to be bigger due to the king crab and the price. I at least know the king crab was real as I got a piece of the shell or something in my roll. I did not appreciate biting down on that. The plate presentation was at least nice — it was served on a leaf. My friend got the volcano roll from the regular menu and it was also pretty. I could have done without the crunchy tempura on top but otherwise it was tasty. The presentation on that roll was very pretty. The squid salad was tender, flavorful and presented in a very pretty bowl. The miso and clear broth soup was good. The waitress was friendly and did a good job other than forgetting my bamboo chopsticks I asked for. In the end my friend paid with a card and I paid cash. My waitress was busy so another brought me my change but without the receipt and she did not break up the bill so I could pay the tip. Overall it was not a disastrous visit and I would return at the insistence of a friend. But I do not see myself coming back on my own. There are enough good sushi places that I won’t make a trip back. If I want Otoro or other specialty fish I will go to Sushi Thai as they have never served me but what they advertise and the fish is always fresh. If I want fun sushi that is a great combo of flavors at a great bargain I will go to Sushi Iwa(for $ 17.95 you would have gotten 2 great rolls). If I want clean, fresh, well prepared sushi that is not covered in sauce or tricks I will go to Genki. If I want quick cheap sushi there is always Harris Teeter. I wanted Kumo to be a place I could go locally for sushi but they did not make the mark for me. There were plenty of people all around us enjoying hibachi and other dishes. The other couple who got sushi liked their boat that had several of the«normal» rolls. It’s beautiful inside, clean and with plenty of tables. Don’t shy away if you want to try it. Just don’t ask me to come. =)

I have always had an excellent time at Kumo, the staff is always friendly and even remembers my face. I am seriously addicted to the spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls. I feel that their recipe is better than any other place I have been. I generally go their for lunch because of the specials. The best deal is the 3 rolls for $ 10.95 which I always find tasty and satisfying. Their sashimi lunch is always excellent as well. The only thing is I wish the other rolls were maybe on a BOGO system. Love the food!

Ordered the miso soup as always, it is predictably delicious here. Never disappoints! Great variety of lunch specials are available and their entire menu is extensive without being overwhelming. The sashimi here is a favorite of mine & the fish is always palate pleasing fresh. You’ll meet Vicky & she is pleasant to talk with, will give you great recommendations based on what you like & possibly even remember you next time.

Came in for lunch, ordered shrimp tempura bento box. Highly recommend it. Tempura batter is hard to master but they did a very good job. Green tea was excellent. Not your typical teabag stuff. Green tea brewed with roasted rice. Sushi though was mediocre. Not your top grade ingredients. Stick to the basic stuff. Staff was pleasant and very attentive.

Teriyaki beef was excellent. You can tell they use high quality beef. Sushi was excellent and I over did it with two speciality rolls. May do miso or salad and just one speciality roll next time.

Came here for dinner break in between studies. Been craving sushi and Fayetteville hasn’t been providing justice on the freshness of fish for me lately. I went to Japan a few weeks ago so my taste buds are a little bit more uppity than most, not to mention I’m from Hawaii so expectations are high for quality besides the costs that is. Overall I am extremely pleased, served right away, waitresses very attentive, sushi chef has great presentation, costs are reasonable, and the restaurant is spacious with music that isn’t either blaring. I had the extra dry asahi, sashimi appetizer, and the crazy tuna. I loved loved the sashimi because it was fresh and besides the presentation they had a purple hibiscus, shiso leaves, and shredded daikon which I always love! The crazy tuna had great sauces that weren’t overpowering the taste of the tuna either. I will be back and I will bring reinforcements to this establishment. Nomnomnom

I really wish this was better because I love local businesses, but it was not too yummy ! Tempura does not come with traditional tempura dipping sauce and had a very greasy coating. Rice has peas, eggs and carrots which isn’t at most traditional places either and peas/eggs were over cooked. Sushi roll was not very good either, bland and I’m not a big fan of dressed up sushi. Miso soup wasn’t the best either… Sorry. If you are looking traditional Japanese, then this is unfortunately not the best place.

First of all — crazy good lunch specials. Check it out! Now for my dinner — I really enjoyed this meal. We walked in at the very end of the evening. After checking with the sushi chef and waitress, we decided to stay. The service was excellent. The waitress was kind, full of great suggestions, and excellent with the refills. We ordered the seaweed salad, squid salad, and spicy crab salad. The squid salad was very good. The portions on all of the salads were tasty. The jalapeño Manhattan a was a surprise hit. The sushi was beautifully presented and full of flavor. We had the eel Naruto, Black dragon, and haven rolls. We each shared pieces of each. Each quite tasty. Overall — it isn’t morimoto, but it is good and a great addition to the area. We will totally eat here again.

This would be an easy 3-star review if it was in Raleigh or Cary… but the fact that it’s in Fuquay, and the service was great makes it an easy 4-star. FINALLY — some decent sushi in Fuquay! I wouldn’t agree with others that it «rivals» some of the best in Raleigh, but it was good — and we’ll definitely be back! The service was wonderful — and we were even given a complimentary appetizer, not sure if it’s because we mentioned it was our first time, or because we were there somewhat early for dinner, and the place was pretty empty — either way, it was a nice gesture, and very good. We ordered a hibachi entrée, a large specialty roll, and 2 smaller standard rolls. The specialty roll(The Fantastic) was very good! The smaller rolls — Philly and Shrimp Tempura, were both just OK. The hibachi was a very generous size, and the shrimp and chicken were fresh and large… we got fried rice and it was just a little different than expected… but overall the hibachi was decent. Bottom line — next time we’ll stick to the specialty rolls and maybe try some sashimi… but we’ll definitely be back. Hope this place is able to stick around in FV!!!

Came in since we were in Fuquay and wanted to try something nice. We were sat quickly and greeted by our kind server. We started off with the crispy calamari appetizer. It was okay, the breading on the squid was pretty thin and it was a small portion. We ordered shrimp hibachi and tempura soba noodle soup. The shrimp had a sauce reminiscent of teriyaki but it was still a good dish. The tempura soup dish came with tempura broccoli, tempura shrimp, tempura carrot, tempura zucchini, and tempura onion on the side of the soup that had fresh zucchini, broccoli, and onion in the broth. Pretty good!

The Eel Naruto is dependably delicious the 5 times I have been here & the Miso soup… the tofu is so soft & tender it practically melts in your mouth. There are at least 11 beers to choose from and 8 kinds of sake, plus they have a 17 bottle wine selection. Tonight will be the first time trying Gyoza, the dumplings.

My husband and I just moved into the area and I was excited see a sushi joint right by my house. This place was a big let down! We started off with soup. I got the clear soup which might have been the best thing I had while eating here. It was really good. My husband had the miso soup which I tried and it tasted bland. Like it needed more miso paste in it. We ordered the rock and roll sushi roll. That was good but seemed over loaded with sauce. Than they brought out our free appetizer. Peppered tuna, that was good. Than our sashimi and sushi combo was placed on the table. The sashimi was very small pieces and the fish just didn’t taste good. I don’t know if it was old or what but even the salmon had a funny taste. The sushi rice was so dry. It crumbled and fell apart. The fish wasn’t that good so we didn’t eat it. The service was good but the place was empty. I think there was 2 – 3 other tables with people dinning. All in all I was very disappointed with this place.

We went for lunch today and the place was about a third of the way full. To start with our service was prompt. I ordered the three sushi roll lunch special with the spicy shrimp roll, Alaska roll, and spicy tuna roll. It came with a soup or salad and I chose the salad. The ginger dressing was just OK. I have had better at other Japanese places but I have also had worse. It was your standard iceberg mix which I always find disappointing… Salads are so much better when made with mixed greens or spinach! The spicy shrimp roll didn’t have much flavor and was super dry. I almost HAD to dunk it in soy sauce so it wasn’t like chewing on sawdust. The Alaska roll had to best flavor of the three but was still just a standard salmon, cucumber, and avocado deal. The spicy tuna roll had just enough kick to it and I would say it was the best of the three I had. My mother ordered the shrimp teriyaki bento box and all I tried was her fried rice. I can say it had wayyy too much black pepper in it. I even like black pepper and it was overwhelming. While the wait staff was courteous, I had to sit my empty water glass at the edge of the table for several minutes before it was refilled. The layout of the restaurant is nice… open, airy, and modern with Japanese background music. Overall I found this place a bit of a disappointment. I suppose I would try it again at a later date to see if things have improved but it is definitely not at the top of my list.

Very open, very clean… in a small town. Menu needs a lot of work. The food… absolutely amazing. Got the golden tree and the ocean. The beer isn’t served in a cold glass but the food is worth the drive. Good job good food guys.

We were excited that there was a new hibachi and sushi restaurant coming to Fuquay as the other non causal one had failed to impress us. We were also tired of driving to Cary or Holly Springs for decent sushi. So we decided to give Kumo a go as they have been open about a week. Hostess tried to push for takeout instead of 25 minute wait. There were plenty of tables open but not enough wait staff. The hostesses were talking to each other saying«please don’t come in» when they saw someone approaching the door. When anyone came in they tried to hold up a menu and push them towards takeout. We were seated after only 10 – 15 minutes. Then we saw that the horrible service extended into the wait staff too. We ordered two appetizers the calamari and gyoza(pork dumplings) and 4 sushi rolls. As we were ordering one of the staff interrupted and pulled our server to the side. Well we ended up waiting 35 minutes on our appetizers. Apparently they switched up our ticket. When they came out the calamari was like 6 rings of overcooked chewiness. The dumplings tasted just like the ones I get at Costco. There were also no appetizer plate provided. We had to ask for them and for a set of chopsticks as there were only one set on the table. They then tried to drop off Hibachi chicken to our table that we didn’t order. Our server then looked confused when we told her ordered sushi. She then came back and told us they didn’t have the ingredients for one of our rolls. Finally we got our sushi and it was good but the server didn’t take the time to explain which rolls were which, just dropped it and ran. We then had to ask for plates and soy sauce dishes and asked for low sodium soy sauce. Our server told us that it was on the table. It was in a container(crock with pour spout) with no markings. Who knows if it was actually low sodium. My drink was then re-filled with regular Pepsi instead of diet. Because of our wait they didn’t charge us for drinks. That’s the only semblance of service they seemed to have. Hopefully they’ll hire some competent staff and start serving fresh prepared appetizers. Then we would come back. The service ruined it for us for now. Two stars only because the sushi was good.
