Atmosphere: hidden, very small restaurant, dark, quiet and candle lit. Not black tie but can be if you choose to. Ordered items: The chef’s special; petite filet, veggies, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese and cheese platter. It was my birthday weekend when my boo bear decided to surprise me and take me to this spot. FULL disclosure(all the ladies will understand): ATTIREISNOTSTRICT, I fought with my boyfriend over this because I was stressing out that I would be under dressed. Once I was finally took a chill pill and found a dress I was ready for this awesome experience. When we arrived we took about 10 minutes trying to figure out where to actually go so it was a fun little scavenger hunt. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and seated promptly. We were in the dining room with about 5 other coupes so it was very quiet and romantic. Within a couple of minutes we were helped by a wonderful waiter who was outstanding from the beginning to end. The waiter went through the menu with us and let us know about the specials and what his personal favorites were. I immediately went for one of the chefs specials. We also decided to get the cheese platter and some cocktails. I cannot remember for the life of me what the name of my drink was, but it had absinth and whiskey in it. As I was sucking down that delicious cocktail the cheese platter arrived. It was a good sized wooden board filled with fruit, salami slices, goat cheese, a milder cheese, bacon apricot jam and walnuts also served with the rosemary bread. I was a huge fan of the goat cheese, it was perfectly tempered and went nicely with the rosemary bread. I was surprised with how the goat cheese literal melted into my mouth. Very shortly after our entrees arrived. It was a filet(medium rare) baby zucchinis, mashed potatoes and jumbo shrimp. We also ordered a side of mac and cheese. The filet was cooked well but to be completely honest I’ve had better steak at other places, it was not cooked perfectly and also had no seasoning. The jumbo shrimp was delicious and literally jumbo they were so good and buttery. The mashed potatoes were also very yummy and pared nicely with the baby zucchini. Unfortunately the mac and cheese fell short as well, it was nothing special and could defiantly get better somewhere else. About mid-way into our meals our waiter asked if we were interested in ordering the soufflé because it takes 20 minutes or so to be made. I was actually very surprised about how this soufflé also failed. It was perfectly cooked and fluffy but the flavors didn’t mix well with me, the strawberry and vanilla. Literally as we were so full and ready to leave we were given a complementary crème brulee We were constantly checked on and always had a full glass. It was definitely an amazing unique experience.

My family celebrated my mom and dad’s birthday with a special dinner at The Cellar. It’s expensive here but definitely worth it for a special occasion. And be ready for the darkness. Your eyes will get used to it but it’s definitely dark. Their specialty cocktails are great. I had the Bell & Sebastian and it was a perfect mix of spicy and tasty. I started off with the lobster bisque soup and it was phenomenal! For my main meal I got the 8oz filter and it was cooked perfectly. The only miss(which was still really good) I felt was the dessert. We got the soufflé with strawberry and while it was good it wasn’t mind blowing. Great special dinner spot!

Overall the food was good but the scallop entrée was small(3 scallops) more like appetizer size as was the onion soup) a cup not a bowl). The restaurant smelled musty. It was our anniversary and we ordered the soufflé which again was small. After we had paid our check(about $ 100 per) the chef remembered it was our anniversary and sent out a one person size crème brûlée. The cocktails were great as was the Chardonnay that the bartender recommended. I am glad we dined here but for the money there are better places. Service was very good and accommodating.

Very elegant restaurant with a beautiful architecture and décor. The staff is always looking sharp and they give great recommendation on the choices. The food and drinks absolutely delicious! Atmosphere: very romantic with low lighting and a mysterious entrance going downstairs. I came here to celebrate my GF Bday on Friday. It took us a couple minutes for us to find the entrance, but after that everything was great. We first stated with a couple drinks and the Cheese Board. We selected a variety of different Goat cheeses and an amazing blend of meats that was delicious. We then started with our main entre for the night. We both ordered the Chefs special which contained a 6 oz Filet Mignon with 4 shrimp and a side of veggies. The FILETMIGNON was the best ive ever had. The cut of meat was perfect the seasoning and sauce was soo good. The staff was awesome, they offered us a free dessert for the Bday Girl. We received a complimentary crumbelee. Overall, this place is very elegant requires dressy attire. Its an elegant place to take your significant other on a romantic date. I highly recommend the Filet Mignon.

I can’t believe I haven’t written a review for this place yet! I love it here! While the dining is amazing, I prefer sitting at the bar and watching the specialty drinks being made. Every 3 months or less they make a new menu of classic cocktails all the way back to the old days of cocktails with bitters and syrups and spritzes and fruits and just about any kind of liquor you can name from specialty runs and scotches to vodkas with different sources and types you haven’t even heard of! The drinks look amazing and taste even better! If you’re there when it’s not busy you can even try out new drinks and they always have the Jedi mind trick where you just ask for them to make something up and you specify the liquor base and type of flavor your looking for — smoky, sweet, fruity, or a flavor like raspberry, chocolate, or whatever you like. The ambiance is very classy with dark colors, 40s era bartender uniforms, and 20s-50s music with a little rat pack every now and then. Best bar deal used to be the grilled cheese w/pork and the replacement for that is the steak sandwich — soooo good! This is also the best place for lobster bisque. Seriously, best.

Interesting restaurant inside. We had secluded table for 6. Lobster bisque excellent. French onion okay, not great. The escargot was excellent. The drinks are tremendous. Many varieties of interesting drinks. Main meals were all good. The sides were only fair. Brussels sprouts and macaroni were nothing special. Service is good. You can have a long leisurely meal.

Great place… but depends on when you go. If you go there when nobody is around, they offer amazing service. During rush hour, however, its hard to get the waiter’s or the bartender’s attention, but I guess that is common for all bar/restaurants. The head bartender is AMAZING. Ask for the Jedi Mind Trick or my fav, the Whiskey Sangarie. The place has amazing décor and ambience, but the cocktail area does get super packed during rush hour. The food is good, but may or may not be worth the price. For me its right on the edge. Did you know that Elizabeth Taylor got proposed there for one of her marriages?(haha, it would be more special if there weren’t 7 of them) There is an Elizabeth Taylor table there. Also John Wayne used to go to the restaurant often too. This restaurant has amazing pedigree, history, and(more importantly) cocktails. It is on the pricey side however. They also have a whole slew of special events. Go there!

Sometimes, you just want to sit in an old basement and eat a steak. We had been meaning to come to The Cellar for a long while. So when date night rolled around and the place we actually wanted to go to had no reservations until 9:45, we settled for here. I say that in jest of course because we both really enjoyed The Cellar. I’ll start with the cons just to get them out of the way: –Parking can suck, because downtown Fullerton. I know this can’t be blamed on the restaurant, but it always factors into our decision on coming down to this area and it can’t be ignored. –It wasn’t exactly rough finding the place… but it was rough finding the place. There are signs outside that sort of let you know where it is, but it’s basically a matter of going into the courtyard and wandering around until you stumble on it. –A little pricier than I’d like, but it is also a nice restaurant so it’s sort of to be expected. Now for the pros: –Service was excellent. Nice people working here, made the whole experience pleasant. –I enjoy the atmosphere. It’s different than what we’re used to, in a good way. If you’re wondering what kind of atmosphere it has… it’s called The Cellar. That is a hint. Food: –Bread and butter: Good bread. Actual whipped butter. This may seem like faint praise, but it’s surprising how much better I feel about a meal when it doesn’t start with bagged rolls and frozen, wrapped pads of butter. –French onion soup: A decent contender for this category. Good flavor, not too cheesy or runny. Could have been a bit bigger portion-wise. –Caesar salad: It was well dressed, with every leaf having a good amount of dressing and no pooling at the bottom. It was a little disappointing though as it was advertised as having corn and avocado. I’m not sure 3 kernels of corn and two small slices of avocado count. –Chef’s cut: When we were there it was a 6 oz filet with diver scallops, roasted potatoes, asparagus, and a cream sauce. It was all melt-in-your mouth delicious. If you follow my reviews(and really, who would actually want to, I am terrible) you would know I am a sucker for diver scallops. These weren’t the best I have ever had(Napa Rose), but easily the top three. They paired so well with the cream sauce. And the steak was cooked perfectly(my wife even dared to say it was the best steak she has ever had). So overall, good job The Cellar. You win. When I win the lottery, I will come eat at you every day.

I love love love this place and have been coming here for years. Service is always beyond as is the food. But they outdid themselves earlier this month when I took my son for a birthday dinner there. It was such a special night because we were celebrating his 21st! He had his first drink(yes, I believe it’s his first) and everyone was so gracious, our waiter was AHmazing, food excellent as was the champagne. Before leaving we met the owner who took a picture of us for me. I’ve been enjoying this place for years but it was so special to me to celebrate my sons 21st birthday there and even more special with the great service. If you haven’t tried this place, you’re definitely missing out! It’s a MUST, go now!

The Cellar in Fullerton If you want a great experience in a unique, old world setting, this is your place. Located In the basement under Hotel Del Sol, it is a world away from today’s modern restaurants. While I wished for more intimate booths, maybe I should have gotten a reservation. It looks catered to romantic get aways and family size table settings. It’s told, the same person designed it that did the Pirates of the Caribbean in Disneyland. While no waterfalls, you do feel as if you could be in Europe or on a remote island at an establishment that serves fine rum in addition to a wonderful meal. Gotta go at least once in your life.

Great old school french food. It will be expensive and loaded with flavor and calories. The lobster bisque is smooth and flavorful. They have great steaks and wonderfully, fluffy soufflé. The bar area has some smaller food options that are priced well to enjoy while sipping a craft cocktail. The look of the lounge is dark, interesting and loaded with character. It was designed by the same guy who designed the Pirates of the Caribbean. It is located below street level to give it that very exclusive feel to it.

Love the historic, dungeon-like, spooky ambience with awesome décor. I love that this place has so much history, and is a hidden fancy nook in the historic California Hotel plaza in Downtown Fullerton. After living in the area for 25+ years, my family finally decided to try this place. Though the décor was awesome, the pathway into and out of the restaurant was quite dirty. Service was great, however food was subpar. –The shrimps in the cocktail shrimp appetizer were extremely not fresh(it was soft and wilted) and small. –The steak was great, however the side of vegetables that came with it were nothing special… just plain boiled/stirfried assorted vegetables(it was fairly fresh though) –The seafood pasta profencial had mainly small shrimps and very minimal pieces of small squid; the sauce was good but the noodles seemed to be drenched mainly in sauce and minimal seafood. –The soufflé was great; it was not too sweet, which was a perfect ending to our meal.

Came in last week.(Friday night) I had the house salad and the soup.(French onion) the soup was way too cheesy, The salad was bathed in dressing. Horrible dressing! I ordered two cocktail drinks, I requested for them to be double, both drinks were weak. I judged food based upon my salad and my soup. I was afraid the entrée wasn’t gonna be enjoyable. Needless to say I ended up going to In and out

I have been coming here every now and then. Still love it. Atmosphere: Ambience is nice, dark, romantic, good for special occasions and music is pleasant. Server: Our server tonight was Laura, she is awesome. I like the positivity that she brings and she’s very efficient and made my birthday special. Food: This place still amazes me. Like that saying«I just died and went to heaven» that’s how I felt. Very big compliments to the chef. Cost: be ready to spend money because it’s not cheap. But it’s completely worth it for me.

My first impression was, «It’s a really cool concept that you can go underground to a local intimate space and have a nice dinner or just converse over cocktails.» Hands down probably one of my favorite spots to go on a weeknight or weekend for cocktails. The bartenders here are experts at their craft and their cocktail menu is diverse and constantly innovative with seasonal selections. I have had dinners here for special occasions and casual sit downs here to catch up with girlfriends at the bar. Usually the place is filled with Fullerton natives and it’s away from the hustle and bustle of the bars located on the strip that rests in downtown Fullerton. My favorite cocktails and recommended for: — When you want a beautiful tasting and smelling girly drink… Arctic Rose(rose, lemon, basil, sweet sake, rose gin) — When you want to go bold but still enjoy a mixed cocktail with a herbal touch to the senses… Brush Fire(lavender, sage, lemon, honey, and rye whiskey) — When you want something fruity and fresh… Island Sage(sage, pineapple, lime, pomegranate, London dry gin) The lasting impression? «One of my top picks in OC for a cocktail that won’t disappoint.»

Booked dinner here on a whim after my sister recommended it, and I am SOGLAD we did! The food, atmosphere, and service was phenomenal. We booked an earlier reservation(5:30 pm) but didn’t arrive until 6 due to traffic and difficulty finding the restaurant. We walked in and were seated without question! The host actually jokes that it was quite common for others to get a bit confused when trying to find it. We sat down and we were immediately greeted my a very friendly server who was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, and answered our questions about some of their craft cocktails. My husband ordered the 14oz pork chop and I chose the chefs cut which was a 14oz strip cut steak. Both were absolutely delectable! We followed dinner with two soufflés(one vanilla with strawberry anglaise and the second was chocolate with salted caramel anglaise) both of which were probably my favorite part of the meal! Overall this restaurant exceeded our expectations, and left us talking about how amazing it was! We can’t wait to visit again soon.

A friend brought us here for the first time last night and it definitely has a great atmosphere. Kind of feels like you’re on the inside of a ship. Very ‘pirates of the Caribbean’ish as our friend put it. We didn’t order any meals so I can’t attest to the food, but the drinks were definitely on point. If you find yourself at The Cellar’s bar, definitely ask for Paul. He creates some beautiful and tasty cocktails. Super knowledgeable and easygoing. Kind of reminds me of a younger Edward Norton. Maybe it’s the voice? Anyways if you’re looking for a place with a nice atmosphere where you can share some unique drinks with good friends, The Cellar would be it.

Really cool venue in a really cool spot in Fullerton. Perhaps we are spoiled in Vancouver, but we felt starved for trendy or even clean areas to enjoy outside of Disneyland. We were so happy to have found this strip in Fullerton and The Cellar was a great choice. We were celebrating my girlfriend’s birthday and we couldn’t have been happier. We went all out — escargot, bone marrow, lobster bisque, a 16oz sirloin, and an Alaskan salmon for the lady. I was happy to see the escargot was not served in the traditional fashion. The red wine sauce was awesome and the snails were obviously well cleaned. The bone marrow had a sweetness to it which softened the entire experience. I will use something to sweeten it myself in the future. The 16oz sirloin was a very nice piece of meat. It was grilled properly and seasoned well. I never felt starved for flavour which can happen often with restaurants afraid to season their proteins. The Alaskan salmon played second fiddle but not much could compare to over 1lb of meat and charred fat, to be true. For dessert, we ordered her a soufflé which came with a side of crème brûlée on the house for her birthday. Both were phenomenal. You didn’t have to. Glad you did. Stay classy…

Due to what I can only assume is it’s increasing popularity, The Cellar has done away with Happy Hour. You can now only enjoy small bites and drinks at a discount Sun-Thur after 10pm. Boo. Came here for a nice dinner night out, service was extremely good. Courtesy, quick with drink and cleaning our tables without us noticing. Didn’t take too long for our food to come. Food was delicious, we practically clean the plate. I had the 8oz filet mignon and and french onion soup. I’m very big of french onion soup and i could tell it was cooked for a long time for the flavors to develop. My boyfriend had the chefs cut and he said it was the best steak he ever had. Even finished my mignon when I got full.

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here Friday night and we could not have asked for a more perfect dinning experience. We both have experience working in the fine dinning industry and The Cellar met and exceeded all of our expectations! Our server was James and he was excellent! He was the perfect guide to our dinning experience by answering our questions and helping us with the menu. For appetizers we had the French onion soup, house salad and truffle Mac n cheese, all are amazing but the Mac n cheese was to die for! For dinner my husband had the pork chop and I the lamb. The meat was cooked to perfection and paired perfectly with the appointed sides. Overall we had a wonderful time! Due to the price of our bill we won’t be able to make this a weekly visit(although we would love to!) but we will be back soon for happy hour in the lounge!

The Cellar has been a mainstay of Fullerton for over 50 years. The Disney Imagineers used to frequent this location back when Disney was being built. There is a «new» owner, who has owned The Cellar now for at least 11 years. I had always heard about The Cellar for years, but just started frequenting the location very recently. My review is for the bar and bar foods known as «small plates.» I love their bar because they offer a HUGE assortment of drinks. They specialize in «old time» cocktails with recipes that in some cases cannot be found anywhere else. There is probably NOT a cocktail you can ask for that their bartenders cannot make. The small plates I have tried are their truffle macaroni & cheese and their prime rib sandwich(to DIE for). The sandwich is made with a cut of prime rib that must be from 6 to 8 oz before it is cooked. It is placed on sourdough bread with garlic and herbs, a layer of spinach, and Swiss cheese. It is simply AMAZING! It is the PERFECT meal for around $ 20…which leave you more cash to sample their incredible cocktails. The other great part about their drinks: NOICE. Ice is used to shake, stir, and make your drink cold, but NOICE is put into your drink. This means your drink will NOT be watered down. Heaven… just absolute heaven in a glass. Give The Cellar a try. You won’t be sorry!

So disappointed this time! We came here last night because my husband and I were craving a steak and we knew it would be done perfectly here. We started off with the charcuterie plate, which was very good. Then we split our all– time favorite, the chateaubriand! We like our steaks to be medium-rare but sometimes order them rare because many places over cook them. Our server told us that they do a «true medium rare» which was recommended. Steak comes out and I can already see how dry it was while the server was table side cutting it. I was so hungry, I dug in. Omg, my beloved chateaubriand was extremely dry and overcooked! The very middle was the only part salvageable which was a rubbery warm medium/medium well mix. The rest and majority was dry, overcooked, burnt and had a «beef jerky» texture which was rather inedible. Unfortunately, we both left hungry :(. The Mac and cheese and cocktails were good as usual. So bummed! :(

Friends treated me to this restaurant for my birthday and I was thoroughly impressed. I won’t pretend to be an expert on this type of cuisine(which is still pretty new to me), so I’m mostly writing this review to place emphasis on the service which was absolutely top notch and perfect to celebrate a special occasion with good friends. Our server made great suggestions, made us feel comfortable and welcomed, checked up on us often, and the general manager came around to each table to ask how everyone was enjoying their meal. It was only my second time ever trying bone marrow, second or third time trying a bone-in rib eye, and first time ever trying a chocolate soufflé! I enjoyed everything I ordered and am looking forward to returning again to try more from their menu! The dining room was dim-lit, and the décor was unique and amazing(designed and built by the craftsmen who created Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean). Definitely a place to keep in mind to return to for a special occasion or a special date.

What a great experience and perfect way to celebrate my 3 anniversary with my girlfriend. I wanted to try somewhere new and interesting and I was not disappointed! I was recommended The Cellar by a friend and he was spot on in his description. The Cellar is located on Harbor and Wilshire in Fullerton and they have a parking structure with free parking near by. As we descended the stairs, we felt like we were entering a secret Speakeasy during the prohibition. We were met at the door by the host and he was very friendly. We, like smart adults, made reservations. We arrived about 15 minutes early and were seated immediately. We were seated in a booth, the lighting was set perfectly and the setting was very romantic. Our waiter was Paul(I believe) and he was very polite, professional and knowledgeable about the menu. ONTOTHEFOOD!!! I ordered the Soupe du Jour which was French Onion. It was so delicious! There was a piece of bread in the soup that soaked up the flavor and was so scrumptious! My girlfriend and I each ordered the 8oz Filet Minon with mash potatoes and vegetables. The filet was cooked to perfection and was well seasoned and savory. The potatoes were lightly buttered and fluffy, and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. Each of us ordered a side. My girlfriend ordered the macaroni and I ordered the russet potatoes. My girlfriend was ranting and raving the entire time how good her side was. It was topped with breadcrumbs and was indeed really good! I ordered the russet potatoes because fancier restaurant portions are usually a little smaller, but I could have done without them not because they weren’t AMAZING, but because it was just too much food. We ordered the chocolate soufflé with caramel sauce for dessert. It takes about 20 – 30 minutes to make so our waiter Paul asked during our meal if we were planning on eating dessert. This was awesome because after our meal, we only had to wait about 5 – 10 minutes for our dessert. It was so soft and fluffy! The caramel sauce was new for me but was a nice topping. Lastly, because our dinner was for our anniversary we were given the Crème Brûlée on the house. I have never had Crème Brûlée before, but this was a great first time! The caramelized sugar on top was SO good and the custard was was delicious and it was all topped with fresh strawberries. My girlfriend and I both agree that this is the best dinner we have ever had together. We had a great experience here at The Cellar and we will absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a new place to try.

Had a wonderful time dining at the Cellar last night for our anniversary. The service there truly is top notch. We were very well taken care of! The food is really great too. The lobster bisque is a must. For the entrees, both my wife and I had fish since I had just cooked us steak the night before. I’m really looking forward to going back and trying some of their meat dishes. My wife’s sea bass was really tasty. I had a special entrée of Atlantic salmon which was pretty good too. I really like the cool atmosphere. Will definitely dine again. Normally I do not give 5 stars to anyplace on the first visit, particularly if I plan on returning, so I will reserve one star for our second visit and see if the high quality is maintained. The place is a bit pricey, so I want to be sure a 5 star is truly deserved.

Oh, The Cellar has only been around for 45 years… I sure see why! If you’re looking for a cool, speakeasy, underground(literally) vibe, this place is a must. I’m not a drinker and order the best Shirley Temple(made with soda from real sugar & Italian amarena cherries) and Rich — the #1 mixologist in OC created a delish passionfruit mocktini. My husband enjoyed both of his Just Peachy and 30 degrees South libations. Splurge and enjoy the Chef’s special and catch of the day… you can’t go wrong with what the restaurant’s proud of. Thanks for our complimentary anniversary crème brûlée.

My last«meal» would probably be one of their bourbon craft cocktails and their soufflé. A MUST spot for romantic drinks & dessert. We’ve eaten in the dining room once and I wasn’t too impressed with their food BUT their craft cocktails, cheese board, and soufflé are TODIEFOR. When we came back a second time we sat in their bar area which is filled with cozy booths and two top tables. You can’t order dinner in the bar but you can order appetizers and dessert. They didn’t have the cocktail I fell in love with before on their menu, but they were happy to make it anyways. Please try it — it will change your life. It’s called«flower power» — part bourbon, elder flower, fire water bitters, and lemon. Light, a bit spicy, a tad floral, with a pow! of bourbon. The waitress also recommended«a little bit of country» which was bourbon, fire water bitters, and maple syrup — deeelish! And for my alcohol connoisseurs, their mixers to alcohol ratio is spot on, they use single large ice cubes, and the staff has an immense craft cocktail knowledge! They also offer a cheese and charcuterie board with seasonally changing cheeses, rare and unique meats, nuts, fruit, bread, and a bacon onion jam that is mouth watering. Finish your meal off with any of their classic soufflés(order early since they take 20 minutes) and you’ve got a date made in heaven. And if you aren’t «feeling the love» enough — the cellar operates under ground in a dark, candlelit, quiet space that’s décor pays homage to dreamy Venetian caves. Bellissimo!

My friend brought me here for my birthday dinner but forgot to make a reservation. We were told that they may be able to get us in so we sat down at the bar. we were pleasantly surprised to find that it was wine night. That meant that the winds on the menu were half price per bottle. Not ones to let a good deal go by, we ordered a bottle of Chardonnay from the bartender. I don’t remember this guys name but he was wonderfully funny the great personality. We were getting kind hungry waiting for the opportunity to sit down so we ordered a charcuterie plate from the appetizer menu. The starter didn’t disappoint. It had a pâté which is not often included in a cheese and charcuterie plate. There was the requisite prosciutto and salami selections, as well as three cheeses, nuts and dried fruit. The cheeses and meets elections were paired perfectly. It did not feel thrown together at all but shown much consideration for blending flavors.
