Buyer beware. Their contracts are 6 months on the first one, will insist that your rates will not change and that they progress the students based upon skill level. After 3 weeks, they wanted to move my son into the advanced program(of which he was not ready), which would cost almost $ 400 and renew my contract. After pushing back on the instructor he said, «Oh, I didn’t mean now, I meant he’ll be ready in about a month!» By the way, there’s virtually no way out of these contracts unless you force them to change it and write in that you will be let out if requested without penalty. Otherwise, don’t trust them, they will enforce the contract regardless of what they say to you in private. As far as the instruction… ok…but the instructor has a short temper and will yell at parents if they«step on his mat». In our time there, I personally witnessed him yell 2 parents all the way out the front door. The reason for this though, is due to parents being forced to step in due to other kids not following the rules, or just neglect. I watched another father getting progressively more worried, as his son tapped to another student for literally 30 seconds… no exaggeration… and the other student not letting go and 3 «instructors»…not paying attention, even though there was only 3 matches going on in the class at the time. The father understandably stepped in and then got yelled at by the head instructor. Ridiculous! I stepped in to defend him and only got yelled at as well. Another involved a boy going too rough on a girl student. They were supposed to be on a «grappling day», which means no hitting at all. This little boy kept punching, even after instructed a few times«don’t punch». This resulted in a bloody nose and a very upset mother(again understandably). The mother wanted the boy disciplined somehow(push ups, verbal warning, time out, a warning to the parent) something! Instead the instructor said, «This is martial arts… if it is too rough, maybe you should remove your daughter from the school and do gymnastics or something.» After this I was done. In between that and the owner constantly peddling her T-shirts and«daily sales» to the parents while we are trying to watch… No way I was keeping my son in this school. When I tried to cancel, they tried to convince me to stay, offering discounts, or to go to the other location on Teel… after that didn’t work, they stated that I would have to pay out the rest of my contract, which would be about $ 500. We moved to Premier Martial Arts and they are great! No problems, no long term contracts, no angry instructors who yell at parents, no kids getting hurt due to instructor neglect and certainly no owners who make you feel like you are at a swap meet.

We’ve been bringing our kids here for about a year and a half. The instructors are great, the families are great, and I learn a thing or two just watching the kids. Parents can attend the adult class for free, and I hope to do so soon. I know that what my kids are learning will help them be more confident and well behaved children, and hope it sticks with them through their teen years. Oh, and if I forgot to mention, the instructors are GREAT with kids!
