I walked by the shop when it was closed and after looking in the window my expectation was not too high; it was dark but it looked like a very small shop. Well I went back later in the day(yeah I can’t resist a yarn store!) and was pleasantly surprised. The shop was small and I can’t say it was the friendliest shop I’ve every been in but it had some nice yarn. In most of the yarn stores I’ve been in I’ve been greeted when I walk in — at least someone on the staff says hello — but that wasn’t the vibe in this store. I wasn’t acknowledged or spoken to until I was ready to pay. The store was not busy, there was one worker and one woman sitting on a stool talking to her, I assume the woman was a regular customer. Anyway, just didn’t have that warm and cozy feeling most yarn stores have. I ended up purchasing two beautiful skeins of Whimsical Colors hand painted yarns. They yarn is a gorgeous deep blue(jewel tones) in 50% merino 50% silk. I love it! So I would stop in again if I were in Friday Harbor and I’d probably buy something.

sometimes you let the things you love get away from you a little, and i’d gone months without setting foot into a yarn store. after an unsatisfying trip elsewhere i came here, and it was exactly what i needed. the owner is a knitter who sells yarn she dyes herself(it’s gorgeous stuff) along with a wide selection of yarn from other producers. there’s a decent selection of tools, and i loved the books. she had books on toys! i picked up a copy of knitting for anarchists as well as some malabrigo and some of her whimsical colors line. the best part of going to any local yarn store is talking to a knitter about knitting, and she made the appropriate face when i mentioned eyelash yarn. also, my boyfriend thinks she should get bonus points for having a big laid-back(«phlegmatic,» he insists) blonde labrador, but you can’t go higher than five stars. if i ever find myself on the island again, i will definitely be back. it’s a great shop.

I love this place because they carry my favorite crochet hooks, Addi. They have lots of scrumptious wools in gorgeous colors. It’s my first stop in Friday Harbor.
