This tiny airport manages to be both luxurious and user friendly all at the same time. Parking is right by the door. Arriving 30 – 45 minutes prior to flight time is just fine. The planes are so small that they’ll ask your weight, and ask the customers who would like to be the co-pilot. If that’s you, then you’ll ride right up front next to the pilot. The Terminal where you get your boarding pass is approximately 30 to 40 feet from the gate. The gate is a ground floor glass door. From there you walk across the Tarmack old style, and up a little flight of steps to board your plane. Luggage goes in the wing, even your carry-ons. Since the plane holds 10 people including the pilot, think of it like as a Disneyworld ride. The views are arresting. Flying at perhaps 8,000 feet, this is the way to see the San Juan islands and Puget Sound in all their glory. There is one downside, the engine hum is so loud that you can’t possibly have a conversation, but there’s so much to see, why would you want to? Oh, And there’s no drink service or food — obviously. These little planes get tossed around by the winds and bad weather so if you’re prone to airsickness, do the rest of us a favor and take the ferry.
