I had sclerotherapy performed at ULLS on August 19th and 20th and it was a disaster. It is two months later and I still have two full-thickness skin ulcerations that are being treated by another vein doctor in Fresno and two dark scars where two other ulcerations have healed. I believe Lance did not have enough experience to perform this treatment. I believe the sclerotherapy certificate in his office was from June or July, so he had really just learned this procedure. The nurse at the office I am going to now said she only performed sclerotherapy with the doctor by her side for a full year before trying it by herself. It is a caustic solution that is injected into the veins and in my case the solution went directly into my tissue and created these ulcers. It is going to take six full months or more to heal these ulcers and then there will be scarring. The doctor I am seeing now said I may even need skin grafting if the larger one does not pull together. Needless to say, despite the fact that Lance means well and is a nice person, in my opinion he is not experienced enough to perform this procedure. Not only that, but Dr. Work, whom Lance works under, did not know how to treat the ulcers. He looked at them and said, «They’ll be fine. Leave them open once they stop oozing. God will heal them. Call me if they get worse.» This was not very reassuring. I’ve been seen about once a week since then at the office that is now treating me. They are being very diligent in caring for the wounds and ensuring they don’t become infected, which is still a possibility. They should not be left open, as Dr. Work had suggested, but should be covered and kept moist. Again, in all fairness to Lance, he did refund the money I paid for the procedure, but this was not a good experience at all and the scars from this procedure will probably look worse than the veins I was trying to have treated. Live and learn!
