Wonderful delights that are reasonably priced. Whenever I want to spoil myself, I love coming here, and picking up some sweets! I also buy mochi here as gifts for people. They sell other types of decadents too, but I’m not familiar enough with names to be able to label them. They sure are tasty though. Great place, still being ran by the family.

I haven’t even been here and I’m giving it 5 stars but I hear a lot of good things from my friends and their approval gets my approval! So I’ll definitely be trying it out even though it’s almost 2 hours away!

Very good, bordering on outstanding Japanese confections, in particular the manju. Done in both traditional style, and modern using fresh fruit from the Valley. Many varieties are as good as, or better than Tokyo!!!

This place is awesome! The lady that helped us was so sweet and had us try the chocolate Mochi with macadamia nut toffee. AMAZING! Can’t wait to try the Mochi strawberry ice cream that we got as well!!!

I love this place & I love that it’s family owned. With its rich history & sweet handmade Mochi, this place is a must stop. So much better than stuff you find in the frozen aisle. The Mochi is soft and easy to eat. This place is cash only. Parking is free! It might be a bit hard to spot but it’s a small store front. Lol This place is definitely a gem. :)

Third generation family owned shop. They sell shaved ice, ice cream, and their specialty: mochi — Japanese sweet rice flour treats. These come in traditional flavor a such as plain, sweet, unfilled or filled with azuki(sweet red bean paste). They also have fruit flavors and green tea. We were driving through 99 and stopped here to pick up an assortment. These will make great road trip snacks as well as gifts for our neighbors. The shop also sells a variety of Japanese novelty items for house décor, liquor, etc. Tips: to make sure you have the best selection come before the shop closes at 4PM. Once their inventory goes there’s no restocking until a new batch is made the next day!

Found this place randomly and I couldn’t be more happy that I did. They have the best shaved ice in fresno! Selection isn’t very big, but that doesn’t matter because the flavors were amazing. The atmosphere of the shop is different than most places. I will be coming back

Although the store was divey, this small takeout Japanese dessert place is a Fresno gem and is worth visiting for their famous hand made Mochi filled Ice cream and Manju. The taste of their mochi is really how it was when I tried in Japan which here means they are really authentic to the real thing. The FREE street parking is easy to find here, please know that the store is not properly labeled, so don’t be shocked if you don’t see it right away, your GPS did get you to the right place. This place is CASH only, but don’t worry this place is so affordable, with ice cream filled mochi priced at $ 2.50 each. So plan to bring $ 5-$ 20 here in cash. There are no place to sit and eat in here, its strictly takeout only. Don’t expect a proper store when you first get in, expect seeing some random plants for sale, some Japanese ornaments for sale too and then finally on the left you would see the mochi and manju. The price of each Mochi filled with ice cream is $ 2.50, they have: strawberry, cookies and cream, azuki beans and corn on the day I visited. They also sell snow cone and manju for $ 1.25. The flavors might change, so call first if you have a preference and would like to know your choices. The mochi filled ice cream was delicious, I would let it thaw for 10 minutes before eating because it is frozen. Once thawed the ice cream inside would still be solid while the outside(rice cake) soft and springy. The first bite is just awesome, that chewy, soft texture and slight chills from the ice cream really brings back memories of my trip to Tokyo having this same dessert. The strawberry ice cream and the cookies and cream ice cream were both unique tasting and complimented the rice cake outer layer. This is a definite unique treat from Japan that is hard to come by. For mochi lovers this is your place to come.

Their mochi ice cream is delicious! Home made and better than the boxed types. Flavor enriched in every bite. Have yet to try their other flavors.

This place is incredible. Homemade Mochi. Been around 100 years and it was my first time in there today. I am shocked by the quality and the fact that a place like this exists in Fresno. They make their own syrups for snow cones. This is a gem.

I wish there was a government program that would declare restaurants heritage sites in order to help preserve them for future generations. Kogetsu-Do would be tops on my list if such a thing existed. This family owned business has been around since 1915 and has been in its current location since 1920. There was a period during World War 2 where the family had to halt operations because they were sent of to an internment camp in Arkansas. During that time the business was rented out to a Chinese merchant who was friends with the family. The recipes being used today are 100 year old family secrets. The owner still uses the same equipment her grandparents used. Kogetsu-Do oozes in history. The manju/Mochi is a bit gooier than I’m accustomed to. The manju envelop traditional fillings like red bean paste or white bean paste but I absolutely fell in love with the more modern macadamia nut toffee filled manju. It was a ridiculous sensory experience for your mouth. The chocolate with the gooey Mochi melted pleasantly over the tastebuds while the toffee and macadamia nuts added another dimension with their crunch. Go out of your way to patronize this historic business and try one of their new creations! Love that they stick with the traditional stuff but also try to stay relevant with new recipes. That macadamia nut toffee Mochi was one of the best desserts I’ve ever tasted.

Let’s start out by talking about what I like about Fresno. (silence)… (more silence)… Until a month ago, that’s what you would get out of my mouth, but now I can proudly say that when I come here, I have to pick up a dozen or two of some of the best manju I have ever had since I was a kid in Japan. Well, I really never remembered having manju as a kid, but you get what I mean. My favorite ones are with fruit fillings, skip the cake like ones. I just could not get used to the texture of the cake next to the bean filling. Don’t be afraid of the security guards posted outside their doors, they are cleverly disguised as homeless people who are down on their luck asking for money.

This hole in the wall, Family owned Mochi/Manju shop is located in the heart of Downtown Fresno. Convenient, free street parking is available directly in front of the shop. I’ve been here a few times now and there is always handmade Mochi Ice Cream available, although the flavors usually vary each time. They never seem to run out of Vanilla Mochi Ice Cream, which isn’t bad if you just like your Mochi IC plain. The only Mochi which I probably wouldn’t get again is the Mochi Sorbet. For $ 2.25/piece, I’d rather spend those bucks on the Mochi IC rather than the Sorbet. The Ice cream just seems to taste better with the Mochi dough. I’ve also tried their homemade Manju which was also delicious but I didn’t care too much about the blueberries inside since it made the taste quite sour to my taste buds. I asked the owner if there’s a similar Manju/Mochi shop in the San Jose area, but she recommended that I get the Mochi Ice Cream from Costco or Trader Joe’s. Friendly service+mouthwatering Mochi= I will definitely be back for more Mochi. Cons: –Cash only –Inconsistent w/the Mochi Ice Cream flavors(I hear they have Nutella but I have yet to try it here)

Saw this place on Unilocal a long time ago, but I never actually tried it until I happened to be in the area a couple days ago! Kogetsu-Do is literally a hole in the wall! It might look shabby, but boy their Mochi/Manju is so goooooood! It’s so soft and just really cute! It’s also about $ 1 – 2 so it’s really cheap too! My favorite is the peach! Do yourself a favor and check this place out!!! Don’t be afraid!!! The whole family that has owned this place for 100 years is really cute too! Update: just tried their chocolate Mochi filled with strawberry cheesecake ice cream! 10⁄10 can I give this place 6 stars?

Great, local and old school type of place in Fresno to find handmade ice cream Mochis. It’s pretty amazing to step in here, and notice that this place has not changed over the course of the 100 years that they have been open. The Mochis here are pretty big(about the size of my palm) and are really cheap at only $ 2 each. These things taste great, and you can definitely tell it has been made fresh from scratch, unlike the processed ones from the store. They also serve shave ice, and other sweets like Manju, which I have not tried yet but look really good. The owner here is pretty friendly as well, and will always make sure you are getting help. I don’t think I can give them a full 5 stars though, due to the cash only policy, limited hours(closes at 4pm), and limited selection of ice cream Mochis anytime after 2pm(make sure to call in advance!), but at the same time it’s understandable, considering the owner here is practically the only employee so I don’t wanna knock them down too far for that.

If you’re in downtown and you love mochi… You’ve got to try this place. Luckily they were open on a Sunday. The location is random and it’s not the most glamorous but the mochi was delicious! You can’t find something like this in Fresno. The mochi is huge. It’s the size of my palm for $ 2! My bf and I had to split it. We got the chocolate strawberry cheesecake and strawberry. At the end it does get too much mochi w/the proportion but every one will be unique since it’s handmade and nonetheless delicious. So glad I stopped by. Something new, fresh … I’m sold. Buy local!
