One of the best greasy spoons I have ever been in. Mark(owner and cook) is exactly what a diner owner should be. Fast service, extremely large portions, low cost, just plain good.

Best spot for breakfast in town. Great service from the entire staff with reasonable prices. Biscuits and gravy are my favorite. A whole order of home fries will fill you up alone.

Whitey’s has a great set of breakfast options — go for«The Bubba» if you really want a variety of tastes. Their home fries are excellent and the servers do a great job making you feel at home. Say hi to Mark — tell him one of «Mindy’s brothers» sent you! :-) Carol is a friendly waitress, even scared me up a copy of The Blade! The coffee cup will never be empty unless you want it to be! If you’re interested, there’s a nice article about the place here:

Just what was needed after a long night, greasy sausage, hash browns and eggs. Get here before the church crowd

Maybe I went to a different Whitey’s… I was in town for a day in early July, and asked locals where to eat breakfast. I was enthusiastically referred to Whitey’s by three people, so I went. I like local as much as the next guy. I like diners as much as the next guy. I ordered coffee, OJ, the veggie omelet, mushrooms on the side, and a breakfast pastry. When I ordered the side of ‘shrooms, the waitress said, «Now you know they’re from a can…» I was committed to breakfast fiber, so I said«No problem,» thinking, how bad can it be? When I ordered the pastry, she said«Now you know it’s not a cinnamon roll; it’s a fruit pastry.»(I’m not sure she actually used the semicolon, but let’s say she did…) I said«No problem.»(NOTETOSELF: when the wait staff WARNS you about the food — RUN!) Coffee and OJ were fine. The omelet was generously large, with lots of melted cheese inside. «Veggie» translated to canned mushrooms(in all fairness, I’d been warned) and a couple slices of tomato. The side of ‘shrooms were a small plate generously heaped with canned ‘shrooms(again, I’d been warned). The pastry had been heated on the grill — it tasted like grill. And there were black gristle bits stuck to the bottom. And it was tasteless, at that(aside from the taste of yesterday’s grilled whatever). But the coffee was good… I left thinking that I could make a killing in Fremont opening up a diner that served fresh mushrooms. Or pastry. And I was punished throughout the day for choosing aforementioned canned mushrooms. Never again! Remember the ‘shrooms of 7⁄2!

Whitey’s was very good. The veggie omelet was well crafted. My companion liked her French toast and eggs. The potatoes were excellent, and the locally-sourced sausage was very tasty. I’d give Whitey’s five stars, but the coffee was lackluster at best.

My friends and I stopped by Whitey’s on a long drive to the Notre Dame game in South Bend, IN from Boston College in Massachusetts. We stumbled upon it by chance and LOVEDIT. Everyone was so friendly and the food was amazing and extremely affordable. Whitey’s is a real classic local diner and by time my friends and I finished lunch we felt like we were a part of the family. We even took a picture with the owner! I’ll be sure the upload the picture… We miss you Whitey’s!!!

A diner for sure! 1 room with small counter and cook right there! The food was great, sausage locally made just for them, but the seasoning is definitely in the grill! Great hole in the wall!

First, I must thank Bill for reminding me of Whitey’s. This place is amazing. It was a weekly event to go there when I lived/worked in Fremont. Their hamburgers are monstrous. They’ve got to be 1lb and fill the entire plate. Don’t even think of eating it without a knife and fork. They’ve also got a sausage breakfast sandwich that is about the same size. Might have to make a trip back!

When I dream of a glorious breakfast… It has to be Whitey’s Diner in Fremont! I’ve made the 100 mile journey there more than once just to have their fantistic home fries, savory sausage. I have never been dissappointed by the quality and the quantity(which is always more than ample) but just for kicks I’m going to ask to have it SUPERSIZED! I may need a suitcase instead of a doggie bag!
