Came in around I PM as I was looking for authentic Afghan food. Found this place through GPS. I ordered the Beef Kobabas and rice, the food was delicious. I also got a free cold drink, a green tea cup and their custard rice sweet dish all for under $ 10. This cannot be beat. The lady also asked me to sample all of her buffet dishes after which I did not need to have dinner that night in Hayword. Parking is plenty in this mini Mall.

Food is quite good. The people running the place not only have no idea how to run a restaurant, they possibly have never been to a restaurant. But laugh it off and enjoy the food.

Friendly service and delicious food from what appears to be a family-run restaurant. I happened to be in their shared parking lot this past Friday night and saw their sign and as I am a fan of Afghan food, I decided to try their menu. They have good to fair prices and the food was delicious. I tried their chicken qorma, potato bolagni, and a side of naan. Each tasted great; a note on the naan, it is not a buttery naan. I found that oddly refreshing and healthier. It definitely had a clay oven authentic taste. Please support this portion of your community and give them a try.

I like looking for good afghan restaurants in the vicinity, and my exploits took me to Surobi one fine weekend. While I was impressed with the chicken kabob and eggplant borani, the staff’s friendly, personal service made this dining experience really memorable. Looking forward to trying other items on their menu on my next visit!

Pleasantly surprised by the food and price. I think overall the staff is friendly and attentive. During my first trip to Afghan Palace, I eat buffet, which included a 8 dish selection(chicken and veggie dishes) and wheat soup(I highly recommend this if available). At first, I was a little unsure about trying this place because not many people were dining at the time, but I was surprise after being serviced and eating their food. I will be returning many more times.

Came here for lunch at 3:00 pm and we had 2 chicken wrap sandwiches and an eggplant dish. The food was delicious and reasonably priced! The waitress was very sweet and we were the only ones in the restaurant at that time of day. She explained that they have recently re-opened the restaurant and will be adding more items to the menu. Although the décor is rather bland at this point, I will be back!

I love Afghan food and one of my favorite restaurants serves very similar options across the bay — but they do it much better, I’m sad to say. I ordered delivery(for a $ 7 surcharge) — for an appetizer of bollanee, an entrée of mantoo, a diet coke and small serving of baklava, which came out to $ 36. Are you kidding me? I might have been less taken aback if the quality stood up to the prices, but it did not. The bollanee was pretty much a wasted order, as it’s really just a bunch of bread(kind of like a pita) with a very thin layer of undercooked chopped potato in between — and not so much the pastry they describe. I tossed most of it. The mantoo is one of my favorite dishes elsewhere so I was excited at the prospect of finding a more convenient location that serves it… but alas, it was a let-down. The meat quality is very low and the dumpling itself was falling apart and just not good. The baklava was surprisingly tasty, I’ll give them that. But for what’s advertised as a 20oz bottle of soda, I was given a 12oz can(for $ 2.50) which is just ridiculous. I found this place overpriced, disappointing and wouldn’t try them again.

Came here for Lunch. The food was good but the service was a little slow. My daughter had the beef wrap sandwich which she enjoyed, it was pretty big. I had the beef kebob but it didn’t come with any bread or rice that you have to add extra to your meal. Both dishes had good flavor. It’s definitely a mom and pop kind of place. Not to sure about the décor but I’m there for the food. The server did mention that they’re going to add more items on their menu pretty soon. So I guess we’ll have to go back to give it a try.

Being an afghan I know what good afghan food tastes like. And this place is great. Not only is the food great but the prices beat any other afghan restaurant. The mantoo was straight homeade. The chicken kabob was juicy and not over cooked. The rice was fresh. Go here guys you won’t regret it.

I went to Surobi at 5:00 on a Wednesday afternoon to order takeout after seeing a flyer left on my windshield. The place was empty and the door was locked when I arrived and a lady inside came to the door to greet me. I asked if they were closed and she said they weren’t and let me in. I ordered a total of 4 dishes, which miss lady went to the back and prepared herself in 15 minutes. The food itself was pretty good. I ordered the mantoo and eggplant dishes as appetizers, and both weren’t bad although both were a little heavy on the yogurt sauce. Eggplant was a bit under seasoned. The beef koobidah was also good. Not the best I’ve ever had but still appetizing and relatively tender. Lamb curry was delicious but for $ 13, the portion was pretty small. This is meat-only. Wish there were some veggies in there to add to the size of the dish. Things that need improving: –Store hours. There are no hours posted in the window and they look closed, with doors locked, even when they’re supposedly open. –Limited menu. The menu on their website is much more extensive, and therefore misleading. The food is decent and the lady helping me was friendly and very accommodating. I’ll return to try them again in a few months after they get into the groove of the business. They’re still pretty new so there’s room for improvement, but Surobi definitely has potential.

I too was skeptical about lunch here at first because place was empty. But the staff was very nice. I ordered the following: Chicken kabobs– wow! They were very tender and flavorful. Better than… dare I say it… De Afghanan. Chicken korma– juicy stew that goes great with their fluffy Afghan rice Mantu– delicious. But get this if you like onions because the dumplings are filled with cooked beef and raw onions Chicken kofta– really good also Beef kofta– okay but I don’t usially eat kofta Meal came with warm Afghan bread. Really would like to see this place get more busy. The food was very good. I hear they have a buffet too!

My review is very limited. I went there today for lunch to meet up with some friends. Turns out the place was closed. No sign to indicate something was wrong. Their website says that they are open Mon-Sat and open for lunch at 11am. So we went to a nearby halal Chinese place around the corner. After lunch there, I checked again and they were still closed. Too bad. I was looking forward to trying Afghan cuisine. I’ve only had it once before. Next time, I’ll call ahead to make sure that they are open before driving over there.

This restaurant is located behind shops, gas stations, and stripe mall. The tables in this restaurant seats ten or more. No small tables. Their 8.99 lunch special is generous in proportion and the beef kabob is well seasoned. The rice is topped off with paprika along with a side salad. It’s yummy and too bad does not get enough traffic. I would try this place again for sure!

Really friendly service but the food was just alright. The portions are smaller compared to the other places that are around. They have a huge space for parties and banquets.

I hate to give a 1-star review but in this case I have no choice. Wanted to order take out, looked over their website and saw that they are open Mon-Sunday til 9 and do offer takeout. Called around 7 p.m. Saturday, lady on the other line seemed confused when I said I wanted to place an order to go, put the phone down and asked someone else who said to take my number and they’ll call me back. Wtf? Woman gets back on the phone and says«ma’am, sorry but we’re closed tonight.» Great. Talk about disappointed, I’m Afghan and can cook Afghan food and rarely do I go to an Afghan restaurant, but I didn’t feel like spending hours making bolanee and manto, especially after working all day. Very disappointed with the way they handled the call and level of service, I wanted to argue but I just said«oh, you’re closed? Okay thank you.» Fail! FYI don’t answer the phone if you’re «closed.»

Went here for a supper shortly after they opened. It’s in one of those doomed locations that change owners frequently. The room seems set up for events, as most of the tables are round with six seats. Bolanee appetizer: nicely done, thick with chunks of potatoes inside. Surobi Lamb: Rice with sumac and a small bowl of lamb in sauce for $ 14. The lamb was ok quality but the portion was kind of small(and I am not a Claim Jumper size-plate eater). If it was $ 10 I wouldn’t feel bad about the size. No veggies included, which makes it a bit sparse. Aushak: Well done leek dumplings, small chickpeas on top with a nice yogurt sauce. Service was fine, but we were the only ones dining for most of the night(do we get bonus Unilocal points for brave dining?). Beware, some of the items on the Vegetarian menu have a yogurt meat sauce. Overall, I’d stick with Afghan Village or Salang Pass nearby for Afghan food unless you’re in the area.

Brand new restaurant that replaced the Persian place that was always empty before. Went here for dinner around 5 in the evening and it was totally empty. The furniture and the décor look really old. Looks like these folks are first focusing on the food and I have no complaints with that. The food was really good. The chicken koobideh kabob and the mantoo were delicious. The owners seem super nice. I wish them all success. I hope more people discover this place and they go on to upgrade the décor and furniture as well so I can bring more people here.

I came here to eat with my family on a Sunday night. This place had recently opened 2 days ago so I decided to try it out. I love Afghan food because their meats are for the most part pretty high quality and lean. I ordered the chicken kabob, and it was delicious. I also had a salad, bolani(which is a bread) and dumplings. Soooo good. You have to try the Bolani and dumplings when you are there. Parking is also really easy to find because it is not a busy plaza. The place inside feels very homely. It is quiet, but the restaurant looks like it can hold up to 100 people. It seems like it is good for weddings, engagement parties, etc. I really liked the food and will be going there again to try other things on the menu. The waitress was also really nice and super helpful. She was genuinely sweet and nice. Price point is also reasonable. My chicken Kabobs was $ 12 and you get rice, tomatoes and good amount of chicken.
