This is for Veronica Perata. Years ago she was given the job of selling my house in Fremont. When we signed papers, we asked her to put the house on the market the next day. She lagged, and did not list it until one month later, thereby missing the window of opportunity that summer. During the time it was on the market, she never brought anyone to see it. Sometimes she cancelled open houses with less than 24 hours notice. Two of my neighbors told me that sometimes she opened up the house for a tour, and then left. This allowed items to be stolen from our house, including an attempt to steal patio furniture, which, fortunately, was too heavy for the thieves to carry, but, unfortunately, they dropped and broke. On two occasions we came home after an open house and found our back gate open and our dog running up and down the street. On another occasion, our son’s model railroad set had been broken. One time, we came home after an open house to find the shower in the spare bathroom had been used, the towels wet! One weekend we had a buyer, but Mrs Perata could not be reached, either by the buyer’s agent, the owner of the brokerage she worked for, or us. They ended up buying another house in the same neighborhood. Another time, we had a buyer, but that one could not qualify for a mortgage. We took the house of the market, as by then it was winter. Later, we listed it with someone else who sold it without any open houses, and no property theft or damage.
