Finding this place is one of the great reasons I love Unilocal! Thanks to everyone who posted useful reviews. Anyway, I was looking for a new restaurant for a family Valentine’s Day dinner. I love Thai food and had not had good Malaysian/Singaporean style cooking in a while. I had high expectations and was not disappointed in the least. Everyone loved everything they ordered. I will just go down the list… Kung Fu Girl Riesling — I never heard of this wine but had to try it. A wonder Riesling and a good complement to the meal as advertised. BBQ chicken satay — a favorite of my daughter. She loved it. Not better than the typical Thai satay, just different in a delicious way. Malay sizzling black pepper chicken — tender chicken made this meal special. I loved the spices, the flavor, everything. I am a big black pepper fan and this dish delivered. Roti prata — sweet bread with the perfect dipping sauce. My son and I chowed down. I would have made a meal out of it if I hadn’t needed the space for the other culinary delights. Red curry lamb — my wife loved this one. I don’t eat red meat so I can’t add more flourishing words. She promised to write her own review. :) Tai pou chicken — fried chicken with a unique flavor. Much better than standard fried chicken that kids usually eat. I wish I could get this chicken all the time to satisfy their insatiable desire for chicken nuggets. Everyone loved this one. Asam okra — a guilt free way to enjoy my veggies. Full of wonderful flavors including bell peppers and tomatoes. I am a huge okra fan and this hit the spot! Overall, Mango Garden is a complete winner. I can’t wait to go back and try more items on the menu. I MUST try that Pineapple fried rice. One of my favorite dishes of all time. I really had to fight hard not to order it for this first visit but there were so many fascinating offerings, I had to go outside my knowledge zone. I thoroughly enjoyed this eating experience.

After reading the good reviews for Mango Garden, we were really disappointed. Having eaten Malay, Thai and Singaporean food before I was really disappointed by what we got. Our order of gado-gado was ok. The pineapple fried rice were pretty bland — despite us having asked for spicy. Having eaten it at a number of other places, this just didn’t make the cut and I would not recommend it. It’s quite possible that we got unlucky and got a poor quality preparation, but my experience was disappointing enough to keep me away and from giving it another shot.

This place rocks! Go here now! I came in with a group of 6 about 45 minutes before closing and they really took care of us! Great service and awesome tasting food!!! Super clean, great ambiance and lots of seating. Oh, and what an awesome value too! We ordered like 10 items of the menu, but I can say they were all really really good! You must try: Garlic eggplant Pineapple fried rice(unique!!!) Pad Thai(super unique here too) Green curry vegetables Tofu salad Mango sticky rice(duh!) Thank you MANGOGARDEN for rocking our socks off on our first visit! We’ll definitely be back. * By the way, many other reviews said they had«slow service» here, however, we received quick and really awesome service! Guess it depends when you visit. We had a server named Chris, and he was so helpful and happy! An asset to the restaurant for sure!(They all were, just didn’t catch names)

It is a crowded place so prepare to wait in the line. The service can be slow especially when it is busy. The staff was however always friendly. Food was good. We ordered Indian Mee Goreng Noodle, Rendang Beef, Yu Sang-the New Year special of Malaysia, and Mango Sticky Rice.

Great place to grab lunch or even dinner. Lots of families on the weekend. Their Roti and satay chicken are great! Unless you prefer chewy meat, I recommend their satay chicken over beef. Very friendly and polite staff. They generally take turns checking up on their customers to make sure our food comes out in a timely manner. They always talk to their customers with a smile on their face. If you want pad Thai, be prepared to share! It’s honestly enough for two people unless you have a very huge appetite. They close their kitchen promptly at 2:30 after the lunch rush. But this doesn’t stop families from coming in last minute to order takeout. 5% discount if you pay with cash. Don’t forget to check in with Five Star! To check in, walk up to the cashier and input your phone number. Five check ins is equivalent to one free entrée 12.95.

Saw a rat running around the dining room floor. Told the folks at the counter but they didn’t seem surprised or disturbed. Never went back.

–Service was good and relatively quick –Pineapple fried rice was my favorite dish. It seemed to have a ketchupy flavor, but tasty nonetheless –Food was good, but the portion size for some dishes were surprisingly small for the price –Some dishes were a bit too salty for our taste –Sarang seafood dish(the taro nest) didn’t look like the picture on the menu. The taro was sort of compacted and shaped into a bowl and then deep fried rather than the typical light, airy, and crispy taro bowls from other places. The veggies were a bit overcooked(soft and dull colored). At about $ 16, this dish was the biggest disappointment. –Waiter was polite but seemed annoyed. Not a problem, but it would’ve been nice if he had even the slightest hint of a smile. All the waitresses that came by were very friendly. I probably will not be coming back. The food was good enough, but not for the price.

This was awesome! Quit reading this review and just go. Right now, go and trust me on this. For details(wasting your time, you could be going), see below. Went after work with a colleague. We got here maybe at 6:30 and the place was filling. When we left, it was packed. Definite sign of a good and popular place. The host was quick and friendly and the waiters were very professional, prompt and attentive. I will never see my 50th birthday again, so I was bemused when they asked for my ID. The piña colada was the perfect drink for this place and well made. We started off with the roti prati and the green papaya salad. The Roti was awesome. It was a fluffy pastry, not like the normal bread. This is light for two people. If eating a lot, split it. If not, go single portion each. The green papaya salad was a slap your face explosion of favors. The pickled papaya struck you suddenly and if you get a slice of pepper, it ends with a facial explosion. If you like bold favors go for it. I liked trying it, but wouldn’t do it again. They also dropped off a free app which was super nice. I didn’t get the name, but it may have been a shrimp cake. It looked like a sandwich with papaya salad. If you see it, order it! The entrees come out shareable for the table. Each feed two people. We had two between us so there was a ton of food. I ordered the mango chicken and loved it. Very sweet and the peppers were perfect and the chicken could not have been cooked better. My buddy ordered the Malay sizzling black pepper chicken. Very succulent and savory. Another great choice. One thing to note is the entrees were lonely. If you were expecting something like rice with it(like we were) — it doesn’t show. Wish we ordered the pineapple fried rice with it. If you’re still reading(and not racing to this place), then pay attention to this one: order the rice!

Ordered roti, laska and Hainan chicken. Overall taste was average. Roti was delicious, Laska was not tasteful and it has 2 kinds of noodle and strange ingredients. Hainan chicken was alright but not typical hainan, just regular. Overall atmosphere was nice and elegant until they served water in plastic cups using a glass pitcher with lemon water. An interesting combine. They have togo chopsticks which is awesome due to sanitary reasons but does not fit into their elegant atmosphere. Overall service was awesome! Friendly servers! Another interesting thing is few of the servers are preparing satay sticks a couple tables away from us. I thought food preparation should be done inside the kitchen? This is the reasons they will a 3 stars.

Decided to try this place with a friend based on the good Unilocal reviews. Maybe we didn’t order the«right» dishes because what we ordered did not taste anything like Thai food. I know their menu says they serve other types of Asian food, but the two dishes we ordered was not good. It tasted like cheap wannabe Chinese food. The server was attentive, but too attentive. It was irritating that she kept interrupting our meal to check if everything was okay, but never once offered to refilled water. However, their roti prata was delicious.

Mango garden is probably one of the better malaysian restaurants in the bay area. What I like about mango garden? Comfortable environment, complimentary soup/appetizers/dessert, super yummy satay! Yes, their satay is the bomb! So far I can’t find any other places in the bay area that serve such good satay. The satay sauce is just addicting. I have tried many of their dishes at different times, and they were all pretty decent. I especially like their santan salmon. The sauce was very good. The dish that I think can be improved was coffee short ribs. It was sweet and lacked the coffee flavor. Overall it is a very decent place. I do recommend mango garden if you want some good malaysian food. And of course, don’t forget to order the satay!

Malaysian for dinner. Great service, very nicely appointed dining room. Interesting experience as I explore another cuisine. So I get the impression this place crosses a couple ethnic lines regarding the food… as i ordered the Hainan Chicken I was somewhat amused as the waitress tried to steer me away from it. cause most white guys don’t care for it… That sold me on it, I went for an order of Mee Siam as well. The complimentary Roti Prata was made amazing by the awesome Curry sauce. The chicken was bone in. cut up(with no regard to how most people cut up a chicken) in trying to identify the pieces by the meat and bone, I’m not sure if put together what this chicken might look like. It was however good and with the chili sauce and ginger sauce made even better. The Mee Siam was very tasty as well, not much on a distinct flavor but good. There was something unidentifiable in it… I’ve posted a pic perhaps someone will know. A good meal, the service only lacked in the ability to get a refill on my water…

When my roommate told me she had a good place to take me to for dinner I would have NEVER thought the food would have been that DANG good! I walked in hungry but O0O let me tell you I walked out FULLL! We arrived here on a Thursday evening and thankfully it wasn’t busy at all. My roommate had warned me that this place gets crowded and I was starving so waiting for food was just NOT an option. We were seated right away and after a while I knew what I wanted. WEORDERED: ~Curry Oxtail-There is no words to describe how good this was! Oxtails at a Thai restaurant! WTF Word??! I was shocked but I was even more shocked when I had my first oxtail and was licking my fingers! OMG! I WASGOINGIN! I was sucking the bone like it was the last meal on earth! OMGGGGG!(GIVEMEMORE). ~Fish Head– I love how they serve it. I was thinking it was going to be served literally as a Fish Head but luckily it wasn’t. They cut it up and serve it in some bomb sauce. I wasn’t really into all the bones it had so I left it to my roommate to eat it. ~Pineapple Fried Rice– HELLAGOOD! I mean it was BOMB.COM type of good! It had peanuts, raisins, shrimp and of course pineapples in it. It was so bomb I almost ate the whole thing and forgot about my roommate who had yet to have some. FOODONTHEHOUSE: ~Roti– It was ok. Not the thick bread that I’m accustomed to but it was good. The sauce that comes on the side was delicious! ~Strawberry Shaved Ice Cream– It was totally the BEST ending to the meal(You must get it). I almost ate the whole bowl and once again forgot about my roommate that was seating right across from me! HAHA I think I heard her whisper, «You might as well take the whole bowl and eat from the bowl». HAHA(Opps, sorry roomie, maybe next time). MORALOFTHESTORY: If you haven’t been here yet, you DON’T know what you’re missing! Thanks to my roommate that brought me here and thanks to the cooks in the back for making some good ol’ oxtail that had me licking my fingers and STILL thinking about the food that I devoured! That oxtail will definitely be the reason why I will be returning back!

It was a Thursday evening and I was in the mood for something different. We were in the Mission San Jose area in Fremont and happened upon this busy restaurant that we’ve driven by before but never gave it a try. Well, today was our lucky day! We parked, walked in, was greeted by the owner and was seated immediately. We ordered the Oxtail Curry, Pineapple Fried Rice and Tom Yum Soup. The tenderness of the oxtail in the curry was nicely flavored by the spices. Pineapple rice was a hit from the start! It could’ve been a meal in itself. The Tom Yum soup… perfectly tart! If you’re looking for a Big City type of restaurant in the suburbs, go to Mango Garden with all of it’s glitz and tasty food. FULLBAR!!! I’ll definitely be back!

My girlfriend and I went in here after hiking mission peak in the rain ! We were drenched in water but they didn’t seem to mind, our shoes were muddy and we looked horrible but we still got great customer service. Only issue I had was that the menu doesn’t include all the ingredients in the dishes. I have food allergies and on a restricted diet so it was little frustrating trying to figure out what had sugar or is gluten free, however outside of that everything was amazing. They were helpful with answering all my questions. We ate *Roti Parata(so yummy, with curry dipping sauce) *Noodle dish(chicken, tofu & shrimp, we got it spicy, super flavorful) *Satay Chicken & Beef Satay(cooked perfectly !) *Friend Banana(huge portion, deep fried banana with ice cream!) *Snowflake(Snow dessert, extremely good-not heavy) The highlight was having a fresh young coconut ! I love fresh coconut water ! The service was really good. This was my first time and excited to go back again. They had a ton of Thai /Malaysian style food that I love so can’t wait to try more dishes.

We always get to-go here. This time we got Sarang Seafood which is the taro nest with seafood and veggies inside. The quality and service usually is good but this last time, they didn’t even offer the free tea with your order and the fried taro is just a ring unlike at other Singaporean/Malaysian restaurants where it’s an actual full bowl. For the price that’s similar, you would think it’d be the same, but it’s not. It’s a little sad to see the quality and service go down over the months. Maybe they’re egos are getting too fluffed up with all the rave reviews and forgetting why they got those reviews in the first place.

My friend and I came here for the first time for dinner one night. We ordered the roti prata with curry dipping sauce, beef & chicken satay skewers, tamarind green beans, and a noodle dish I forgot. The roti was delicious, and was the reason I chose to come here. The beef & chicken skewers were tender, and the sauce was very tasty. The green beans tasted like sweet & sour. It was meh. The noodles were delicious though! It’s too bad I forgot which one we ordered. :(We received a free fried tofu appetizer and then free shaved ice dessert. The service was great, and the food was good. Yum!

Thai food, Indian food(or at least Indian-inspired), and Mangos… for me, this place is a godsend! For an Asian restaurant, not only is the place clean, but the service was great. It was pretty cool to get a complimentary Tofu salad to start off our meal(which wasn’t bad btw), and from reading the other reviews, this is pretty common! Not many Asian places do this nowadays, so it was definitely a nice touch. A water pitcher was also given, which is good for me since it’s saves the time of having to wave a server down to refill your cup. To start off, I ordered the Roti Telur(?) w/the curry dipping sauce. This was ok. I was expecting it to be a little crunchy, like a naan or something for some reason, but it was too mushy and soggy for my liking. The curry sauce made it tasty though. Mango Chicken was good. Mangos are probably my favorite fruit, so I might be a bit biased towards this. The chicken was moist, and even though it was listed as being spicy, it definitely didn’t taste like it. The sliced mangos and peppers went good with it. They kinda overloaded on the sauce though, but it was ok. The mango shrimp my gf got was exactly the same thing as my dish, but just with shrimp lol. I thought the shrimp tasted kinda weird though, and had an off taste, like it wasn’t clean or something. I’ll be back!

After a catered meal of Malaysian food for lunch, I came home only to have my woman recommend that we head out for a Malaysian dinner. Of course I said yes – after all, I lived in Malaysia once upon a time, where I survived on a strictly local diet day in and day out. And I’ve been searching for a way to get that lovin’ feeling back ever since. ***ROTIPRATA — Home made Indian bread with curry dip If this was truly a Malaysian run restaurant(instead of being owned & staffed by mainland Chinese), they’d say ‘roti canai’ instead of ‘roti prata’, which is the Singaporean name. Regardless, you really have no choice but to order the stuff, for it is the true benchmark of authenticity. Verdict? Two thumbs down, it’s never supposed to be papery & dry, this might as well have been a tortilla. Properly prepared roti canai should be oily, flaky, layered, and hot enough to burn your fingers. The curry was at least familiar tasting, but missing something. ***SATAYCOMBO — BBQ chicken or beef served with peanut sauce I used to live on this stuff along with roti canai. First of all, the size was wrong – it’s supposed to be smaller chunks of meat on thinner skewers – trust me, it makes a big difference. The chicken here was completely wrong, but the beef had a hint of the right idea going on, though it wasn’t properly basted. The peanut sauce was kinda right, but not really. ***CHICKENNASILEMAK — Combination plate with rendang chicken or beef egg cucumber anchovy This was a disaster. Should’ve been coconut rice instead of plain white rice, and rather than a stew with boneless chicken chunks, it should’ve been one chicken leg or thigh on the bone, ideally fried, with minimal, stronger, darker sauce. Plus, this slop overflowed onto the anchovies, or maybe they were mixed into it to begin with, but they should’ve been dried, crispy, and in a neat pile next to the peanuts. This wasn’t even worth eating. ***SEAFOODCURRYLAKSANOODLE — Red curry soup noodle with seafood or beef and selected vegetables Just when we thought it couldn’t get any worse, the laksa came out. Laksa, when made properly, can be damn good, creamy, buttery, showcasing deliciously fresh seafood. This was just a Chinese curry broth(vaguely familiar flavors, but not right) full of yesterday’s leftover vegetables. What the hell were eggplant, okra, green beans, or potatoes doing in this dish? Perhaps they should’ve put some seafood in it instead, as I literally only tasted one mussel the whole way through. We also found it humorous that there were both thick noodles and vermicelli – make up your minds, folks. ***MANGOSNOWICE This is not a Malaysian dessert(it’s Taiwanese), but I figured that it would pretty hard to get wrong. But somehow they managed, for this was the worst mango snow ice ever. The canned mango purée with chunks tasted more like the can than it did mango, and the snow ice underneath it was highly under-flavored, dry, and lacked enough milk product or textural finesse to qualify as a snowflake dessert. ALLINALL: I don’t mind if we’re going for fusion here as long as you can make something either equally as good or better than the original. The problem was, Mango Garden missed the mark on all accounts. The tragedy continues, for there is still not one Malaysian restaurant I’ve tried in the United States that can reproduce anything even remotely as delicious as the real deal.
