Everything was pretty tasty: pulled pork, mac n cheese, and beans. Wish we had something close to where we live.

You can tell as soon as you walk in — this establishment is run by good people. It’s clean, workers are all friendly and are helpful, but the food is outstanding. Slow cooked meat is tender, juicy, flavorful, and delicious. Several different BBQ sauces and different combinations of sandwiches and BBQ will leave you stuck at the line figuring out which order you want, you may just order two sandwiches or two entrees if you have the appetite, but the portions are generous. Especially the hand cut fries that are made to order! Overall, great family owned business that will keep you coming back. Make sure you grab a slice of pie too! Bomb.

Great quick stop on way to visit President Hayes Library and home. Had the three pig sandwich which was good. But wished I’d gotten the sliced beef rib sandwich. Oh well. Food was good.

Positives: Everyone that I interacted with was consistently friendly and helpful. Great service. Ambiance was also on point. Good selection of BBQ and specialty sandwiches. I quite liked their Memphis Sweet & Heat sauce. It complimented the BBQ nicely. The sides were also pretty good. Negatives: Unfortunately I thought the BBQ itself was a bit weak. I’m usually a pulled pork guy, but it lacked flavor and was a little watery. Might have been an off night. The brisket was better but not memorable. Of course with the sauce everything was good(cardboard would have been chewy but good) but BBQ shouldn’t be so dependent on sauce in my opinion. Summary: My standard for BBQ joints in Ohio is City BBQ(a solid chain). If your BBQ isn’t as good or better than City’s, then I usually don’t come back. I liked the staff and the menu was promising so I think I will try Jimmy G’s again, but will probably focus on the specialty sandwiches next time. If you’re looking for something good in Fremont, I would also recommend the Tackle Box. They specialize in fried fish. Love their walleye and perch.

I saw the good reviews for Jimmy G’s and decided to try it. I generally prefer baby back ribs but Jimmy’s didn’t offer them. They only have spare ribs. The ribs were cooked okay and the sauce was okay but neither was great in my opinion. They were okay though. There aren’t any sides with the ribs but they give you free french fries. The fries were not that good and if they weren’t free, I would have asked to exchange them for something else. Those are the only things I had there and probably won’t go back because I know a lot better bbq places than this.

Visit often. The chicken in sweet bbq is amazing. My 12 year old loves the pulled pork with sweet savanna bbq sauce.

This is the best bbq in the area… and beyond. I am not someone who looks for bbq places to eat but Jimmy G’s is one I will drive 45 minutes to get to.(Oh and check out the pies for dessert…)

Passing by Fremont on our way thru Ohio. Decided to try some bbq. We are glad we did. Split the three meat combo and brisket sub between two adults and two kids — and had leftovers. Although the kids are light eaters. Loved the ribs. The right mix of tender and tough. Sauce was great too. The brisket sub was great. Loved the aioli and peppers. Worth the trip!

Headed back to the Burgh from the Toledo area during the early evening, I knew I wanted to pick up a quick dinner. As usual when unfamiliar with the area, I consulted my trusty Unilocal app to see what was popular in the Fremont vicinity, given that I had to pass through on my way back to the Ohio Turnpike. When Jimmy G’s was listed as the top suggestion, I knew I needed to check it out, given that I’m a diehard BBQ aficionado. I stopped by around 5 and ordered the three little pigs sandwich($ 8.35 w/tax), and took advantage of the Unilocal deal to receive a free small fry with sandwich purchase. As the name suggests, the sandwich consists of three kinds of pork: the pulled variety, the sliced variety(ham), and the smoked variety(bacon). While the serving of meat is generous, it wasn’t as flavorful as I was expecting, esp. for BBQ, where the flavors of the smoked meats should stand alone without sauce. The sandwich is served on an onion bun with Savannah sweet sauce on the top half. Given that I enjoy vinegar sauce on pulled pork, I decided to douse some of it on my sandwich to give it some flavor. While the vinegar sauce improved the flavor of the sandwich, the amount that I ended up applying to add sufficient flavor moistened the bottom bun to the point that it started to fall apart. The fries were of the fresh-cut variety, which was nice. I don’t know if this was just my order, but most of the fries I received were quite short(2−3″), which was annoying. They were nicely salted, but application of the mustard and vinegar sauces improved them. I also ordered a slice of peanut butter pie($ 3), which I enjoyed later upon returning home. While it wasn’t quite what I was expecting – it was lighter and fluffier than most peanut butter pies I’ve had before, and had an Oreo crust – it was pretty good. Given the varying quality of the food, I’m torn between 3.5 and 4 stars, but I’ll err on the generous side and go with 4. This is definitely better than the proliferation of chains that you’ll find in the area, so it’s worth checking out, if not a drive out of the way.

OMG! Absolutely fantastic! The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was that the Mac and cheese noodles seemed to be a little over cooked and not as cheesy as some others I’ve had, but the sandwich was HUGE and the meats and sauces were amazing! I would definitely come back if in the area. I had the specialty sandwich Bo Schembechler. Hubby had the prime rib sandwich with chips which I also tried and had wished I had gotten instead of the Mac and cheese. They were delicious!

What a fantastic BBQ place! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The sandwiches had fun names like«Cluck Norris» or «The Big Nut». I went with the«Mac Daddy», which was one is the best sandwiches I have had in a while. Grilled Mac n cheese on top of pulled pork?! Yes, please! You won’t be sorry you stopped. Can’t wait to try this place again!

I was blown away by this food! The ribs are the most popular thing so that’s what I got and they were the best ribs I’ve ever had. Fantastic barbecue sauce that was cooked down to a delicious sticky mess and the ribs literally fell off the bone as I picked them up. We sampled all the BBQ sauces and we really enjoyed them all. Even the fries and baked beans were wonderful– and I don’t normally like baked beans! Way to go Jimmy G’s!

So, this is Jimmy G’s… I ordered the brisket with chips combo with cole slaw… I was surprised to see this come pulled in a bun. I was looking forward to a few slices of smoked love, but instead I received 6 – 8 ounces of shredded beef. Fat content was a bit high, but it was tasty. The chips are interesting and the slaw was good. Not a bad value, I suppose for that, I won’t totally throw this place under the bus. Maybe I was expecting something a bit different from a BBQ joint with this solid of a reputation.

Pulled pork is magical – Jimmy G’s pulled pork took it to the next level. The meat was delicious and incredibly tender! The BBQ sauces were possibly the best I’ve ever had. All of them were delicious, but the Memphis one was the best. The corn bread was very moist and delicious, but I wish they had some real butter instead of margarine. I recommend the pulled pork with Memphis bbq sauce and the honey mustard. The green beans were also out-of-this-world. Lack-luster pies, though. Go here and eat. You won’t regret it!

Had the three-meat combo with brisket, pulled pork, and sausage and came away very impressed. The meats were very tender and juicy and the smoke level was great — not too much but not too little. Much better than City Barbecue, where I generally can’t even tell if the meat has been smoked, steamed, boiled, or what… Also loved the variety of sauces available. Ended up sticking mostly with the Carolina and the vinegar, since they were a little less sweet than the others. The vinegar in spray bottles is a nice touch too because I like to load it up.(At least, I hope that was vinegar and not disinfectant. But either way, it tasted great!) The only downers were the plain décor and being served on paper nacho trays felt like eating at the high school concession stand and not like a BBQ place. Also, being from Texas, I was jonesing for free pickles, okra, onions, and hot rolls or bread, but alas this is Ohio and there are none to be found. At any rate though, I think it’s safe to say Jimmy G’s is probably the best BBQ to be found in NW Ohio. 4 stars!

In the small town of Fremont there aren’t many dining options for the traveler. This turned out to be a very good choice. We each ordered the Two-meat combo that came with two sides and a drink for under $ 15. Very reasonable. The side options included a small tossed salad or(after 4 pm) a baked potato along with the more traditional slaw, fries, home-made BBQ chips, green beans, baked beans and corn muffin. Meats included brisket, pork, chicken, sausage and ribs. Ample portions were delivered and you served your own drink. The specialty sandwich options were many and also looked good.(Even a salmon choice there). Very clean tables, floors, drink area and bathrooms too. Staff very helpful and friendly. The only suggestion we would like to make TOTHEOWNER is to improve presentation. A large plate overstuffed with food is more impressive than the little cardboard serving containers now used.
