Absolutely delicious! This is my third time back at this location since they reopened. Brought several friends this time and last time and the food was just wonderful. I had the chicken and beef combo. Both were tasty, as expected. The sides are a little bitter if you haven’t had it before, but with some time, you’ll like it. I eventually did. The flatbread was super tasty also. If you are planning to eat eat among friends, definitely order the bolani. Please be aware that the food is a little pricey, but it is worth it! Don’t forget to bring cash as the establishment is cash only! 5 stars for the amazing food!

the chicken and beef kabobs are great… i like the rice afghan style, best to get it that way. the bolani is a great appetizer however, the portion size is huge! it’s easy to fill up on that. also got their butternut squash dish. can’t remember the name but it was good. came out as a whole half piece of a squash, with a mint(?) white sauce drizzled on it… the spinach dish is good, as well. large plate sizes for the kabobs, great for sharing with friends.

I drove all the way from Sacramento to order Jhala, and their response was, «if we weren’t busy we will put in the order for you». Seriously!!!

We have been going to De Afghanan since they were in San Francisco on Polk St. We then followed them to Berkeley. Now we normally go to the«new» SF location(on Geary), but go either here or Afghan Village when we go to Fremont(to get bread from Maiwand Market). The last time we came it was Afghan New Year. They were overfilled, understaffed, and the food was very poor. We chalked it up to the enormous number of customers they were trying to serve– we noted they were even brining in rice from their take out restaurant next door. Tonight we went back to give them a second chance. The had only a handful of tables filled. We ordered bolani, borani kadoo, and a combo kabob. One of the slices of bolani was missing its back piece of dough. It was also missing the magical golden crust. The borani kadoo was a pale ½ eggplant drowned in oil with a small amount of yogurt drizzled over. We’re talking I drained oil before putting it on my plate & it still left a puddle. It was gross. Finally, the kabob came. We used to brag about their phenomenal kabobs. Tonight the chicken and beef had little flavor. They were also missing the«magic.» The brown rice on the side was greasy and tasted off. We didn’t finish any of the dishes. We skipped our previously planned shir yak jala dessert. Also of note was the restaurant looked dirty– walls, floors etc. I observed the waiters & waitress using(and reusing) a paper napkin to dry dishes directly before bringing them to patrons. I also used the bathroom, which was filthy. The toilet had urine on the seat, the sink has some issue(they had a bucket that it’s draining into). The bathroom was worse last time– clogged toilet & filled with poop, no paper towels. We will not be going back. We’ll stick to the SF location.

One of my favorite(if not the favorite) afghan food places to go to. Last week I would’ve left a 5 star because the lamb was so tender, juicy and had a yellowish flavoring /color to it. Had everyone in the house going WOW, so much that I forgot to write a review. Loved it. Decided to get it(lamb) again today for dinner, wasn’t bad, but wasn’t GREAT like last time which left me a bit disappointed as I got dinner for the whole family and everyone said it wasn’t like last week. I wish I know what the difference was so I could ask them to make it like last time.

We ate there the other day, ordered the Chaplee Kabob, compared to other places, this was off the wall, excellent food, and a substantial order for the price. We are headed back again today, to try the Chicken Kabob

All the kababs here are delicious. Definitely different in taste from other afghan places– especially the chapli kababs. Hands down best shornakud and bolani. Kababs are not dry or «tough” — very tender and juicy– even the chicken which can become super dry. Everything is fresh. I prefer the combo so I get more then one kind of kabab. Only thing that kinda gets me is that when packing the food– bare hands that are handling raw meat and cash are touching the bread and onion chives garnish. Can be easily fixed by using utensils or gloves for touching the food for packing. Literally a hole in the wall. No seriously– its a hole– You most definitely will drive by and not even see it at first. They do have a sit down bigger restaurant next door but I prefer take out. Parking is a hassle. Street or in the back. BUT so worth it!!!

A hole in the wall but excellent bolani, kabobs, and rose water ice cream. Always a long line on weekends. Service is sub-par but the food makes up for it.

This place is incredible. The best Afghan in the area! I love the beef and lamb kabobs. They both are very flavorful and comes with rice & two sides. The serving size is big, but it is too good to share. I also order the bolani which fits a pizza to-go box. Super good. You can never go wrong with this place. The meat is very high quality. Tip: Try to call ahead as it takes at least 20 minutes for the food to get ready.

The best Tikka(beef) kabob ever! Great food, fast service, price reasonable! For some reason the kabob at this small location tastes better than all the other locations, including Deafghanan Cuisine which is right next door.

Don’t get me wrong… EVERYTHING here tastes great… but that lamb though… You don’t need to order anything BUT the lamb kabobs they are THAT good. Maybe some delicious bolani too if you want a side… food is a littllllllllllle bit on the pricier side but they give you A LOT… and I don’t mind pricey food when it’s worth it, quality of meats, texture, taste. everything is perfect. This place is a serious hole in the wall right next to the Afghan theater on fremont blvd which is kind of easy to miss. Parking has never been a problem for me. The place is super small with only two tables so I wouldn’t rely on dining in. Would recommend calling ahead of time to place an order so you won’t be tortured waiting there with all the delicious smelling kabobs. must try if you live in the tri city! Or anyone who loves lamb/kabobs/meat in general. cause I mean what better place to go grab some kabobs than America’s first and largest Afghan community? (old ass review but submitted for the business next door like a dumbass –_-)

I know afghan food & I love all types of kabob. My dad and brother ordered the chicken and I went for the beef tika kabob(not the same as the ground beef chapli). I can’t emphasize enough how amazing my beef kabob was. Fresh, Juicy and tenderized perfectly. No other place makes kabob like this. The chicken was better than most places, but still did not compare to the beef. I highly recommend ordering the beef kabob. Take out was easy & the best option for this location. Large portions and had leftovers that tasted just as good.

I saw this place a few time as I drove by every once a while and decided to give them a try. What got my attention was the grill smell. Don’t we all just love the grill smell? Anyways to go here you are better off parking around the back side of the lot and just walk to the front, Fremont Blvd. Its a small place, not meant to dine in. Its pretty much a take out kind of place. Another note to this place, the price is a bit on the high and they only accept CASHONLY! If you need cash, there is an ATM near by on the right corner toward the RxR tracks. Onto the food. The cost for two meal without rice was about $ 26, with rice would be $ 28! But I gotta say, food was pretty good, the chicken was tender and so was the beef. I still think its pretty expensive for what I got for two skewers. I don’t think I will come back often. Maybe some day when I feel rich. For that price, I think I rather go to DishDash in Milpitas for something similar.

This is a review for the hole-in-the-wall place. Not to be confused with the restaurant next door. I’ve had a bad experience with the restaurant and came here after leaving still hungry. Here I’ve got served very promptly. Bolani is great when it comes straight from the frying pan. Kabobs were also very good. Too bad they removed couple of tables they used to have. I’d better sit here than at the restaurant. Beware of cash only policy!

In need of takeout, I actually went to De Afghanan’s sit-down location a couple doors down(rookie mistake). When I entered, it was hustling and bustling and I couldn’t even get anyone to notice me for a couple of minutes. Once the waitress engaged me, she told me that I should go «next door» for takeout because it would be faster. So out the door and to the right about 10 seconds, and I found myself at the takeout shop. They have a more focused menu here, but it’s easy to get in and out relatively quickly. I had my food in about 15 minutes, and for $ 16 I got a very fair portion of food. I got the combo chicken, beef and chaplee kabob. Everything was delicious and super flavorful and well cooked. Definitely a highlight in the Fremont area, don’t miss it.

Seated quickly on a Friday night. Delicious food. Friendly staff. I will definitely be back! And now, a few words from my boyfriend: I would murder small bunnies for just a plain plate of the rice.

I love this place, but it’s Fremont’s not-so-secret gem. It seems especially busy as it’s the only De Afghanan Kebab option currently available. The take-out location is renovating due to the kitchen fire they had in January 2015. I haven’t done a drive-by as of May 2015, so I don’t know if the take-out joint is back in business, but they are slowly getting there. Late March, I spotted shiny new grills already installed and a pair of ceiling fans waiting for wiring and installation. I prefer the take-out food from next door. Nonetheless, the food at both Fremont De Afghanan locations is pretty good and the prices aren’t too shabby, so it’s perpetually busy, understandably so. The wait is compounded by the fact that every time I’ve been there, there were only two servers. However, patience is a virtue, and you shall be handsomely rewarded. Awesome: Chatni sauce condiment — green sauce made with jalapenos and vinegar. Dare I say… better than Sriracha! Mantu(Afghan meat-filled dumpling similar to ravioli or potstickers) Potato bolani — pan-fried unleavened flatbread filled with potatoes and leek Chaplee — seasoned ground meat kebabs Lamb, beef(tri-tip) and chicken kebabs — So good. The combo is a solid win. Brown rice(seasoned white rice) Okay: Firni dessert(rose and cardamom light custard) Pass: Butternut squash bolani(the squash still had a bit of crunch) White rice(why get plain white rice when you can get the seasoned rice? Ermahgerd. So. Good.)

The best kabobs and bolani. Great food, cooked just right, friendly service and great«hole in the wall» feel. It may not be pretty or in a great location but this is my favorite restaurant. Get the lamb kabob and the filet mignon beef kabob. Don’t get their«house specialty» blended one. Same food as the restaurant two doors down.

Uhhh, literally the best Afgan food that you can get in California, perhaps the United States! Yes I’ve made quite the bold claim however the food here is just that bold in taste. The shop has been here 21 yrs and counting and is pretty much a staple for good middle eastern food in the area as I see it. The original shop is pretty much a hole in the wall with seating for maybe 8 max, so this is pretty much a take-out only shop unless you get lucky and someone leaves right when you get there. Be prepared to also wait ~30mins for your food as there will be a line. Must Orders: EVERYTHING!!! No seriously, try some of everything. I’m not joking. BOLANIKACHOLOO — a type of potato pancake, trust me, it is a must, order one to share with your group. Don’t ask questions, just do it! TRIPLEKABOB: MURGH, TEKA, CHAPLEE(Beef, chicken, ground beef) — every meat is just so so tender, juicy, and flavorful, what surprised me the most was the ground beef which looks like a beef pancake and was just as delicious as the kabob meats… LAMBKABOB: DELICIOUS!!! Enough said… These three menu items pretty much cover everything that they serve here(minus the bolani gandana which is seasonal and seems to sell out even when it is in season). I DONOT care if you are here with a group of 10+ hungry college kids or by just yourself after you have already ate a giant meal, order EVERYTHING I just listed! Feel free to have your stomach thank me after. No matter where you live in the bay, it is worth the drive. I have heard that people will even drive from socal just to eat at this place. A true gem of the bay, even better that it is a hole in the wall. Price: Cash only! But if they raised prices by 50%, I’d still go. The PSF(price to food ratio) is insanely good here. Easy 5+ stars Parking: There is street parking or parking in the back lot TIP: There is also a sister shop by the same owners called De Afghanan Cuisine located ~3 shops to the right, a little more upscale of a dining experience however the food at the kabob house seems to hit the spot just a tad bit better. People have been confusing the two locations since they have similar names and close proximity to each other.
