WHAT?! i’m actually the first person to review this GEM of a govt entity?! where do i start? caltrans saved my life. TWICE. they are seriously my HEROES. EVENT #1 a couple years ago i was driving back from palo alto to emeryville and was taking the san mateo bridge(92). and so OFCOURSE my front passenger tire exploded.(i’ve always had bad luck with that tire!!) so i’m on the stupid bridge which is 2 lanes wide. luckily i make it to an emergency pit stop where i got out of the way. i realized i don’t have tools to swap tires. damn. so i called my bf. then i realized DAMN! my spare won’t fit(BBK)!! so i called my brother to use his. lol, three people to change one tire… anyway right as i called my brother, my cell died. NICE, now how are they going to know where exactly i’m stranded? so i’m sitting in my car debating what to do next. THEN! i spot a caltrans tow truck with flashing lights, hazards and all, closing in and parking behind me! he tells me he saw me from the bridge camera and came to tow me off the bridge to somewhere safer. and he let me use his cell to call the boys to let them know i’d be parked at the toll plaza. i seriously would’ve died in that small emergency lane/pit stop thing. the bridge would shake too everytime a car zoomed by. SCARY! i love caltrans! (oh, a side note. as soon as he got off his tow truck and saw that i was asian, he immediately says«oh, towing is free.» HAHAHA b/c i’m asian, and he knows asians=cheap. but damn was he on point. that was indeed my first question i was going to ask) EVENT #2 i work in fremont, so i come from I880S and exit Warren/Mission Blvd. The off-ramp merges with the drivers that exit from I880N onto Mission. The merge is ultra sharp, and there were these crazy weeds growing out of control that prevented drivers from both ends from seeing if a car was coming. and you know those dumb drivers that take the exit at like 80mph. seriously, it was an accident waiting to happen. At first I thought it was the City of Fremont that I had to contact. After three weeks they get back to me and say I have to contact caltrans. Since when did caltrans handle landscaping? Anyway, I e-mail caltrans. TWO days later, the weeds are CLEARED! no more accident/fire hazard! I was so amazed at their prompt response to my request. I love caltrans! They’re my HERO!
