Spaghetti took forever to arrive. My daughter was completely done with her food and squirly as hell while I tried to eat. Failed to eat. Overcooked noodles. Sauce was tomato paste with a little oregano dumped in. Meatballs were tough, dry, and completely unseasoned; tasted like a mouthful of ground beef. Accompanying garlic bread was squishy with burned bits of something unidentifiable on top. Good bleu cheese dressing on the mostly-iceberg salad, I guess. Good thing, too, because that’s all I ate before sending my plate back and going to Dish n Dash for better food, cheaper.

My Family and I love Black bear! We were so happy it opened next to our home. They have great food and the best service. You never have to wait like at Denny’s and IHOP. Their food serving is also worth your money. Whenever we need our big breakfast fix, you can find us here.

My wife and I was looking for somewhere to eat on Christmas day and decided to eat here, we were craving breakfast foods so that’s what we ordered, I was surprised because the wait to sit wasn’t that long at all, I guess most people ate at home. Anyways my wife ordered an omelet a vegi one in fact but after a few bites she noticed what looked like to me and her a piece of hair, so we called a waitress over and she quickly took it away, that was our first mistake, we should have asked a manager to come out and look at it cause when the waitress came back she told us that the manager thought it was a piece of mushroom(please look at the included picture and let me know what you think). So they ended up making us another one and we took it to go. Otherwise the foods at black bear is pretty good, big portions but I still prefer country way on the next block

Would give zero stars if I could. Granted it was late and I was only ordering dessert, but if you’re going to tell me which desserts you’re out of, then tell me which desserts you are actually out of. After more than 30 minutes of waiting for breakfast food(on a slow night), they told me they were out of the dessert they said they had. Is it really so hard to just take the dessert out of the display as soon as I ordered it? I basically ended up just sitting there drinking water while everyone else ate. Customer service is poor too. They barely seemed apologetic for lying about their desserts, and after I brought it up to the manager that they were still charging me for something I didn’t get, he just shrugged it off. The one in Milpitas was much better.

This is a great diner if you’re looking to get some good old american classic comfort food. Breakfast/brunch seems to be the meal of choice at this establishment, resulting in a slight wait during those times on the weekends, however I’ve never waited more than 15 minutes or so. Service is standard, food is good and portions are large. Chicken Fried Steak is my go to here. Big plus: If you are a biscuits and gravy fan it is a standard choice with most breakfast meals and their biscuits are BIG biscuits!

Staff said that it is corporate policy not to serve real butter. Who eats pancake with margarine? Recently my wife found foreign objects in her omelette. It was replaced and comped, but we lost our appetite. Son’s corn dog was over cooked. And upon inspection, found low quality hotdog in it. The place had great service. I feel sorry for the staff if more people start realizing the low quality food and stop coming.

Their Joe’s Hobo Omelet is one of my favorites, especially when I’m in the mood to not eat starchy carbs. I just customize it with side veggies and more bacon. Also, they brew strong coffee here. It surely wakes you up! The wait is never too long, since they have a bigger place compared to Country Way. However, they’re not really comparable. Both have their own unique way of doing things and cooking food. The service is attentive and friendly. They check you often for whatever else you need. I’ll never get tired visiting this place for my traditional American breakfast treat.

This HAS to be one of the best brunch places ever! I’ve only come here twice, but both times, I’ve had a great experience. I got a spinach mushroom poached eggs and the mount shasta omlette. They were both sooooooo delicious and they have great portions and give you fruit too. This second time I went there, the weather was cloudy/gloomy and it just seemed perfect to have a warm brunch in there.

The service is getting worse every time I come here. I had to ask for every thing, refills on drinks, they didn’t bring part of the order, and the server didn’t mention the kids got a free ice cream with their meal. Luckily my son had that one covered. Honestly the food is only Ok and also seems to have gone down hill. The family was talking about how we should have went to chick-fill-a as we would have enjoyed it more. This is the last time a visit here ends with me really wishing I had went somewhere else. Lesson learned. A real highlight of the visit was listening to the waitstaff make fun of another families baby at the register area. Used to love this place but I now say stay away!

Have eaten there on 3 occasions and good food good service and large portions. A little pricey but worth not having to cook. I asked for extra hollandaise sauce and was given a bowl. Yum. I dove in before picture was taken so there’s a bite missing. Love the hash browns very crisp and lots of Them. Hubby has burger and fries. Seems to like as he finishes it. Will be going back but want to give the chicken and waffles a try.

Finally visited a Black Bear Diner and I was pretty satisfied with my breakfast! I came in pretty hungry so I ordered Bruce’s Meat Lover’s Omelette which was loaded with ham, bacon, link sausage & jack cheese( ). As expected, it was a huge breakfast platter. The omelette was good and all the meats inside were cooked good. The platter was enough to keep me full for a good part of the day and that was pretty much the main reason why I chose to eat at Black Bear. All in all, not too shabby. Service was a little slow, but I wasn’t in any rush. Would I come back again? Sure, for breakfast if I was in the area. You’ll definitely get your money’s worth with their huge portions!

OHHHHH… I can’t say enough about this place. It reminds me of home. Not just moving from Kansas City to San Francisco and I miss foods from home… I mean a mix of Grandma’s and Mom’s HOMECOOKIN! TIP — — If you order a biscuit… it’s the size of one of the small plates you have in your cabinet. No, I am not kidding in the slightest. The gravy is excellent. It is a little on spicy side for those that are spice sensitive. For those that like spice you will look at this review like what is she talking about. I know there are a zillion things on the menu but the biscuits and gravy are so perfect that I JUSTCAN’T order anything else. I literally pick out something else then when the waiter or waitress asks me what I want the words Biscuits and Gravy come out of my mouth.

My friends and I came here for breakfast once and maybe they were having a busy off day, but our server was really rude and our food wasn’t very good either. Eating breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, so I have high expectations when I go to a breakfast or brunch joint. We were a little hung over that morning so of course we had to order some mimosas to help us through the day. My friend also wanted an ice coffee, but when she asked our server, he gave us the most smart mouthed and rude reply. He could have easily just told us no, but he insisted on being rude. Then I ordered corned beef hash which was super dry. I knew I should have gotten the chicken fried steak or the biscuits and gravy. I usually have a pretty good time at Black Bear Diner, but this was just not the day to go. I will probably try it again if I am in the area. Hopefully it will be better.

This is one of the best breakfast places on Fremont! Even on the weekends, the wait is never more than a few mins. The food is consistent and always comes to your table hot! I always order the small portion of the ham and cheese omelette and it is huge! Biscuits and gravy are good too and is there Apple chicken sausage.

Comfort food for the hungry person! First visit here. Came for mother’s day with the wife and kids. Love the décor. Kinda feels like a mountain lodge. Greeted and seated quickly. Servers were attentive and friendly. Menu is printed on newspaper, kinda kool. Menu is easy to navigate with lots of comfort food options. Breakfast lunch and dinner options available throughout the day. Each of the dinners comes with soup or salad, choice of side and a cornbread muffin. Portions are HUGE! seriously, come with an appetite. Ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with the soup. Only a single choice of soup(Minestrone). Wife ordered pot roast. Both were tasty. I felt the soup and patatoes were a bit under seasoned as i had to add salt. Also the country gravy was pretty mild. Did not order deserts, however they looked amazing and are equally as enormous. Bear claw the size of a dinner plate… Come on! :) Overall, the food was good, Service was great, prices are very resonable and portions are huge. I will be back!

Not as charming as any of my local diners in town but also quite better than say Denny’s. This place is huge. and they do staff accordingly, so getting a seat during prime times are not so much of an issue here, hence my patronage. But after several visits since the opening of this location, I have observed a few things. First, they do breakfast here much better than they do lunch or dinner. Don’t know if the breakfast crew is stronger but I now keep my visits before noon. Second, the portions here are obscenely big. Even the«smaller» plates will exceed the recommended calorie intake for a meal. But you know what? ‘Murica! The Yays! Unique breakfast meats, like their own house made Italian sausage patty(who does that?!) A little salty but unique. They also use real brisket meat for their corned beef and hash(not from a can). But when getting this they will ask you what kind of potatoes you would like as an accompaniment. Doesn’t hash inherently have potatoes in it? Double down on them taters, I guess. ‘Murica! Eggs and toast always done as requested. Simple I know, but this is a test for legitimacy in the breakfast world. And they’ve got that covered here. The Mama Bear Chipotle sauce in the bottle is good. If it is not on your table, ask for it. So good with breakfast things. The Boos: Steak I got for dinner once was incredibly so-so. I actually tried to order the Prime Rib that they post starts at 4 – 4:30 and it was gone at 5:45. Huh?! French Dip was so-so as well. Kinda dry and skimpy. Gravy on the Chicken Fried Steak, should be called country paste, not gravy. That’s how thick it was. But because you’re clean and spacious and I somewhat know what works for me here now, it wouldn’t be prudent to say that I’d be back. Black Bear, you so ‘Murican!

The bear claws are HUGE! Makes me wonder if real bears have claws that big … kinda scary. Since my main course was quite large as well, I boxed the claw up and ate it the next day for breakfast. Microwave that massive thing and you’re in for a treat! After hearing about BBD for about a year now, I grabbed the opportunity to eat there when my dad said we’d have breakfast in Fremont before/after walking at Lake Elizabeth. Our party of four arrived around 8am on a Sunday and was seated immediately right next to the kitchen area. It was a bit quieter which was fine. Our waitress was nice, but I couldn’t understand her at times because she rushed parts of what she said. All I heard was bear claw and cornbread and assumed they’d be out soon, which was right. I’ve heard so many great things about the corn bread muffin– couldn’t agree more! Seems like they bake them fresh to order and at ninety nine cents, I should’ve ordered at least two. Slather on some whipped butter and you’re in woodsy paradise. As for my entrée, I ordered a volcano with egg whites. I love how fluffy the pancakes are with a touch of cream, plus the sausage’s texture was fantastic. You really have to bite/slice through the sausage skin, which is a nice change from IHOP or Denny’s softer version. I don’t care much for bacon but theirs is okay as well. Hash browns aren’t as crispy as I like but they sufficed. The Potatoes are saltier than I’m used to but they’re good. On the way out, I ordered a banana cream pie, chocolate cream pie, and peach cobbler($ 5.99 each). Sital handled our check and boxed up my pies with such a bright and friendly attitude. The banana cream pie has too much whipped cream, but under all that topping lies flavorful banana cream with a scant amount of banana slices. I prefer chocolate cream pie and appreciate the chocolate chips on top. It has a crust similar to crushed Oreo cookies with less heavy chocolate cream. The peach cobbler was sour– I won’t buy this again. Next time I visit, I’ll order the corned beef hash with a side of pancakes. The place creates a wonderful escape into the woods from the moment you set eyes on a carved bear outside, reminds me of Disneyland and the Grand Californian hotel. You’ll forget you’re in Fremont for about an hour.
