When we ordered delivery my pork was so salty I couldn’t eat it. My husbands chicken was delicious however so we shared it. I think it was just a mistake of maybe the meat being seasoned and someone seasoned it again. I’m willing to go in and give it a try instead of delivery next time. When I do I’ll update this review.

Went here for dinner with a friend. We were greated by the staff as soon as we walked in. The place had maybe 4 guests. The staff was very helpful and polite. The food was delicious, we loved everything we had. We had the tostones and guacamole for an appetizer. For dinner I had the steak chimi with yucca fries and my friend had the fried cheese monfogo. Everything was to die for. Portions are very large and prices are so reasonable. This is a hidden gem. Hopefully people find out about it so it can stay open.

Absolutely a gem. Decorated very nicely. Menu has a small offering compared to other restaurants but we were VERY impressed once we got our food. Rotisserie chicken, steak with onions, mofongo de chicharrones and chicharrones de pollo was all very very good and had beautiful presentation. Our appetizer of guacamole was a little awkward as instead of chips it came with tostones. They might want to fry plantains in a more chip side manner(like the ones that come in a bag) so they are a better match with the guacamole which was very good. Will definitely be back

I stopped by a few days ago to get my ailing wife some of the really good chicken soup they have here. Then I took one look at the prepared lunch dishes spread out behind glass that I knew I had to get myself something as well. The guy dishing it up was very friendly, helpful with explanations and patient. I sampled a couple of things, and got the excellent pernil(pork roast) — wonderfully seasoned, tender and moist, with just the right amount of decadent fat and crackling skin. Also rice and beans. Prices are reasonable, portion sizes good and most important, so far everything tastes great. Go give them a try and keep them going here in Freeport! You can also order delivery online via Unilocal/Eat24.

I liked it but did not love it. Service was great! Very attentive but we were the only ones there at first for lunch. The location is good. It’s on busy Merrick Rd with parking in the back. The place was trendy and clean. Got the Guc con Taines(tostones w/guacamole) and they were delicious! Then I ordered La Bandera Envuelta(burrito w/rice, beans, grilled chicken and sweet plantains). It came with a side and drink. Price was very reasonable. Too bad the rice had no particular taste to it, the chicken was paper thin and barely any maduros! I was hoping it would be great but it was a fail for me. I still have intentions on going back to try something else in the future!

My wife and I were in the mood for some authentic Latin food and didn’t feel like traveling all the way into queens for it as we normally do. So glad we tried this restaurant. Service was great and the food was delicious. Everything was freshly made. I recommend trying their sangria, it is also freshly made and goes well with your meal. We will be regulars there! Enjoy.

Awesome food, friendly people, reasonable prices. What more is there to say? Please go here — I want them to stay in business for a long time so that I can keep eating here! If you do go, try substituting tostones for the fries, if fries come with your order. The tostones are nearly magical with the Chevere sauce for dipping(but be sure to eat them while they are hot). UPDATE: My new favorite — La Bandera Envuelta with shrimp! So freakin’ good!

Awful service, okay food. I’m unsure if it was because we came on a Sunday evening but the place was completely empty. The waiter took for ever to take our order and when we finally did order something, we could not order what we wanted to get because they didn’t have it anymore(no red sangria, no calamari and no yuca fries). There was only one waiter and he did not smile even once nor did he come back to the table to ask if everything was okay. As for the food: We had a pitcher of white sangria that tasted like it had been left in a refrigerator in an opened container for weeks. We also had the ceviche, which lacked salt and acidity. I had a churrasco chimmi sandwich and I will admit, was pretty good. My boyfriend had the skirt steak and grilled shrimp entrée, which he enjoyed however the the chimmichurri that accompanied was mediocre at best. The place definitely has potential; it’s in a great location, the décor is vibrant, some of the food was tasty, also the music was not too loud. Just add salt to the food, hire friendlier staff and make sure to have enough ingredients for week and they’re good to go!

This Trendy modern spot will very quickly be the Hottest place to eat in Freeport. First time around I missed out because on Saturday you need reservations! Homemade Sangria was fresh and the juices great! Get the Mofongo, any of them. Simple well priced great atmosphere. Reminds me of SEA in Williamsburg with the flavor of PioPio In Woodhaven. Awesome modern Latin fusion cuisine, I’d go before the word gets out to much. There’s parking in the back.

The name attracted me to this place, great décor and ambiance but on to the food skirt steak tasted like a mock meat for vegetarians boooo. Fries are too salty, came here for a great tasting chimi but my crave was not fulfilled.

Bright and colorfull. The space is comfortable and inviting. Jose and the staff are very welcoming. The variety of Latino cuisine is intriguing and delicious. The empanadas and the tacos are rhe perfect starters. Crunchy and fresh. Cuban Chimi, beet salad and crispy plantains all good. Drink specials and a sweet desert rounding out a fun and delicious experience . The service is great. Chevere is a good atmosphere for a family dinner or a date. We look forward to our next visit.

I give it one star for the service. Food was awful and very overpriced. The salmon was previously frozen and the cous cous was tasteless. The pork chop was about $ 18. Not even the mango sauce on it was good. Rice and beans were cold Flan was the worst dessert ever. Sorry, was hoping for a good experience.

Last night a friend and I had the pleasure of experiencing Chevere. Upon entering we were greeted with a friendly welcome. When we were seated our waiter Ron came over quickly. He asked if this was our first time dining at Chevere. When we said yes he explained the menu to us. We started with an appetizer of fried cheese which was very good. Our choice for our entrée was pork chop and the other skirt steak. The meals arrived with a nice presentation and hot. During our dinner the owner Jose greeted us with a nice hello and wanted to see how our dinner was. The entire experience was great, I will become a regular for sure. My last comment, I am a fanatic about the restrooms in any establishment, to me it tells a lot about the the restaurant. If there was a star rating for this it would be a big 5 star. Thanks Jose looking forward to our next meal at Chevere.

Drove 45 minutes because I wanted Mofongo. My Mother read the Newsday review, and being Puerto Rican, had to judge theirs against our homemade standard. Well first it’s located right on Merrick in Freeport. Street or rear lot parking. Tall ceilings, open kitchen and a gigantic pilon and baseball bat to mash the plantains. Chef sent out the chicken chiccarones as a complimentary appetizer with a delicious dipping sauce. My wife had a very good Cuban sandwich with crunchy yucca fries, expectations met. I had the Mofongo with pork chiccarones bristling with garlic, pork rinds and seasoned just right. Mofongo came with a deep flavored dark consume for dipping plus a side of homemade hot sauce. Served with an organic mixed green salad with chopped mango, omg! Oh you want homemade sweets, they have that too. We had the tres Leches cake that had just the right amount of sweetness that we wanted more. Simple menu, homemade desserts, you can feel the passion in the cooking! Latin fusion at the highest levels with bargain basement prices.

A friend and I were en route to Jones Beach for a concert and she had seen a review of this place in the paper-we decided to stop in and have dinner. They were a little busy when we got there and we waited-Brandon, because we had waited, brought up over some ceviche and tostones [on the house] which were delicious. The seafood was fresh and very appealing. We were given out choice of beverages and both got the limeade, which was delicious refreshing. I got the cuban sandwich [Mr. Cubano] and tostones since it had been a while since i had had them-the tostones were thin, smashed flat but not chalky tasting My friend got fries and a wrap [like a burrito] which was very good-there was a lot of food and we both had to take food home. It is reasonably priced and the wait staff [Mia and Brandon] were very accommodating. I would recommend and return. It is a nice sized space, nicely decorated and the one can talk without having to yell.

Placed my order thru GrubHub, heard great things about this new restaurant. As soon I placed the order, Johnathan, called to say they did not have my selections available. Okay, I was bummed but, it was 8:30 on a Saturday night. I reordered. Johnathan called again, this time to confirm my order. Chicharrones de pollo, sweet plantains, rice and beans. I would have preferred my Chicharrones, fried a bit harder than these were. However, they were still tasty. I enjoyed the beans, the most. All in all, a good meal. I will definitely stop in to dine, next time.

Enjoyed a nice lunch here today with the family. It was our first time here and we wanted to support a local business in our hometown. The service was great. I had the tilapia and shrimp on a bed of cous cous with a mango relish. The tilapia and shrimp were delicious with the mango relish. The others had the bistec encebollado(steak with onions) and rice and beans. The steak was delicious and perfectly cooked. And the portions were huge! Can’t wait to come back and try the sandwiches and the mofongo here.

Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience! So thrilled to find delicious Latin food in Nassau County with ambiance and great service! Went there on a double date, unexpectedly on a Saturday night. Someone else had Unilocaled it and we decided to try it, as we are always in search of good Spanish food. It only had a couple of reviews, which were each at least 4 stars… which we thought it was the ‘family & friend’ reviews. So we were skeptical when we walked in. The place only had one couple there finishing up, so that was another suggestion that perhaps this wasn’t as good as the reviews would lead you to believe. We were also worried that the food wouldn’t be fresh, since there weren’t many people. Boy were we wrong! This place was great! First, the staff we dealt with were all very nice and attentive. Our waiter was Brandon, a 23 year old with an old soul. Super knowledgeable about the food and how it was prepared. A real pleasure dealing with him! We even got to meet the owner, who’s name now escapes me… but another very nice guy. I had the salmon with Dominican cous cous. I had never had couscous before, and I didn’t love it. But the salmon was perfection! The other orders were the skirt steak and bistec encebollado — Both were delicious. Also, the orders are large enough to share. We ended up with leftovers to take home. Loved the chicharrón de pollo and the ceviche appetizers! We even went for dessert — the flan and the rice something dessert(it’s not something I usually eat, so I can’t remember the name), which everyone loved. Prices were great, food was delicious and abundant, and fantastic service. We will definitely go back — often and frequently.

Wonderful addition to Freeport. This Dominican based Latin Fusion spot launched just four months ago really impressed us. This restaurant seems like it was transferred from Brooklyn, but this is their only location. Food itself was just terrific, especially the Salmon. The Tres Leches cake was amazing as well. Look at the pictures to see how polished the plates are. Décor is tasteful, simple and everything inside is brand new. This might be Freeport’s finest off the Nautical Mile. The service was exemplary, and our server explained how they can make substitutions for those on special diets. The compact menu is easy to navigate and descriptions are provided, plus the staff explained to us how dishes were prepared. We’re going to be back.
