I’ll start with the good: great location, setting and food. That said, there were not a lot of options for vegetarians and the waitress tried very hard to negotiate and bully me into something I didn’t want just to make her life and the chef’s life easier. There was only one vegetarian dish listed on the menu and of course, it was pasta. No shocker there. Pasta is always the default dish for vegetarians and normally when I see that, I know I’m in for a mediocre meal. This was not the case here with the food. The food was very good. The menu clearly lists that chef Gordon is up for the challenge of creating a dish for vegetarians and vegans, and on the back of the menu, it lists gluten free options as well. This excited me, maybe I didn’t have to settle for a mediocre $ 18 pasta! Woo hoo! …Oh wait, my excitement died quickly as I asked the waitress what the chef could make me as a vegetarian. It basically turned into a game of the waitress playing resistance and negotiation for several back and forth trips from our table to the kitchen. Long story short, I don’t think Chef Gordon is really up for«the challenge» and his staff could use some training on helping vegetarians and vegans with options with ease and no resistance. By the time I got my food I was a little worn out from the menu tug-of-war and it took away from my delicious Thai stir fry that he made for me. Wrap up: Not a vegetarian or vegan friendly restaurant unless you’re up for an ordering ordeal and embarrassment.

Overall Fantastic !!! From start to finish. We started with a cocktail at the bar since we were early for our reservation and added another person, they were happy to accommodate. Started with the mussels & clams & sampler which was perfect, we all ordered something different, prawn sambuca, surf and turf($ 24) btw great value, beef was cooked just right and chicken and grits. Finished with crème brûlée, thin mint cheesecake and key lime tort. Prices were very fair and customer service was top notch Lyn our server was very pleasant we have family here in oak harbor and visit a few times a year and this will def be our go to dinner place from here on out thank you Gordon ‚ The Joseph’s, Johnsons & Rogers

Sometimes good. Sometimes bad. Got to ask yourself if your feeling lucky that day. Use to go here and had considered this to be one if my favorite restaurants. Until they disappointed us several meals in a row. Hadn’t been back for a couple of years. Thought we’d try it again one day for lunch but they weren’t open until 12 noon. We saw many vehicles come and leave at 11:30. So we left and went up to Neils. So we’ll have to give it another shot when we are in Freeland between 12 – 2. It’s expensive for what you get but if Gordon is there cooking and in a good mood he can be accommodating. There is one waitress there that is extreme aloof. I’m hoping she’s not there anymore. She’s got a bad attitude. We’ll have to wait and see. I’ll report back then.

Highly recommend Gordon’s. I have eaten here at Gordon’s at least four times. Gordon has never let me down — I drove over from Seattle just to eat here. I do not know of anywhere like Gordon’s in Seattle. True gourmet fare. Here is gourmet food with actual servings that may be enough to take home. On Sat 11÷28÷15, we both wanted the steelhead — but did not want two of the same — Gordon perfectly whipped up an alternative steelhead dish that was as phenomenal as the one on the menu. Service by AnnaLise(sp?) and Eadie(sp?) has always been great! We always arrive early because that just makes it all easier. The quality and quantity were well worth the price — the sauce, accessories — and quantity — were all stellar. I cannot imagine you will regret trying this out.

Lunch with a friend. Got there at 12:00 when they opened. Just had soup and dinner salad. Soup could have been hotter, but still delicious. Service was very good!

Scrumptious food, beautifully presented. Great service. Spectacular view! I was expecting this to be a little pricey, and it was, but very much worth it. My first visit, so I can’t comment re: whether or not the menu seemed dated or stale. There were three or four things it was hard to decide between. I will definitely return!

I have been here several times. It’s actually the first restaurant my now wife and I went to when we moved to Whidbey over two years ago. What a wonderful place. If you are from Seattle and consistently pay the El Gaucho and Met Bar and Grill prices then this is going to be a solid comparison at a discounted rate. Fun staff with great attitudes not subscribing to the perception of non locals welcome emotions. Reviewer beware, reviews given such as the one left by Jay L. Should be ignored. Fried chicken and grits over a waffle and syrup here is polar opposite of iHop. A great place!

Gordon’s is a very beautiful, small restaurant, with friendly staff and good food. I would have given 5 stars, but the prices are a little out there-$ 25 for prawns and pasta and $ 9 for a side of seasonal veggies… Although the menu was meat heavy, there were a few good vegetarian options(which I normally look for) and we ended up going with seafood. I had a fried oyster po’ boy sandwich and my husband had a prawn and pasta dish, we also ordered a side of seasonal veggies. Although I am generally not an oyster fan, my sandwich was very good with a lot of flavor and the veggies were done perfectly. We were also very grateful to the staff for sending us a complimentary pound cake dessert in honor of our honeymoon. All in all, it was a very good experience!

We’ve always had a wonderful experience here. Gordon is a master. AnnMarie(sp?) is a gracious, helpful host, and the view is soothing. But, as retirees, we just can’t afford it any more. Maybe if we win the lottery!

Good food… over priced. Menu has a 90s feel to it. Gordon is a local legend. However, the menu hasn’t been looked at for a long time. Also, $ 26 for Fried Chicken seems high. Restaurant emailed me and asked me to amend my review. Saying chicken is $ 20. I was charged $ 26 last time I went in… sorry not changing my review

Overly snooty, overpriced restaurant. Didn’t like the atmosphere(elitist, snooty, upper crust). Gorgeous view. Food was ok, but was expensive and we had a very long wait. Wouldn’t go back because of how the place made me feel. Not the place to go unless you are very dressed up.

Hostess was ok … You got the impression that since you didn’t have a reservation(Wednesday night… And seating was available) that you were not as ‘welcome’ as those who did. With that said view was nice of the bay and décor inside interesting. It was confusing coming up from parking lot where the front entrance was … I would suggest they gate close off the area with some fencing outside the kitchen area. My husband ordered the London Broil and scallop potatoes — steak was good potatoes not so much. I ordered the Jambalaya … It tasted like Rice-a-Roni … With dried up sausage and a few clams/shrimp. Taste was bland … Deserts were delicious. Presentation/plating of the good was excellent. Not sure it’s worth the price …

Great menu, great view. Very good food. If busy, be patient. If you have a reservation, be patient. Taste has never disappointed, temperature of food has. Service time and attitude is mediocre to acceptable. This is a good restaurant that I would not write off my list. I live on Whidbey. Would like to give it a 4 star. Still waiting for the right experience.

It was ok. It’s Probably the nicer resturant around so the locals love the fair and ambiance. The food is of higher quality but I don’t believe you get enough bang for your buck here. I will also mention that we had a reservation for 830 and were not seated until 915. My guess would be the people who live here really like the food and want to support the local economy, hence the high marks.

Food and service was absolutely amazing. I got the chicken and grits and my wife got the special which was a seafood fettuccine. Both dishes were spectacular. The service was great and staff were very helpful and fast. The scenery and atmosphere only add to the overall phenomenal dinning experience. We will both be going back as often as possible.

I thought the food here was a solid four stars but we had a subpar experience waiting for our table, so hence the star subtraction. I made a 7:30 reservation but we were not seated until 8pm. While waiting, I heard a group behind me griping about not being seated or their 7:00 reservation. A 45 minute wait with reservation is borderline ridiculous. I don’t think the restaurant made any concessions for them either — a free drink or two would certainly have assuaged miffed patrons. Despite the service shortfalls, the food is worth coming for. My cioppino was rich and savory, chunks of seafood and assorted shellfish in a tomato lobster broth. My husband’s linguine with mussels and clams was above average, but not especially memorable. My friend thought the sambuca prawns were also good, especially the ravioli served with it. We decided to skip dessert. I’d recommend this place, but only during non prime times, so there’s no chance of long waits.

A very worthwhile culinary experience, don’t mind that your in south Whidbey, you could easily by in Capitol Hill! Of all 6 diners, we had 6 successful orders – the memorable highlights being current specials(Thai-inspired seafood dish and ‘Gordon’s Passion’ – bacon-wrapped pork tenderloins with a squash and Brie-butter side), as well as butternut squash ravioli and the Pacific Rim sampler. Of crucial importance, save some appetite for a really tremendous dessert – the key lime pie and semifreddo caused my father to rave so boldly, the table next to us had to see what was going on! If you’re in the area, and you’re looking for spectacular dining, Gordon’s is a must!
