This branch of the chain eye-wear store Pearle Vision really impressed me with my visit for both an eye exam and purchase of frames. I have to admit, for a random chain store in a strip mall in Freehold NJ I was not expecting much more than the bare bones. To be fair, I realize the doctor doing the eye exams is not technically part of the Pearle Vision business, but for the purpose of the customer, this is an all-in-one operation where you can get your basic eye exam and fill prescriptions for glasses and contact lenses. One think I hate when going for an eye exam, especially at some of these chain stores, is that they insist that you come back for a contact lens fitting/recheck which is usually not free and requires you schedule another appointment. I get if these are new lenses, or you are having lenses for the first time, but for someone wearing lenses for 20 years, this is unnecessary and just kinda pisses me off. I scheduled the first appointment of the day with Dr Borcher, filled out some paperwork, and was in and out. He was honest, straightforward, and very no-frills. He spent time explaining some things to me about my eye exam and the future of my eyes. Again, for someone who has worn glasses/contacts for over 20 years that is pretty impressive. I used my EyeMed vision insurance which was super easy, not even requiring you to show them your insurance card, and the optician staff helped me get the most out of the insurance plan as far as coverage, allowances and discounts. I browsed for a new pair of frames as I hadn’t updated mine in 10 years or so, and the sales associate was very helpful finding the style I wanted. Again, she also worked with me figuring out the best price for my glasses/lenses/contacts and I could tell she was very experienced in what she was doing. In a business like this where people are«obligated» to make purchases, it is hard to find such great service. I really didn’t expect that here-or any other similar place for that matter. Bravo for exceeding expectations!
