Torez Waste complaint
If you need to get a roll off dumpster in the Fredricktown area DO NOT USE Torez waste.
My very first call to them they were not very pleasant on the phone and seemed bothered by call.
Shannon was short and not very forthcoming with information.
I explained the special circumstances of my need for a dumpster and that if everything worked out that this would be the first of three, possibly even four dumpsters that we would need to rent over the next several months. As we were cleaning out property after my father passed away.
The biggest special circumstance that we faced was crossing a small creek that crosses the driveway (which is probably about half the people in Madison and surrounding counties have creeks that cross their driveways.
She assured me that it probably would not be an issue.
The second issue we would have to contend with was the relatively tight quarters that we would have to unload the dumpster since the lot surrounding the house and garage are in a fairly wooded area.
I assured them that the road had been freshly regraveled 9 months prior to us requesting the dumpster and that a tri-axle dumptruck hauling 14000 pounds (7 tons) of gravel made 4 trips across the creek delivering at total of 30 tons of gravel with no problems. also explained to her that in the past 6 months we also had a well drilled and the well drilling rig had no issues crossing the creek or any issues with getting into position near the house to drill the well. The well drilling company also drove in a tanker truck full of water to pump into hole as they drilled to keep the drill bit cool as well as a flat bed full of well casing tubes to drop down the well hole.
We also had a 30' x 40' concrete slab poured for a pole barn and a concrete truck full of wet concrete also crossed the same creek with no issues!
All VERY HEAVY trucks with heavy loads and none of them had any problems on any of their trips across the creek or maneuvering them around the wooded lot.
But in sake of being upfront and honest I wanted to make sure they fully understood the possible obstacles before they came out.
Shannon assured me it wouldn't be a problem.
We set a date and time for them too deliver a 10 yard dumpster (we really wanted a 20 yard dumpster, but too lessen the chances of any problems decided to go with the smaller one for the first time) And once the driver was there delivering it, he could tell us if they could bring a 20 yard on the next trips.
So when the driver arrived I met him at the end of the driveway and quickly explained the special situation and offered to drive him to the final destination of where the dumpster was to be dropped so he didn't get himself into something he couldn't get back out of. My biggest concern was not having enough space to raise the dumpster up to roll it off or not being able to get turned around.
So the driver rode with me up the driveway, across the creek up to where the house was. We got out, walked around I showed him where we would like the dumpster, I showed him where the well drilling rig parked to drill the well (about 40 feet away from where we wanted the dumpster) I also showed him where concrete truck went around to pour the floor for the pole barn and also that the house we were cleaning out was sitting on a full concrete basement.
He said it wouldn't be a problem so I drove him back to get his truck with the dumpster and he followed me until I crossed the creek. I waited a few minutes and walked back to the creek and the driver was standing on the other side. He then proceeded to tell me that he didn't think he could make it across that his truck was too heavy and would sink in the creek. I explained to him again about all of the huge trucks that crossed that very spot in just past year and that most of them were larger and heavier than his truck. He said NO and that he was worried that if he got his truck stuck that he wouldn't be able to deliver to his next customer and would $1000 if he could get them their dumpster!
I was like, this is the first of 3 or 4 dumpsters that we would be renting over the next several months and that he would be loosing out on $3000 or $4000 from me as a customer if couldn't deliver the dumpster for us.
He said sorry and left. About an hour after he left it dawned on me that I should have just had him unload the empty dumpster at the end of the driveway and we could just make trips back and forth with our pickup trucks and fill the dumpster without him having to cross the creek.
So I called back to the Torez office and left a message for them to call me back as I had a solution to still get a dumpster without them crossing the creek.
I didn't get a return call but I wrote it off to bad cell service as it's hard for us to get incoming calls where we are located.
So first thing Monday morning I called back and got Shannon again and I told her of my solution of dropping the dumpster at the end of the driveway where it meets main county road. She said well let me talked to the driver and she would get back with me. As it turns out the driver is the owner of the company and Shannon is his wife.
Several days went by and I didn't get a return call so I called back again and asked if we schedule a date time to deliver a dumpster. She told me that he said he can't cross the creek. I told he COULD cross the creek but he chose not too but that I had abandoned that idea and just wanted it dropped at the beginning of the driveway and that we would make trips back and forth in our trucks so he wouldn't have to cross the creek, that he could just set the dumpster in field at the side of the driveway. She told me again to let her talk to her driver. Another few days went by and I called again. This time they started screening their calls and Shannon suddenly wasn't available that I could leave a message. I played that game several times and gave up!
Then I turned to Google trying to find another waste hauling company that would deliver us a dumpster.
In the process of looking online for other companies I also realized there are a LOT of online complaints about Torez hauling and several of them were the exact problem that I had with them. They don't seem to be very interested in getting new customers. They have a reputation for telling people they will call back and then never doing so. They are very rude on the phone. Shannon and her husband like too talk down to everyone like they are smarter and better than everyone else. Sort of funny that she in the waste hauling business and yet she thinks her sh!t doesn't stink!
Bottom line is don't waste your time with Torez waste they want the easy jobs and don't want to get their trucks dirty.
If you need a dumpster call Strickland Waste Disposal - THEY WERE AWESOME!
Jimmy was very professional, polite and eager too help from the second he answered the phone! They understood the situation and took on the job, they dropped the dumpster exactly where we needed it and crossed the creek without hesitation! They were always polite and professional and they will be delivering the next 2 or 3 dumpsters for us!
For reference here are pictures of the dumptruck spreading gravel on our driveway, a picture of the well drilling rig drilling our new well as well as Strickland dropping the dumpster and them crossing the creek with a 20 yard dumpster which Torez said couldn't be done with a 10 yard dumpster.
