The Tavern

We were in Fredricksburg for a week and found this place on Unilocal.We were immediately seated in front of fireplace even though it was around 6:00 pm. The owners and his son made us feel welcome and were extremely nice and chatty. The food was awesome– one of the best hamburgers I’ve ever had! Loved the fresh jalapeño on the burger. We also has the chicken wings and were fortunate to be there on 10 cent wing night and we orders several different kinds. So glad we happened on this place — just wish we lived closer since this would probably be our new favorite!

The Tavern is a local favorite, that has great food as well as service. It’s literally the only place in years I’ve seen that actually has true specials. Each weekend they offer a meal that is not on the normal menu. All the food is excellent and the wait staff attends to every need and Amanda even remembers the orders of most of the regulars there. Every Monday is Burger night, and the have $ 5 burgers that are literally the best burger I’ve eaten ANYWHERE. There are also beer specials for $ 2, and they have other specials throughout the week, but I don’t know as much about those. The wings are also kick-​ass, and if you’re really feeling hungry, the Shepherd’s Pie is a full 9 in. pie pan full. My wife and I love this place because all the food feels home cooked, the people are friendly and no one gets rowdy. Even though a «tavern» it’s very family friendly. The selection of beers on tap is very good, but it’s the food and service that keep us coming back. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

I get wings in every city I pass through and holy damn, the blackened wings in this place are ridiculous.

We ordered drinks which were actually drinks! So many places drinks are watered down.
Both of us ordered burgers — mine was the Swiss and mushroom and husband ordered the leesburger. Both were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. Plus, they weren’t preformed patties. You could tell from the shape!
We both ordered a side salad — only $ 2.95 extra and they were very good. Mine was Ceasar and husband ordered house salad. Fresh and good!
Burgers came with fries, cole slaw, chips or apple sauce or you could exchange for an additional charge to other sides. I opted for onion rings because I love them. They were very good! Husband ordered the cold slaw and by mistake received fries. Cole slaw was brought right out.
This is not a fancy restaurant by any means, but it totally hit the spot after a day of traveling. Our server was great — wish I got her name.
If we are ever in the area again, we would not hesitate to return.

This restaurant is a local secret we happily stumbled upon. Looks like not much from the outside. Décor inside isn’t much to swoon over either. But if you are looking for comfort food of the fried kind. you can’t go wrong. Burgers, fried pickles, and french fries were aces. Excellent beer on draught. Excellent service. Garishly frightening ladies bathroom paint, seriously check it out.

Great service and delicious sandwiches! My husband had the Rueben and said it was delicious! I had the turkey & cheese and it just melted in my mouth. It was a Friday and sandwiches were 25% off– it’s hard to find great deals like that nowadays. I recommend if you’re traveling and can spare $ 30 minutes.

Great burger. Monday is $ 5 burger night, I had the bacon-​jalapeño option. Their steakfrys are crispy and flavorful and their beer selection is good. They have 4 local options for an out of towner like me to try. Bar side is loud, so sit on the other side if you are looking for a quieter experience.

Went there for the first time on Sat. after hiking… Their AC Was out that evening so we sat outside… Service was great and food was excellent! We had a club and a Rachel sandwich with steak fries… Both were very tasty! Can’t believe we had not been there before!!! Definitely will go back!!!

What a great name. The Tavern ! It’s just that your warm, friendly local place! Great good and service we went there with our kids! Prices are great !

Burgers were awesome, $ 5 burger Monday’s make it even better. Great service and hometown feel. Definitely worth the trip if your in the area!

The prices and the food are good. The only star it missed was in customer service. The staff was great, but there were not enough there to handle the amount of customers they received.

Food is great – love the burgers and the wings. Servers were pretty rude the last few times I’ve been there. Not very nice to my mother which I did NOT appreciate.

Absolutely fantastic. The food was magnificent and the service was impeccable. It’s friendly and the locals love it.

Had the Monte Kristo sandwich and subbed the steak fries for onion rings for $ 1.75 more. Monte Kristo came with a side of pancake syrup, the kind you’d get togo with your order. There was plenty of meat on my sandwich. The onion rings were very good and plenty. They are beer battered.
Hubby had the French dip and it was nice and crispy. He also liked the onion rings. I think the price was a bit steep for subbing onion rings. I really don’t care for steak fries so it would have been nice if they had some regular fries.
Their restaurant menu is a tad different than their online menu. Most of the items are the same it seems.
We came about five mins after opening for lunch and a few tables were already seated. Food was a bit slow but maybe that’s because of the few tables ahead of us. Towards the end of our meal, a huge table of guys came in so this place must be popular with the locals. Would likely come back to try the dinner specials.

Outstanding service, delicious and affordable food. They continue to impress and I love that they are soooo close to my office. $ 5 burger night is a no-​brainier.

Went here to watch the Panthers @ Seahawks on Sat nite.
We had a large group so everyone wanted something different.
We had the double chicken nachos, fried pickles and wings.
Everything was good.
This is a local waterhole with many regulars, not fancy and in use of some
upgrades but adequate for watching a game.
Our server Angie did an outstanding job with our large group.
The sweet tea was exceptional.
They have Legend’s beer from Richmond Craft Brewery and a good
selection of Devils Backbone.

Delicious burgers and wings!!! Burgers are huge. Don’t need appetizer or dessert after.
Service/​food is very slow so make sure to have enough time, but it’s worth waiting for. Mondays burgers are 50% off.

Great burgers, not frozen – can’t wait to come back on Monday when they are $ 5. They should work on the décor, but hey it’s a bar.

Surprisingly good food. Don’t be scared away by the unfriendly exterior. The folks inside are super friendly ala Cheers. Daily specials complement pub fare and dinner entrees that are very good.
We love the burgers, blackened wings (half price on Wed), and $ 22 bottle of cab.

Decided to try this place because we were close and starving. Looked empty and sketchy outside. Glad we stopped. My wife and I both had burgers, with the Thai Shrimp for a starter because it was on sale on Tuesdays. The burgers were really good. ½lb hand formed patties, not frozen, and 50% off on Mondays! I was already comfortable with the $ 9 price tag due to the size of these burgers! $ 5 or lower is a steal! They were cooked just right, juicy and HUGE. We will be back. The service was great, food was good and atmosphere was very quiet. I could see this place being full of locals on the weekends but it was practically empty on this Tues for lunch. Try it out. You won’t leave hungry.
