Friendly’s

The only saving grace is the good ice cream. The service was horrendous. I’m not sure how this place stays in business with all the competition nearby, but it may just be due to name recognition.
As soon as we walked in, the hosts/​servers seemed genuinely unhappy, with some obvious bickering I noticed between the staff. We ordered ice creams for the table, and it still took about 15 – 20 minutes to get our order, with lots of confusion along the way. The place wasn’t too crowded, but it was a Saturday night and they seemed pretty understaffed. It could be a management issue.
This place needs a culture change.

I can’t comment on the food, but my waitress is super nice and my strawberry milkshake is delicious. Homemade ice cream with little bits of strawberries. There were only two other customers in here, it’s 4:30pm, but pouring rain outside. I would definitely come back for more

A tough place to rate overall, but I try to rate places based on how they fair for what they are meant to be. With that said, no Friendly’s isn’t a 4-​star place to eat to grab dinner, but it is a great place to sit down, have a light snack and then some great ice cream. Whether it’s just one of their shakes or Fribbles with your food or polishing off you meal with a sundae, you can’t go wrong with something from their ice cream menu.
I’ll admit, maybe I’m a little impartial with this one, as having Friendly’s ice cream brings back so many good childhood memories, but if you are looking for a sweet treat and don’t mind a simpler, smaller place, then this is the place for you.
As for service, maybe they actually read other Unilocal reviews and have corrected whatever issues they had, because I visited this location several times and was always quickly greeted, seated, and served by friendly (pardon the pun!) staff. Everyone I encountered there was great, especially Deyanira.

The menu has changed. They’ve downsized a lot of things while keeping the cost higher. Example the Jim Dandy used to have 5 scoops of ice cream now it has 3. This used to be a good place to eat but the menu is not very big now and mainly burgers and sandwiches.

Poor service starting with the greeting/​greater. She never acknowledged us and straight up took menus and provided to sit us. We were confused as to what to do? Do we follow or not. The place was not clean, went to the restroom to wash up hands and I was not sure if they forgot to clean the bathroom or if it is that dirty all the time. It was bad… Soda refills for my kids never arrived, waitress was lacking a lot of customer service skills. Bye place was not even busy! Maybe 5 tables all together.

I came here for Veteran’s Day. I don’t think I’ve been to a Friendly’s since I was a child. I got the one of the free meals; french toast, eggs, sausage patties, and a side of hash browns. The food was real good. No complaints about it at all. The service left room for improvement. When I walked in I think it was maybe about four parties in front of me. So it wasn’t by any means crowded like you would expect from Denny’s, IHop, or Bob Evans. As slow as the line moved to get a table, you would think it did. Once I was seated, table service was sufficient.

Although it was a free breakfast for veterans day, the food was subpar. As we walked in we quickly noticed how rundown the place was and the service was nothing special either.

I was skeptical and hesitant when my husband pulled into the parking lot… I’ve passed by this place so many times and the thought never crossed my mind to stop in to grab something to eat. I was pleasantly surprised… attentive staff and very polite. We ordered the all you can eat fried shrimp, and I thought that it was pretty good. Their ice cream desserts looked scrumptious too, except we were too stuffed to consider anything… maybe next time.

I ate here in spite of the bad reviews because I love Friendly’s. Service was very quick and the ice cream and coffee were good. Waitress was very nice. Took away a star because the place was a little dirty. They need to bus the tables faster.

Great food, fast service, friendly wait staff. Stopped here on the way home to NC from MD and will stop here again. Try the soup! Best ice cream and great kids options also.

I have not been to a Friendlys in years and I had low expectations. But I have fond memories of going to one as a child with my mom so I thought that it would be fun to go there with my 4 year old son today. Mistake. The food was ok. It met my expectations. Side salad was fresh but uninteresting. Tomato Basil soup was good. My son had mac and cheese and a frank. Perfect for him. We were really there for the ice cream, after all.
The service was the horrible aspect of this experience. We were one of four tables when we arrived and the waitress was attentive. We arrived at 12:30. But then the restaurant quickly became busy. To my knowledge, there were 3 waitresses, 1 ice cream maker, 2 cooks and a manager. That seems like an adequate staff for the number of patrons. The issue was that these staff members including the manager had no clue of how to manage their workflow. Everyone was «busy» but nothing was getting done. We were there 1 hour and 40 min. Completely unacceptable. It took 35 min alone to get our ice cream. After we ate our meal, it took 20 min to even have the waitress take our ice cream order. No table was ever cleared. One table walked out in the middle of their meal. The waitress was in tears. And she had the nerve to say to me as I departed that she hoped I was pleased with the service today. Um no.
Whoever owns this restaurant should go on Undercover Boss.
If you want same day service, go elsewhere.

Very very good BBQ. Pork was better than the chicken. Chicken was dry. Baked beans were amazing. Mac n cheese was excellent. Great sauce. Amazing people. Very clean. Old building. Definitely recommend. Definitely going back next time I’m in town. Keep up the excellent work.

It’s too bad that friendly’ service has not become more efficient in 30 years. We waited for our food, sandwiches, for over 1.5 hours. The poor wait staff had too much work and too many tables. Also, I think they have to make the ice cream menu items. Once the food got there, it was ok except for the tuna melt which was cold.

I love their breakfast menu but it’s almost completely empty every time we go and we only ever see one waitress working. But I don’t think the service is that bad. Is it amazing, no, but it’s not horrible either.

I went here with my sister and our kids, mainly for the ice cream they get after the kids meal. It took a while to be seated, but had very friendly, upbeat service after that. I hate their selection of food, but what I did get, the turkey bacon club, was delicious. However, they definitely need to come up with something better than Kraft macaroni and cheese. It just seems lazy.

Order to go from here and the staff has been just awesome. Food is yummy and not to expensive.

Worst place I’ve ever been in my life. Should be called sadly’s. Everyone that works there seems like they are on a jail work release. Takes 45 minutes to scoop ice cream.

I strongly agreed faster service is needed ASAP! And a new restroom ASAP! But I come for the banana split it’s soooo GOOD!

Disguisting bathrooms. The service was fast and warm. Quiet atmsophere. Very festive decorations. The food was nothing to write home about but the prices made up for it.

In one word I would describe the food as gross. The service is so slow it is unacceptable. Could be because whenever you look outside, there’s an employee or two outside smoking cigarette. Or the fact that the employees are always too busy stuffing their faces to serve the customers. Never plan on going back here.
