If you want to experience local Fredericksburg the Battlefield Restaurant is the place… we’ve tried going here so many times but have never been able to get in because the parking lot is full or there is a line of people trying to get in. Moral of the story… get there when the doors open. What a warm and friendly feeling of Southern Comfort and style. Nothing fancy schmancy about the menu just plain old down home and simple… what you would expect if you went to eat at Grandma’s or Aunt Bea’s.

Very small but the heart is huge. The food is hot and just like home cookin. Why because it feels like someone’s home. The people are very friendly and it is a nice place to slow it down in the city. This is better than most. Small menu but huge portions you will not leave hungry.

This restaurant gives you that down south home feel. The food is great. It reminds me of my grandmother’s cooking. I would suggest you to come eat there when in the Fredericksburg area. It may be small in size, but the Owner, staff and food is huge at making you feel that you have arrived home. I had the biscuit and gravy.

I’m a fan. Just a wonderful bigger than a hole in the wall local place. If your looking for country chic atmosphere meets got no money to buy fancy furnishings this is your place. It is right in front of the battlefields, thus the name. I had the single biscuit with country sausage gravy and a side of over easy eggs-grits are also included. The eggs were one to perfection and the sausage gravy with biscuit was awesome. Not as good as mine but really good and I didn’t have to cook it. The other order was scrambled eggs(not liquid stuff — real cracked eggs), hash browns, two sausage patties and a biscuit. Again, no complaints. Two iced teas, free refills of course. Our waitress was so nice and we had a bit of local customer entertainment. Some people just use their outside voice all the time. So much fun eating breakfast and learning/hearing exact movie lines repeated. Prices were so reasonable. I would definitely come back here again. Cheap food, good food, friendly waitresses, eclectic. Love it !

Battlefield Restaurant is our first choice if we are in the Fredericksburg Historic District and eating breakfast to begin our day. The service is friendly and prices reasonable. We also come to Battlefield Restaurant if we decide simple sandwiches are for lunch while in the Fredericksburg area. It’s a diner atmosphere with a lot of regular customers.

It’s a cute little restaurant where we were instantly greeted upon entering. I didn’t like the big sign above the register WERESERVETHERIGHTTOREFUSESERVICE that also greeted us. I understand business’ do have that right, but whenever it’s displayed like that I just picture a scenario where they just point to the sign and tell someone to leave. It seems a little hasty. Maybe it’s just me, but it really did bother me. However, the employees were VERY friendly. The food was fantastic! Very simple, basic breakfast food. Inexpensive is an understatement! 2 adult meals and a child came to 15 and some change. I was shocked at that :) Parking is a little annoying but what can you do. I would recommend and return for breakfast!(Don’t think I’d eat dinner here)

We are talking country-style BREAKFAST! The BEST sausage gravy from New York to Asheville, consistently. Also, best Pancake. If you’re looking for a lo-carb or trendy health food, PLEASE!!! What are you doing here??? Go eat nuts and twigs elsewhere! Eggs are fresh and scrapple is delish. Gritty Grits and country ham are tasty. I have been eating breakfast happily here since 1999, always on my way to Asheville. As others have written, the staff is very friendly. If you’re a history buff, this is located directly across the street from Fredericksburg Battlefield and the Sunken Road of great renown(notoriety). You can contemplate what occurred right in front of you while sipping decent coffee. Civil War followers, it doesn’t get better than this; Hallowed ground. A Must experience!

This is your fathers home cookin restaurant. No credit cards, only local checks and cash. This is the kind of place I like to go for a country breakfast. You can sit up at the bar, watch the action in the kitchen and drink a good cup of coffee. I had two eggs over easy, grits, hash browns and toast. It was just what i wanted and April was friendly and had a great sense of humor. It’s not a fancy place and parking can be a challenge but if you are looking for a good country breakfast close to downtown Fredericksburg, this is your place!

I wanted to like this place, but I just couldn’t! I’d like to warn away other hapless diners away! First of all they don’t accept credit cards which, to me, puts out the expectation that their food will be worth inconvenience(spoiler: it’s not.). No sweet tea, which for a southern place is basically unthinkable. Out of sausage gravy on a Saturday morning-lame! The food that we did get was completely unremarkable(eggs), to bordering on terrible(hashbrowns were cold and flavorless), to downright offensive(they served me a biscuit that was clearly microwaved and had that awful hard plasticy microwaved bread texture.) Like I said, I wanted to like the place, the waitresses were very nice(though approximately 75% of them were suffering from meth mouth), and it’s a very cute little diner-like place, but it is unpardonably awful!

Maybe it’s me. But I’m pregnant and will eat almost anything at this point… except for another meal here. I ordered french toast and bacon, my husband ordered a cheese omelet, «homefries» and toast. I have to say what first turned me off was the super-sized walmart brand syrup they put on the table. Really? My french toast arrived and was just cheap $ 1 bread french toast. The bacon just smelled weird. My husbands omelet was loaded with the gross kraft american cheese. The«homefries» were probably walmart frozen homefries and were barely defrosted. They came out this lovely gray color. I’m no stranger to greasy spoons. Hell, I’m pregnant, I’m from the south, load ‘er up. But this place, I felt like I was at my grandparents house and they used their last $ 5 to try and make us breakfast. Save yourself the trouble and go to 2400 up the street. There’s a reason there’s a line out the door. Skip this place. Unless you’re used to the sale bin in walmart’s food section, then have at it!

I really WANT to give them a better rating than three stars because the people that work here are all so incredibly nice, but as a low carb dieter it’s very hard to eat much of anything here. I got the steak, which is exactly what you’d expect for the price, BUT they cooked it a perfect medium rare and had nice sear on it. So the cooking is excellent, the service is friendly, it’s just the ingredients that are on the lower end. perfect place for a cheap breakfast or lunch. Note: they close at 2 everyday so get there early.

The outside of this restaurant doesn’t tell the story of how good the food and service is inside. The menu is home cooked, delicious, comfort food. From the previous review of the place, I wanted to try their biscuits, but our waitress said they just sold their last one. Sitting at the counter next to an older gentleman, I learned that he was the cook’s husband, and he had a yummy looking pancake on his plate. I decided to try one myself, along with a side of bacon. My boyfriend had scrambled eggs with a side of ham and grits, toast. The coffee was decent, and the grits were good – maybe a little on the water side though. My pancake came out and it was the size of the entire plate! It was a great pancake, moist, delicious, and the edges were crispy just how I like them. I asked the cook how I can get a smaller pancake next time, and she said just ask for it, lol. I watched the cook carve up the ham for my bf’s breakfast and it was also very tasty. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and we chatted with them while they cooked and we ate. I definitely want to go back and try some more dishes. Hidden gem in Fredericksburg.
