The Bicycle Escape

I can’t say enough about Tom and the crew at The Bicycle Escape. In the week and a half prior to this review, I was on the final push to finish building a vintage BMX bike from the ground up, a project which has taken some years, as I wanted to be sure I got it right. During this final 9 day stretch, my bike was up at The Bicycle Escape several times for parts installations and adjustments, and Tom personally handled the work. He wasted no time getting every job done and kept me informed every step of the way. There are several other bike shops in town, but for my money, this is the only place to do business.

One of the best bike shops I have ever set foot in. After moving from the Midwest, I needed to find a shop to reassemble and fix our bikes up. Tom and Roger were very welcoming and made our bikes look and function like we just purchased them. Roger and Tom kept me updated as parts would come in and when they were ready. Roger brought me back into the shop and showed me what were critical fixes. This shop is very welcoming and friendly. For anyone wanting to get away from the big box store, this is the store you need to visit as they not only get your bikes working and help you select the right products for your bikes, but also let you know about biking events in the Frederick, MD area. Overall, Roger, Tom and the whole staff are an amazing group of people. We will be customers for life.

We were originally going to purchase our Specialized bikes here but since we live in Anne Arundel County, we purchased them locally. Big mistake! The «other place» was a very long wait for delivery and one of the bikes was missing a small part. The owner of that shop had the audacity to tell us that is «normal“and the really part isn’t missing. So we decided to contact The Specialty Bike Co. and Suntour on our own & they were very helpful and confirmed the part was missing. Suntour gladly shipped the part at no charge via 2 day delivery.
So we decided to go back to the Bicycle Escape to by all our accessories, racks, helmets etc. As we expected: 100% Grade A service with a great inventory. Everyone in this shop was professional, sincere and very accommodating. It is a bit of a trip for us up to Frederick and we envy all the bikers in the Frederick Md area. Great retailer and we highly recommend.

I don’t need a bike, otherwise I would buy it from here. This is strictly a review of service. I went in mid November for a much needed tune-​up and to fix a flat tire. They told me that they had a special going on starting December 1 for the tune-​up and that they would honor this pricing even though I was two weeks earlier. That earned a star. Got the bike next day, super fast service and bike was (is) operating great. That earned a star
Fast forward 3 weeks. The SAME tire has another flat. I assume something is stuck in tread to cause two flats within a month. I get to bike store about 45 minutes before closing. Other than walking (about a mile to home) this was my only mode of transportation. Guy working in shop dropped what he was doing on the other two bikes he was working on to focus and help me out. That earned a star He found a shard in the tread causing the puncture, removed it and installed the new tube for me.
When he rang me up, he just charged for the material, no labor. Saved me $ 10 bucks or something, which is not going to make or break me. It’s just the point of the matter. He said that since I got a tuneup and had the intertube fixed already, he wouldn’t charge labor.
So we are up to 4 stars. Why the fifth star? Cause there is a bad ass tail-​less 15 year old cat named Jimmy roaming around and I happen to have a soft spot in my heart for cats. 5 Stars.
They’ve been in business since 1985 — almost 30 years. I wish them another 30. It’s the little things that matter. This is how you do business.

Love this place! Amazing customer service and best bikes around town. I highly recommend this place. They carry a large variety of bikes and bike gear with reasonable prices. If i ever get another bike or need anything to add onto my bike or for repair, i will only go here! A++

This is my favorite bicycle shop within 40 miles of my home (out in Eldersburg, MD.) Not only are Thom and the entire staff super-​friendly, great with repairs (from the time I took a serious tumble and chewed-​up my bike, to the time I brought them a 10-​year-​old much abused hybrid and they brought it back to like-​new condition,) and have a wonderful selection of more than just bikes (great jerseys, nutrition, gear, etc.)
They also just sponsored the rest stop/​repair station on the Westminster Firefighter 50 («Five Alarm 50») ride this past weekend, and did an amazing job. GREAT support, and I’ll definitely be stopping by the Bicycle Escape to pick up some of the great ride-​snacks I got to try during the ride (the «Stinger Honey Waffle» and «Stinger Ginsting Gel» were both really good.)

The best and most family oriented bike shop in the area. There are lots of shops that do all kinds of crazy high end ultra specific bikes (and The Bicycle Escape does that too) but this is the place to go if you have a family. Great selection of kids bikes, very friendly and good with kids (my kids love going to the shop even if it’s for «daddy’s» bike).
They are the only shop in Frederick that you can walk in and buy a mountain bike, road bike, kids bike, beach cruiser, hybrid bike, custom made American bike and a bmx bike. No other shop can cover all your needs like The Bicycle Escape.

Excellent customer service! I brought my bike here after having bent my rear wheel while riding earlier that day. Part of the frame was also bent and they were able to fix it and get me riding that afternoon. The staff at Bicycle Escape worked on my bike for 2 hrs and got a very difficult job done. They were excellent and I will go back time and time again!

Tom and his group are great at the Bicycle Escape. I know a lot of places tag themselves as saying they are a shop for riders, but here, they back it up. There are weekly rides for both road and mountain bikes. Also they always have time to help you out if you need a quick repair or just want to chat. Finally the selection is the best in town. They can custom fit you for a special order or you can browse the wide variety in the shop. In the market for a bike? Go see Tom and the team!
