Mr. Handyman of Greater Frederick and Hagerstown

Just called this guy to come over and clean the dryer vent which has a bird nest and much unknown stuff in the vent. He just cleaned the reach of the arm and left the rest out and charged me $ 158. When questioned he says he worked for one hour and done. He took 10 minutes to clean the part he could reach and left the rest!
I now need to find another one, pay the new guy, who can climb up 40 feet and clean the rest. This guy did a ridiculous job. No doubt about it.
important point to note that is that, he did not attempt to use any tools or clean the rest of the dryer duct. This is really ridiculous and hopeless work.

Horrible on every level! I needed some plumbing work done. I gave a detailed description to the woman who made my appointment. The guy arrives, we’ll call him Mr. Clueless, and he had no supplies, no pvc, nothing! He then took 20 minutes to explain to me why he had nothing. 20 minutes of time i had to pay for. He then took the next 40 minutes going to Home Depot to pick up the supplies. An hour has gone by and Mr. Clueless has done Nothing. Then he tells me that he can only stay another hour because of some personal reason. So i’m forced to find some other small job for him to do. Not the original job that i needed. I had a toilet upstairs that was not installed correctly, so i suggested he reinstall it. After another 40 minutes, he says it’s done. i touch the toilet and it moves all over the place. Mr. Clueless couldn’t even bother to secure the toilet to the floor! He takes another 20 minutes to fix his incomptence. again 20 minutes i had to pay for. At this point, i want this idiot out of my house. He gives me the bill for incorrectly installing a toilet: $ 330!!! The bill shows that not only was i charged for his shopping trip, but he marked up the items he bought by 50%…and there was a $ 20 van fee? are you kidding me? then he wanted to charge me an extra percentage for using a credit card!!! i was so furious i was seeing red! Mr. Handyman is only interested in extracting and scamming the most possible money from people it can. I hope this review will open everyone’s eyes to their unethical and unprofessional business tactics. Avoid Mr. Handyman at all costs. They will most certainly take advantage of you.

I lost siding in a massive wind/​rainstorm. A family member had tried to repair but wasn’t up to the task so two weeks later I’m frantically calling contractors to come out & give me an estimate to repair the siding. So I contacted several contractors and left messages asking them to contact me back. Not once was I allowed to speak to a live person. I contacted Mr. handyman as an afterthought. I spoke to a live person who took my information and asked when I wanted the job completed. I told her «today», of course. She stated that she had a technician on a job in Brunswick and that he may be able to swing by my house later after finishing that job. She offered to call my job within a set amount of time to allow me to stay at work until he was headed toward my house. She kept her word and I ended up at my house literally five minutes before the technician showed up. The technician went over everything that the phone operator had told me regarding pricing minimums. And stated that he was available to do the job immediately. I said yes and within two hours my siding had been repaired. The technician was professional courteous and experienced. All the work was completed without drama and the cost was much cheaper than I had anticipated. They are licensed and wanted. I asked the technician, Robert, if I called in for other projects if I could request him specifically. He told me that I could. He even said that the company did try to match up technicians that you worked with in the past with future projects just so that you have a degree of comfort and don’t have to start over fresh with a new technician with each project. I like that! I plan to use them again.

Ken came over to repair some fallen siding and pointed out to me that I was missing a gutter on the side of my house. (Thanks home inspector for missing that one!- And of course I never noticed b/​c I live in a rowhome and it’s on the side next to my neighbors, where I never see). I then asked him about a bunch of little things around the house:
Caulk two bathtubs
Fix a threshold on a door to the outside
Repair rotted wood at the door and caulk
Tighten some toilet bowls
Install the gutter and seal
Install a fan in a room
He originally told me that it would take an entire day and quoted me $ 799, which I thought was pricey, however with my time constraints, it was easier to hire him to come out asap. He was extremely helpful the day he was at my house and fixed everything early, so I was only charged $ 621.63 in all. I also asked him about staining my deck and fence, which he quoted as $ 638– 734
