Tuesday night menu, «Comfort Foods», Amazing! Started with appetizer of stuffed clams. Beef Wellington with mushrooms in a balsamic reduction sauce. My guest had the«Surf & Turf», 12oz NY Strip Steak, pan seared scallops & shrimps, asparagus with truffle mash potatoes. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious! I have been to this restaurant a few times and I am never disappointed! Of course I will be back!

This is the most amazing restaurant I’ve ever been to. The people are super friendly. It’s a hidden gem. The food is amazing. We were a party of 3. We ordered 2 appetizers and 3 lentil soups. I had the duck stew which appeared to be braised and was super tender over rice. It was amazing. The other 2 people in my party ordered the sea bass and a seafood curry bowl which tasted amazing. Just a warning. If you go once, you will be hooked and will always want to go back.

We have come back from our home in the Midwest to see the fall foliage in the Oneonta, New York, area. The first thing I wanted to do was to go to our favorite restaurant, the Tulip Rose, in historic Franklin village. But it was closed for three days because of a big wedding, and we had to wait. Yesterday(Oct 6) it reopened and we made up for lost time by eating both breakfast and dinner at the restaurant. The dinner especially was excellent. We had the choice of three entrees: lamb shank, chicken with a thick red sauce, and a vegetarian stew. My wife had the lamb and I the chicken. I also had a seafood soup for a starter. It was so much I couldn’t eat it all, so I brought some home for leftovers. We also shared a pumpkin cheesecake which was scrumptious. And I had to have some Turkish coffee even though I thought it might keep me awake all night. It was superb. As an added bonus, there was live music from an excellent jazz duo of trumpet and string base. We had not been to the restaurant after dark, and found it looked especially pleasing in soft light, with all the beautiful Turkish tile embedded in dark woodwork. The service was very good and attentive as always. The servers are all considerate and sociable. We were glad to see that the restaurant was almost full, even on a Tuesday night. In this troubled world, such an unusual, cosmopolitan and welcoming restaurant run by members of a Muslim Sufi community in the midst of a very small and historically not at all heterogeneous locality is a beacon of light showing how Muslims and followers of other faiths can live together amicably to the mutual benefit of all.

This is the former BeeHive(and Franklin Diner before that… But, this is better than the Beehive. I’ve had at least four entrees here and gyros a bunch of times for lunch as well. I can tell a lot of though and work goes into the food here. No alcoholic beverages, but in their place are tasty beverages such as Thai Iced Tea, and other more interesting, esoteric options as well.

I had a delicious lunch at the Tulip and Rose the other day with hummus, pita, salad and more. Can’t wait to try more from the eclectic menu. I love the décor, pretty, colorful and relaxing. Stop in. It is worth the trip.

My wife, 13 year old son and I stopped into the Tulip and Rose yesterday morning for a quick breakfast before getting on the road back to NYC. We were all 3 so happy we did. The atmosphere was beautifully refined in Turkish décor. The waitress was super sweet and helpful. And the food exceeded our expectations. Awesome experience and delightful breakfast. We will return each time we are in Franklin.

Breakfast with friends and family. We are so blessed to have an authentic Turkish-American restaurant so close to us. And the fact that the people who run it are so wonderful and the food delicious is a huge plus. Check out their Tuesday night special dinners.

Had dinner here last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Cozy; attractive décor; pleasant attentive staff; delicious food; very reasonable prices. Had hummus appetizer, cup of lentil soup, and shrimp makhni — all VERY good.(Had leftover pita & hummus for breakfast — yummy). Will definitely go back. Next time, may try soup & several of the appetizers instead of an entrée — they all sound so good!

I went here near closing time, and the workers were very friendly and did not rush me. I had a chicken kebab, which was the best one I’ve ever had so far in the U.S. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for good food at a good price!

This is the best restaurant in Oneonta that is not in Oneonta. The menu is consistent, exotic, accessible, and, most of all, delicious. So many flavors and not enough time. I’ve had over 6 meals there and each one is better than the rest. I wish they were open every day. I also enjoy the crew. They’re always friendly and I learn something new every time I visit. Also, their dark roast coffee is top notch. TOPNOTCH!

As someone who thinks of himself as a fine dining aficionado I am forced to recognize this restaurant in the most positive way possible. I must say this place is amazing and delicious. Located in a small town near Oneonta NY, the café is a needle in the haystack. The food here is up to par with 5 star restaurants in NYC. I have eaten at many places; but, the food here is fresh, tasty, and relatively inexpensive for the whole experience. The servers here want you to be comfortable and they really go out of their way to accommodate your requests. The place takes a fresh and original take on many classic turkish and asian dishes. I can’t recommend this place enough. It is a must visit.

One of the most consistently diverse and reliably good restaurants I’ve been to in a long time– 5 stars as The Tulip and Rose café gets it right in all the categories: ambiance/food/service/price. I have high praise for this memorable place, and surprisingly found that it «literally» specializes in ALL cuisines. I came here first for breakfast and ordered the chive-topped croissant with smoked salmon and creamed eggs. It exceeded all expectations — delicious. I returned to sample other dishes on their menu and had the traditional English breakfast and got the gyro and hummus to go. What stood out was that each was excellent respective to its origin. The eggs, bangers and mash were tasty and hearty. The gyro meat was tender, well-seasoned and succulent as should be, and the hummus was well-balanced and did not overpower you with any one ingredient or spice(as other restaurants I’ve frequented often do). In addition, I found that as I perused the rest of the menu, for a far more reasonable price than I’ve seen in the city, you can dine on dishes from regions in India, Turkey, Malaysia, to name a few; interestingly, all places with a rich, cultivated culinary heritage. It’s very satisfying that I can go to a café where I have the option of an Italian specialty such as Grilled Cornish Hen with Portobello and Sage Risotto as well as Shrimp Makhni: a coastal Indian delicacy– which I had to come back and try and was glad I did. I’m South Indian in background and have grown up eating traditional South Indian meals — they are not phoning it in, believe me. It’s a testament to the management and chefs that they’re passionate and invested enough to make these dishes shine. I’ve been to places which are pretty ambitious but have rarely seen it pulled off so well as it is here. The ambiance was comfortable, the décor was that of a traditional café with Turkish/Ottoman features, giving it an almost royal undertone, but still maintaining the casual charm of a good ol’ American diner. Not your everyday place, and that is a very good thing. Not to mention the service of a very friendly and hospitable staff whose doting attention is a key highlight. Final thoughts: The Tulip and the Rose Café is a hidden jewel — It’s food is delightful, its staff is charming, its vibe is elegant, and inviting. I would hike here to Franklin, NY, in the heart of the Catskill Mountains to experience it again and again — And I’m from Florida =)

The food here is fresh, flavorful, and a great change of pace. I am from NYC, and have a country home that is about 1.5 miles away from this restaurant. I must say, this restaurant serves NYC quality food. By that, I mean that the food is on par with many 3 star restaurants in NYC. The prices seem to be a little high for this area, but don’t let that stop you from going here. The food is made from fresh ingredients, sourced from local farmers, so the money spent of the food(that I would pay twice as much for), stays in the community. The owners and workers at The Tulip & The Rose are not only some of the nicest people, but are also courteous, hospitable, well versed in the food offered, professional, and make you feel at home. They are like this whether it is your 1st time there, or your 100th. The workers will go to great lengths to explain any of the food that one might not be familiar with. A personal example that I have is with my father; who was unfamiliar with many of the less conventional items on the menu, so they gave him complimentary(read: FREE) tasting of each of the items he was interested in ordering. This is now a place where my father and his friends go to as their daily meeting place for breakfast and/or lunch. The Tulip and The Rose offer a special menu on Tuesdays, along with their normal dinner menu. This changes every week. The special menus offer different cuisine than what they normally offer. As an example of two recent weeks: one week they had a special selection of regional Turkish specials, and the next week they offered a selection of various regional Indian specials, a week later they offered food from Greece. The special thing about these special menu offerings are that they have food from different regions in the various countries. This is good for people, like me, who like to try different kinds of food. To better explain what they do on these days, and strictly as an example of what they do is: one week they might have food from North Eastern Turkey, and another week they might offer specials from Southern India, and so forth. The regional offerings are, to a large degree, on point. I go to this restaurant as often as I get a chance to. They have even given tips to my family and me on recreating the food at home. Not only is the food well made, but the restaurant itself in clean. The décor is inviting, if a little sparse.

Woot! Franklin! That is what I am talking about! (enunciate emphatically; emphasis on IS) For those of you that do not know, Franklin is a smaller town, a village actually. Main Street, the old Catskill Turnpike with all sorts of history that it pretty much keeps to itself, is the strand from which the pearls of houses and commerce dangle. For about five blocks Center Street runs parallel to Main, between the primary thoroughfare and the creek. On the blocks that Center and Main and the small streets connecting them form are a collection of some of the prettiest post-colonial architecture, most tended and pretty a few perhaps as suggestions of what once was and what could be again some day. For what a down payment on a place in the Oakland hills would deliver you could have a five-room circa 1850 mansion with a wrap-around porch and an acre lot and a barn that legitimately once was a carriage house. Some of the homes still have the Catskill Delta mudstone step at the curb so the ladies wouldn’t have to stretch to step into their horse-drawn transportation. For the years I’ve been coming there’s been but one thing missing. A sit-down place to get a tasty bite. The Franklin Diner closed about the time my brother arrived a little over a nephew ago and the Bee Hive that tried to take its place failed apparently because it was a little too citified and that definitely is not what Franklin is talking about so that didn’t last too long. Enter Tulip and Rose, stage left. So interesting, the concept and so delightful that it looks like it has traction. I visited twice this past week, once for supper and a couple of days later for breakfast with the successors to the throne. Each time the cozy space was stuffed with locals and a few that seemed to have come further. I wasn’t able to sample the Turkish fare; supper was on Indian night. And supper, my friends, was delicious. Breakfast the day after Christmas was equally good, though the vibe was a morning vibe and we sat at the counter which is more local breakfasty for me and there were fellows eating before they went to work and others who definitely lived nearby and the prices were so reasonable and the selection broad but not in a crazy way I still had a little trouble choosing. You have to come here! Patronize this establishment, assure its success. Good food, varied food, something a little different but still able to attract and keep the local flavor which it should because what good is a resto that appeals only to people that come from the metro area so far away? Well done, T & R. And thank you. I count the days until I can see you again.

Food this fresh and good is unexpected in a small town, but here it is! I have tried many menu items, and have enjoyed every single one. The gyros are their signature dish — both meat and vegetarian versions, but the rest of the menu is equally delicious. Save room for their fresh coffee and something from the dessert case — the baklava is the best I’ve ever had. Friendly people, great food, beautiful atmosphere. It’s why I keep going back :-)

I first met these guys selling tasty gyros at the Franklin Farmers’ market. After a few years, they bought a former restaurant in Franklin and slowly started expanding the menu. They still gyros for lunch but they now have baba ganoush, hummus plates, burgers and fries and a few ethnic treats. But the dinners are out of this world. A mix of Turkish, Vietnamese, Indian, and American — all of them perfect. Malaysian chicken, curried duck, phở soup, just amazing. And most of the entrees are $ 12 to $ 15. It’s a great deal. Oneonta and Cooperstown have nothing like this. Go now before it’s too crowded to get into.

Surprising find, serving breakfast and lunch. General American omelets and burgers, but also Turkish specialities. The food is excellent, service is very friendly & there’s an outside patio in nice weather. The desserts are fabulous and the prices are totally reasonable. If you are in the area don’t miss. If you can adjust your travel to eat here– do it.
