High Brow Brew

I’m not monetarily wealthy by American standards, but I’m willing to pay a little more for a great cup of coffee from a local business, especially if a pleasant, inviting atmosphere is also provided. I always enjoy doing my office work in a comfortable coffee house.
If that’s what you’re looking for, then this place is probably not for you. The layout and seating arrangement is awkward and uncomfortable — there is a giant table in the middle that was full of 2 – 3 groups of people conducting somewhat loud business type meetings. Then there is a stainless steel bar top and stools all around 3 sides of the square room, that are just too close for comfort. You feel as if you’re constantly excusing yourself or bumping into the person next to you, or those behind you even at the huge board meeting table. I’m 5’7″ and 185 lbs. I should be able to navigate freely through a room that is only filled to half capacity.
So how about the house brew? Decent flavor, and friendly enough customer service. But warm at best. Coffee should be hot. Doesn’t have to burn the skin off and cause a lawsuit, but should at least be very warm. This was lukewarm. It’s on the business to serve it hot; no one likes to be the person asking them to dump it out and brew you another batch. The place isn’t horrible, but not worth trying again for this coffee house lover.

I stopped here on my way out of Nashville– the biggest perk is that they are a local business opened on a Sunday morning. I kind of stumbled upon it though. It has a really cute woodsy-​chic atmosphere and they sell some honey that had to be made by the coolest bees. (It had a hip name and beat packaging)
I got a pour over and it was really high quality and delicious, but as others have said on here, the top falling off was really an issue while driving.
More vegetarian options would be nice, because they offer a parfait, which is nice, but not my first choice. The staff was very nice and accommodating and o got 2 biscuits with jelly instead of meat, but the price was a little steep for the amount of food I got.
I was pleased with the experience, overall but I didn’t give it 5 stars because: lids, price, weird location.

Convenient, good food choices. Odd that I’m limited to only a 6 oz cappuccino. Oh well, lots of choices in the area.
Ok, I’m updating my review. Even though I dislike being told I as the customer cannot get a 12oz cappuccino, I will have to admit that their 6oz traditional cappuccinos are good.

I’ve been spoiled by the coffee here, now no longer satisfied with average coffee. I can always trust that the coffee and food served here are going to be the best! And where else can you get an amazing view of a lake and be entertained by sun bathing families of geese! I enjoy this place almost daily!

Delicious espresso and an amazing cortado, when trying a new place that’s my usual test combo. You can tell the baristas are well trained and they care about what they serve. House roasted coffees and house made pastries. What I tried I loved and I will be back again.
The space is beautiful and lends towards community. What?! You want to meet people at a coffee shop?! No! Thanks for creating a space that is warm and well thought out and well used. And for serving amazing coffee and treats.

A cute coffee shop with a great vibe. Drinks are delicious, especially with their housemade syrups. I recommend an iced Jaggery. Four stars because it’s very small, not good for groups of more than two and a little pricey. They have mirrors surrounding the walls which sometimes makes me feel as if someone can read my computer screen from across the room and it facilitates awkward eye contact. However, I will keep coming back because the service is fantastic and the drinks are delicious!

Love this adorable little coffee shop. The staff was very friendly and the pumpkin latte I had was delicious.

Since Honest Coffee was closed, thought I’d rely on my car GPS to take me to a non-​Starbucks est and so I ended up at a location I’ve never been to, contrary to one review I’ve read, the place was easy to find, parked next to the back entrance and was helped right away by a nice friendly lady. Ordered my mocha and it was just as heavenly in taste as my favorite place to go for my coffee fix. With that said, I will be coming back.

Coffee is excellent. Customer service/​friendliness could improve. Really cute store and nice to sit outside looking across the pond.

I find myself in here at least 3 time a week! My wife and I can’t get enough of their chai and coffee:)

Good atmosphere. I liked the options for ice cream, particularly the cherry flavored one. The lemon cake was fantastic!

Very neat and quiet coffee shop. Great for working or studying.
Have a very pretty lake view. I drove 30 mins to get here and I feel very worth of it.

This place is nice inside, but they encourage and expect 15%-25% when you sign their iPad after waiting at the counter. But they don’t want to walk around the counter to deliver your food? Not a great experience.

Was hoping for a better experience, but I’ll give them another try next time I’m in the area because I prefer to support local coffee shops. I really want to like this place.
First off, good luck finding the shop. I knew exactly where it was supposed to be based on GPS, but I overlooked the place twice due to poor signage and ended up driving around that same building twice and then wandered further around to a different section of Westhaven before finally seeing a sign for it!
I feel the drink menu (coffee and espresso) is a little limited. They do have different food options including baked goods, biscuits, and even ice cream. It was after I had ordered and paid for my mocha that I found the muffins wrapped and stored on a centerpiece server on the middle of the big table where patrons were sitting. So I went back and grabbed one and paid separately. My mocha was on par. The muffin was just not very appetizing. The service was fine, but they didn’t go out of their way to smile or make you feel welcomed.
Oh yeah, my lid came off my drink twice, but fortunately it did not result in a major spill. I had trouble getting the lid to fit on my cup.
They also have tea and coffee by the bag for sale, as well as gifts. The place is beautiful and rustic on the inside. I’m hoping next time I have a chance to stop in that I can upgrade my review.

When a place is called High Brow Brew… You just know you gotta go in — great people great service great drinks —

It is pretty unique that I give a coffee shop 5stars, but this place is def. worth it. Just like this place, pretty and unique.
It looks like page 74 out of Restoration Hardware magazine.
The staff are friendly, and knowledgable without being pretentious. The right amount of hipster meets soccer mom (within walking distance to WestHaven)
Coffee and espresso are well made.
Good small selection of local baked and frozen treats. Not necessarily a «breakfast place» unless you consider a muffin & coffee breakfast… And if you do, I don’t trust your life choices.

It was love at first sight. This place caught my eye from the car window– Rocking Chairs on the front porch over looking the lake, Mason Jars, a Water bowl out front for Pups, etc. The atmosphere is everything I’ve ever wanted in a coffee shop. The Baristas were friendly. The Bourbon Caramel Latte was refreshingly not over bearing (sweet) like most coffee shops. It was fantastic. Not to mention the Latte art. You go, High Brow.

Hubby and I love living in Franklin, and while we don’t live in Westhaven, we frequent this neighborhood for the great little Chinese place next door. This past weekend we noticed a new neighbor to our stir fry haunt, and had to pop in.
It seems they only opened two weeks ago, and Hi Brow is a coffee place, a pastry place, and an ice cream place as well. It’s a small little shop, but the coffee aroma triples its square footage if the front doors are propped open like they were on the night we visited.
We enter the front door and see this HUGE farmhouse type table with this amazing chandelier and glass domed cake stands, wire baskets of pastries, and random other goodies with comfy benches to prop up a seat. On one side there’s a cooler with chilled beverages, and at the back there is a small ice cream freezer sporting about eight flavors and a helpful, smiling barista.
We had just eaten and of course were not hungry at all, which means I got ice cream. I picked a buttery caramel traditional cream based something or another flavor, and it was yummy. It was rich, way rich, I could tell I’ve been on pinkberry for a while now… a nice little treat.
A plus for some would be that they serve you ice cream in a cup with a wooden spoon, felt like a balsa wood or something. I’m all for saving the planet, and I get that plastic is practically forever, but I gotta say the sensation of that wooden spoon in your mouth with ice cream… not a fan. It was just weird.
Will we stop back in another day? I’m sure we will. And I’ll opt for a cone, and probably pick a less rich flavor for my palate, but cute nonetheless.
The barista/​ice cream scooper lady said the name Hi Brow comes from the name of the farm the owners also own. And if you’re thinking that huge neon sign is just an HB and not Hi Brow, you’d be right. Signage isn’t big here, but in a community like Westhaven, that’s OK. Cute place, independently owned, stop in for a visit.
