Tried this place one night driving«home» from a late flight. The décor is that of a 50’s diner– old fashioned red and white. We were immediately greeted at the door and seated right away. When we looked at the menu, we were floored at the extremely low prices. We didn’t know whether to be happy about it or take it as a sign of really bad food. They have a menu that features meals for under $ 4… UNDER $ 4!!! They include a burger and fries. Seriously??? That’s just unheard of. We ordered their original burger,(him with cheese, me without). At first glance, they were reminiscent of Freddy’s burgers and fries– two thin steak patty burgers and thin stick fries. The buns were pretty generic and we got lettuce, tomato, and pickles as well. To our surprise, they tasted pretty similar to Freddy’s and we love Freddy’s. We did not try any of their shakes– what they’re famous for– but we will be going back soon.

After shopping at the outlet mall in Simpsonville until they closed, my friends and I were looking for a late dinner in Frankfort. We decided to get Steak ‘n Shake to bring back to my friend’s apartment. There were four of us, so we thought it best to go inside to order instead of doing the drive through in order to not put the staff through the hassle of 4 separate orders. It took about 12 minutes for us all to get our orders. The young lady taking our orders at the counter was friendly, but the lady who appeared to be the manager spent her time walking around mean mugging people. She really appeared to not want to be there. As for the food: it is a cut above typical fast food. The burger was great, the meat tasted like meat, the toppings were fresh, and the cheese was nice and melted. The fries are shoestring, thin fries. They are crispy, but not too crispy. With fountain drinks you have the option of adding a flavor: lime, cherry, vanilla, etc. I really enjoy adding the flavor to my coke(even though it’s an additional 29 cents).

Saw. Lot of reviews saying this was not in very good shape but so far it looks clean enough. Service is hectic because place got crowded all at once. Perhaps because others also tried to go to the Chilis next door, but could find an open parking spot. We are crossing our fingers. Well it was just ok. My daughter ordered a burger with everything but onion, so of course they brought her a burger with onions. We ordered shakes. They came in to go cups. We saw others get much nicer ones served in nice glasses. But the burgers were good if a little small. Do not order the salt and vinegar fries. They just put a horrid sprinkle in them that makes the top layer inedible and the bottoms with no flavor.

Manager greeted us at door pointed at a table said let me clean off that table for you. She cleaned it we sat down she turned around and said to us did I say I was ready for you to sit down with a hateful voice. Again remember this is the manager. We will never visit here ever again.

We came here right before the lunch rush at 1130. At around noon, every table was packed. Our waitress was very nice. The dining area was kept clean and cleaned at a quick pace as the restaurant filled up. My mom had the taco salad which she said was pretty good. I had the jalapeño chicken sandwich which was pretty OK. I’ve had the jalapeño burger before and preferred that more. My dad had the chili bowl and that was good too! We got the Carmel pretzel shake to go which was delicious! We had quite an enjoyable lunch!

Came here at 2am and the girl got our order perfect and provided drinks as soon as she saw cups starting to look empty. Bathrooms are pretty gnarly though.

I’ve ate here the last two nights during my lunch hour. Both nights they were understaffed and the service was slow. My waitress, Mary, was very cordial and stayed busy so I’ll give her a break. Another employee left and said she’d come back despite them already being under staffed and a line of people waiting to be seated. Management really needs to look at having more people on staff. The food was as expected a notch above fast food but nothing to really write home about. I’ll continue to eat here cause it’s not fast food and is better than the circus that is Waffle House and their drunk crowd.

Road Dog Checking In… This is a very sad Steak & Shake, I walked in and noticed that the tables had food and dirty dishes on them. Ordered a grilled chicken salad and the cabbage was brown and scary. The waitress agreed that the cabbage was scary and took it back. At no point did a manager stop by, to see that I was ok or that the replacement food was acceptable. Note the restaurant was not busy and the tables stayed dirty for the entire time I was there. I also waited around for my bill at the front counter and they couldn’t find my bill or my waitress. Bad Management = Bad Service=Bad Customer Service. Drive a few miles further and find a better Steak & Shake down the road. Be Safe & Happy Travels

How can a chain get things this wrong this often? People usually don’t go to chains for high quality, they are looking for a consistent, predictable experience. If you got to a Steak’n Shake, you’re expecting a diner that’s a half-notch up from fast food, served quick, and in and out in no time. Done right, a Steak’n Shake should be a two or maybe three-star experience, not a one-star. While on my lunch break from work, I’ve stopped by this location twice, and had the exact same lousy experience. When I try to order an iced tea, I am told they don’t have any iced tea. It’s on the menu, I see the large dispenser, it makes me feel more than a little cheated. The queasy, sick feeling I get in my stomach after eating there is unmatched by almost any place else I eat. I don’t know if it’s the grease, or what else it could be. The first time, I thought it could be a fluke, but it has repeated itself. Service is consistently weak, and I’ve been left sitting there for a prolonged period waiting for my check, or waiting to order, in a mostly empty restaraunt more than once. The sign says to wait for a server to seat you, and even in a mostly empty place you’ll find yourself standing there for a couple of minutes before anybody comes to seat you, it’s happened to me more than once. Essentially, I came here repeatedly looking for a fast, decent lunch and got a truly mediocre meal served poorly.
