We thought the Point Betsie lighthouse was going to be the main event on our sightseeing tour, but we really preferred the Frankfort Lighthouse! You could walk right out to it & the beach was much better — bigger, lots of sand, not too crowded. They let people have campfires on the beach here, and there was a group sitting around a fire playing guitar music. It really added to the ambiance as we watched the sun set. Plus the lighthouse & beach are at the end of a really cute street lined with touristy shops and people riding beach cruiser bikes. The whole town of Frankfort really surprised us with all of its beachy cuteness. :) Warning: there were dead fish on the beach!(We saw them at Point Betsie, too.) They are tiny, but there are many of them — watch where you walk/sit. :P

A must see! You can walk out onto the pier. Walk right up next to the lighthouse. The lighthouse has been kept in great condition. Loved this surprise.

This old lighthouse is perched picturesquely on the west side of downtown Frankfort. Driving down Main Street takes you to a parking lot overlooking a wide beach, swingsets, and the walk out to the lighthouse. Signs warn that the walk is potentially dangerous, but there were plenty of people out there on a fine summer day. The beach there is very nice, with plenty of space, swings, and places to hang out. The town itself is also a charming little place to stroll. And, if you are interested, you can buy the lighthouse!
