The food is good. However, the service is not that nice… That’s why I give three stars for them…

Being lived in Shanghai for many years, the food here did NOTHING to cure my craving for Shanghainese food. Here are the reasons why this place only deserves 2 stars: 1. I had to write down my own order on a blank piece of paper. The server barely spoke to us when we came in. He just handed me a pen and paper along with the menus. I had to ask him what I was supposed to do with it, then he told me to write down my order on the paper. Great service, huh? NOT! 2. The NanXiang Steamed Pork Buns(南翔小笼包) is nothing, I say NOTHING like the real pork buns from Shanghai! The skin was thick, there was no juice inside the buns, and the pork filling was huge and hard. The Steamed Pork Buns are the most basic and most famous Shanghainese food. I don’t know how you can call yourself a Shanghainese restaurant if you can’t even make the most basic item. 3. The prices were outrageous, and portions were small! When I paid $ 7.50 for Noodles with Fried Onions and Dried Shrimp(葱油拌面), I expected a good portion of noodles, but instead, I got an embarrassing small amount of noodles enough for maybe 5 bites. Though the flavor was good, but it was a huge rip off. 4. The Sweet and Sour Ribs(糖醋排骨) was not bad. Although, it was not exactly like the real Shanghainese version, but the flavor was good. However, it was overshadowed by the hefty price tag! For 2 people, we spent $ 56, which barely filled us up. A Chinese restaurant who charges $ 1.25 for a bowl of hard and dry rice is not a restaurant I will ever visit again!

My friends from Shanghai introduced me to this wonderful Chinese restaurant specializing in Shanghai cuisine. If you like lobster, you must try their Boston lobster cooked with secret sauce. It is just amazing! If you want to try something authentic, I would recommend smelly tofu. You might love it or hate it, but you will never forget it. If you are okay with some fat, definitely order the Dongpo meat. It is a masterpiece of Shanghai cuisine. You cannot say that you have had Shanghai cuisine until you have this dish.

So we went with the old standard pu pu platter and fried rice. Mostly Asians dining there that day. Service was kind of slow all around. It took about 25 – 30 minutes for the platter and another 10 for the rice. Rice was good fresh and hot but 9.95(wow).Chicken fingers were tiny, you get two spare ribs on the bone per platter though they smelled like wet dog for some reason, no egg rolls, unappealing spring rolls instead, crab Rangoon teriyaki and chicken wings were good. No dress code for the staff, the waitress was wearing Larry Bird style short shorts. There were a couple of elderly Asian gentleman just wandering around the dining room and popping in and out of the restroom frequently for some reason.

Best chinese food in America. I believe it is family owed businees, and they just do a wonderful job with the food and service.

PlEASE put pictures of your items in the menu for us non-Chinese customers. Your empty tables will be more full more often which means better business!

Really delicious food. I agree with the previous reviewers that this place has the best Shanghainese(eastern Chinese) food that I have tried in the greater Boston area. This is great because Shanghainese food is not spicy and it’s good for people who don’t like spicy food(even though they do have many spicy food on the menu too to cater those who like spicy food). When I went there on Sunday night this reataurant was packed! And the owner told me that have been open for more than 30 years! Thumbs up!

Emerald Chicken was yummy but a little oily. The vegetable fried rice was super tasty though.

Wonderful service, great gluten free selection. For gluten free, I recommend general tsao’s chicken and the rice noodles. They accept American Express, and they are very prompt when you are ordering takeout. I have not dined in there but it looked very cozy. This is a great go to whether you are gluten free or not.

The women working here were so very nice. It was busy and just 2 of them were running the show, but they were great. It was slow service, but understandable, we could see what we were getting in to and decided to do it anyway. I think it was because it’s a holiday? The food was delicious. We shared some really good crab Rangoon, beef teriyaki and Peking ravioli to start. They were so good, could have made a meal out of just those. Cashew chicken was good, a little too much sauce for my liking but still good. I forgot my leftovers on the table and one of the women came running out after to give it to me in the parking lot. So sweet.

The most authentic Shanghainese Restaurant I’ve ever tried in Boston and its surrounding area in MA! Thanks God! There aren’t those stupid orange chicken, general Gau’s chicken, sesame chicken, or Kung pao beef which are disasters for the real food lovers and created only to cater for the non-Chinese. Love this restaurant!

Some good, some not. First of all, if you’re looking at their online menu — it’s not officially theirs. All of the items are correct, but the listed prices are significantly cheaper than the actual ones. We ordered takeout: 2 ravioli appetizers, a pork dish, a beef dish, and a small steamed rice. The online menu said this should be about $ 40. When we went to pick it up it was about $ 60! We commented about the price difference and they just said that they can’t control what’s online. Okay, I get that, but it was a lot to spend for 2 basic entrees and 2 small appetizers. The dumpling appetizers were good — very typical and what you’d expect. The entrees, however, were very bland, nothing special. For the premium we paid, we would have liked some flavor. We’ve been much happier at Three Gorges in Framingham. It’s just a hole-in-the-wall takeout place, but your order is ready in 10 min max, the prices are decent, and most importantly, the food has great flavor.

Came here because I have to eat gluten free and the reviews on most sites said their GF menu was awesome. I honestly cannot say how the food was because we were there for an hour and a half and never got our food. Took 30 min for the waitress to even come over. Looking around at those being served and those clearly equally as upset/confused as us, they clearly are selective about who they serve. Been so long since I have had Chinese food since finding out I had Celiac’s disease and I am so incredibly bummed. Very glad I left before realizing you do not have the option to tip or not. Just for perspective… it was a Wedn night and the place was definitely not full.

Best gluten-free Chinese food I’ve had around here! The food was very well prepared and executed, with good taste, however the flavor was not very strong. For example, asking for«as spicy as they can make it» resulted in ‘barely spicy enough to taste.’ At someplace else I would have regretted that. They brought out a side of hot oil, which brought the level up to where I could taste it, but for a Chinese restaurant, I expected more spiciness. The greasiness level was comparable to the other Chinese restaurants in the area. Service was a little slow, but being a mom-and-pop place, I really wasn’t too bothered. They really seem to make their name on repeat customers and gluten-free. While I was there, there were a fair number of people, of all ethnicities, which the owner seemed to know fairly well. That to me is always a good mark, to have people who like someplace well enough to come back again and again. With respect to the gluten-free, from what I understand 30+ years ago, a kid with Celiac’s came in asking for a soy sauce-free meal, and they started doing wheat-free for him, then more of their friends came with similar issues, etc, etc, and now voila, mostly-gluten-free. I think the only thing not gluten-free on their menu are the scallion pancakes. Portions are decent, however do not come with rice. Fortunately rice is quite cheap. All in all, decent food, and a huge bonus for being gluten-free.

Very good food! We came here for the GLUTENFREE food as our son has celiac and he can get very ill from gluten. We were thrilled to find Uncle Chung’s! It’s our«go to» place to eat! The service was great and very friendly waitresses!

Fairly typical Chinese fair. We came here on a Sunday morning for Dim Sum. Not your typical Cantonese dim sum with carts being pushed around and small plates of food for grabs, the dim sum here is ordered from the menu and before shying away from the $ 7.5 price tag for some of the items, the portions matches the price. I had to order my favorite Shanghainese dish — dan dan noodles(spicy soupy Sichuan noodles), the flavor is just so-so, I wish they had put in some of the traditional preserved veggies to spice up the flavor, the only veggies are green vegetables. The tang yuan(mini sesame rice balls) is excellent, perfect soft sticky texture on the outside with warm sesame, I gobbled down the dim sum dessert in no time. We also ordered leek and pork dumplings, steamed buns and rice, and shao mai. The shao mai was very authentically Shanghainese packed with flavored glutinous rice and minimal of meat. Being really used to my Grandma’s northern Shaomai(which is primarily meat), this wasn’t one of my favorite but my boyfriend loved and embraced every bit of it. The xiao long bao(steamed mini buns) and the dumplings are PACKED with pork meat, I prefer mine more juicy but again it’s personal preference. The beef rib in black bean sauce is fairly light but graciously flavored and any extra oil is soaked up by the flat rice noodles. The wait staff is nice enough but could take a while to get their attention. Can’t wait to come here for some dinner dishes as I was nearly drooling over those chili beef tendons on the menu!
