Thorntons

I’m not much for reviews, but this Thortons is tops in cleanliness, assortment of food & snacks, the coffee bar & self serve ice cream area. Wonderful & helpful crew… especially Robin who makes you feel welcome.

This is one of the best gas stations I have EVER visited. I know, I know– a gas station… How is that amazing? Well, this one truly is a gem. I haven’t visited a Thornton’s before, so I don’t know if every Thornton’s is this amazing and Fox Lake just gets the good review, or if this one itself is truly that great.
Their gas pumps are always clean and well maintained– and their gas prices aren’t that bad either!
Now the inside of the gas station– this is where the magic happens. I have never seen such an amazing selection of beverages all the way from pop varieties, slushies, coffees, cappuccinos and teas. They also have some great toppings to add to your hot beverages, like marshmallows and flavored shots and sauces.
Their «fast foods» section is pretty amazing as well– full of hot dogs and greasy-​dough wrapped meat things, just to name a couple. This section also has some tasty toppings to include on your ‘dogs! I could make a meal out of the condiments themselves– tomatoes, jalapeños, salsa, cheese, etc.
One last shining star of this gas station is the «Refreshing Rewards» membership program. When you sign up for this free program, you get 10 cents off every gallon of gas you purchase for the first 30 days. That’s a pretty sweet deal, if I do say so myself– especially since there are no limitations on the amount of gas you can buy! Can you say winning?! In addition to the 30 days of 10 cents off, you get rewarded for purchasing beverages (hence the name of the program), and I believe some money off your gas after the initial 30 days.
I have been very impressed with this gas station (as well as the nice staff there). When I have a choice of gas stations and Thornton’s is among those options, I will always stop there.

I hate to give this place two stars, but I feel I have to. While the gas prices are competitive with neighboring gas stations, and the selection of items within the store are great, the staff needs a LOT of help.
They’re consistently slow with a huge line every time I go in here. A coffee and doughnut stop here at 5:45am before I catch my train to work shouldn’t take 5 minutes. And it shouldn’t take me 8 minutes to wait for a pack of smokes after work around 6pm (yes, I know, bad habit).
