Really, this is everything you want in a bike shop. The staff and the store layout are extremely welcoming and helpful. Inventory is great. Tech is great. Marty helped recommend a mountain bike for my son. I couldn’t have been happier. He had my «number»: very helpful, knowledgeable, and patient. In a day where courtesy seems to be on the decline, this is a great place to recharge your faith. It was well worth the drive!

Great shop and an awesome bike rental experience! I rented a mountain bike which was new and in great condition. The guys in the shop took the time to set it up for me and gave me great advice about what trails to ride with the time I had available. These are cyclists and this is a cyclists shop so I will be back

Awesome Service! I came in needing to get new tires and a very dirty bike needing to have my bike ready for a weekend trip. They had it done the next day and cleaned up looking very pretty! Offered a cold beer! I will definitely come back for any bike needs!

I had a bike fit at MMC by Jake last fall. I can’t say enough about what a great job he did. I have had my road bike professionally fit before by another fitter so I knew what to expect. This time I took my mountain bike to Jake. He was recommended by a few teammates from San Tan Racing. I was having some knee and lower back pain. I also didn’t really feel like my control on the bike was as good as it could have been. The experience was a really good one. Jake uses all the latest high tech equipment and training to get you fit right. I got everything out of the fit I wanted: comfort, control, efficiency, more power and most of all more enjoyment with riding my MTB Bike for longer hours.

This place is incredible. Owner operated with an incredibly passionate staff. Jake helped us and we had a blast with our rented mountain bikes. I would recommend to anyone. We had 6 guys on a bachelor party from out of town and they were extremely accommodating. Thanks again Jake. Great experience.

We were in from Colorado on a big mountain bike road trip and didn’t have room for all of our tools. Jake went out of his way to make sure that the shock and brake repairs were perfect. They loaned a Scott Demo saddle for me to try without a deposit and helped packing our bikes into the van when we had to store them for our stop in Las Vegas — that’s some serious customer service. Gear and parts selection is perfect as the shop didn’t need to order in any of the parts we needed! We’ll always visit MMC when we are in town! See you soon Jake, I need to setup that fit!

Incredible people. Impeccable service. Quality products. What else could you want from a bike shop? This is my happy place. I will drive 45 min because you can sit on a bar stool and visit over a cup of coffee or a beer while they work on your bike right in front of you. Their bike fit expert is a class act and these owners really understand their customers and are engaged in the community. Love this place!

We were in town from Golden Colorado escaping the cold to get some good trail-​time in when I needed my brakes bled and had a separate emergency front fork service. Jake not only knows his stuff and provides a very thorough tech job, but he provides great customer service. My husband and I enjoyed hanging at the shop and are excited to have a Fountain Hills/​McDowell/​Phoenix shop to call home. When we were in a pinch and had to figure a way to stuff our bikes in our camper van, they offered a hose for us to clean them and help removing the pedals. We gotta find out their favorite beer so we can bring it by the next time we’re in town… because they will see us again! :)

I love this bike shop.
I’m slow. I’m old. I have a cast on my foot. But I have ridden my bike more than 10k miles with the same shoes, same pedals, same fit. I knew I needed new shoes– I knew I needed to be refit to not injure myself– which led me to Jake.
BEST thing I ever did was listen to him and let him adjust my ride position. After so long I thought I knew– but this last Saturday I biked 55 miles post fit — easier and faster (and did I say easier?) than I biked 50 miles the week before. The shop is also awesome. Everything you need from really sincere nice folks — even for an old slow women novice like me. These guys just like folks who bike.

The crew at MMC are doing it right! The shop is clean, well stocked, great mechanics and even a keg. More importantly they have a great attitude. I have been cycling for over 20 years, and I’m noticing some shops hiring snotty bike techs who speak to you as if you’re an idiot. These guys were the exact opposite, they were genuine. First class all the way.

Went to them for an emergency repair to a road bike just before their closing for the day. I had never been there and was not a regular customer. When I came in I was treated like family. They did the repair on the spot in a very workmanlike manner. They were very friendly & very professional. Staffed by mature adults. Place is nicely stocked, well merchandised, clean & orderly.
They have many group rides for both mountain and road bikers.
I would highly recommend they to my friends.

This place is way more than a bike shop — it’s a place to hangout, talk shop and be with friends. Make sure to take them up on their espresso (yes they have a machine in-​house), or if water or beer are more the ticket you’ll be sure to find both in the community cooler. Note if you take a beer bring an extra next time to pass on the love to a fellow cyclist or to thank Jake for keeping you out on the trails and/​or the road.
Speaking of Jake, he’s a brilliant mechanic and has taken great care of my Yeti… Marty is a repository of knowledge and hooked it up on my recent Trek Superfly purchase, including converting to tubeless and throwing in a matching water bottle holder (it’s the little things).
Bonus: They have a shower for those of us who like to snag a ride before work.
In short, these guys go the extra mile to take care of you and your two-​wheeled toys and are a wealth of knowledge for all things cycle… and maybe even life too ;-)

MMC saved me!!! I’m from San Diego, and spent a few days in AZ. What started as a beautiful Monday morning ride quickly turned into a series of flats, 3 in total. I was out of spare tubes, and still leaking air. I rode to FH bike shop, only to find them closed. I was 15 miles from where I began my ride, and had no local contacts for a 911 pick up. Temp was getting close to 100 degrees as it commonly does in the middle of the summer and I was just preying that Unilocal would find an open bike shop near me as walking home was a very undesirable option. Sure enough, MMC popped up and were open on MONDAYS, yay!!! I arrived about 15 minutes before they officially opened, but Marty saw me at the door with a desperate look on my face, and motioned me in. He then offered up a shot of expresso and a cold bottle of water while he set to checking out my tire. Refueled and with 100% confidence in my new kevlar tire, and back up tubes, I was able to head back out and enjoy the beauty of the Arizona desert. Thank you MMC for being open on Mondays, and thank you Marty for your expeditious help and wonderful hospitality!!!

Stopped in with a bike problem and they went above and beyond our expectations. Prompt, friendly and treated us like family. I highly recommend this shop for any and all bike needs.

Rented mountain bikes twice while I was in town. Very friendly, knowledgable and helpful. Easy to get the bikes and drop them off. Recommended great trails. Reasonably priced. I would come back.

These guys are the best! One call and they literally saved me~~~ flat tire on Saguaro Blvd left me stranded. They picked me up and fixed my tire!!! I am beyond grateful — go see them for excellent service, quality products and great selection!!~~

Fountain Hills has been sorely lacking an iconic bike shop ever since I can remember. Not anymore — McDowell Mountain Cycles is that shop.
While the presentation and personnel are undeniably pro, there are bikes and advice for all levels of cyclists. It doesn’t matter if you’re a world champion or a ‘Fred’ (slang for somebody lacking in skills or ability, like myself) — the team at MMC focuses on treating everybody equally and building an inclusive community around the shop. You can even leave a coffee mug there for your personal use after a ride.
In addition to carrying the requisite amount of brands, including Trek and Scott, MMC has a full service, industry-​leading fit studio. I have had the good fortune to be fit on my bicycle (crucially important — I’d rather have a perfectly fitting average bike than an ill-​fitting tour machine) by one of the proprietors, Jake Grantham. Since being fit in May, I’ve ridden approximately 4,500 miles, without the nagging back pain or shoulder tension I used to have and I’m more powerful to boot.
In short, MMC is a great bike shop and I’m looking forward to seeing them drive the community in Fountain Hills forward and be a resource for decades to come.

Great atmosphere, professional service, great people, organized group rides — this is what MMC is about. These guys know bikes, and the shop in is sleek and upscale… without the snobbery!
Jake is the Head Mechanic and I’ve had him wrench my bikes — dude knows his stuff. I feel confident when I leave the shop that it’s been worked on with due care and attention.
I am happy to support this local bike shop and save myself the time of driving into Scottsdale. Keep up the great work MMC, you have a customer for life! :)

Time just files on this bike, you don’t want to get off.
Super smooth shifting, absorbs the road —
The bike is fast, lets you descend with confidence, — no shimmy — corners like you’re glued to the road.
Climbs really well too. I just cannot find any flaws.
At the end of a hard ride you don’t feel beat up, only the good kind of soreness in the bike specific muscles .
This bike allows me to ride more relaxed, leaving me with more energy to put into the pedals.

Major credit to Jake for an absolutely perfect fitting (using on site state of the art equipment). You walk away feeling like you have a custom-​made ride.
I used to be a skeptic about the benefits of an expert bike fitting, but now I can tell you from experience that if you want to get the most performance out of your bike, ride pain free, avoid injuries and ride with a smile on your face, you need to get fitted.
I cannot stress that enough.
— In closing, I’d say there are a lot of good bikes out there, which I could have purchased at a lot of different bike shops, but I bought this one at MMC because of the fitting services they offer, that was the deciding factor.

Visited the shop for the first time today, first off I am so impressed! This is exactly what the Fountain Hills Community needs. As we all know our sleepy snowbird town has some world class cycling and mountain biking, now we have a bike shop to support that! The employees were awesome and super friendly. The store has a modern appeal and great retail selections for all things bike.
