I got my daughter a metal detector today and Greg was very informative and knowledgable about what would be best. He even said I could come back after xmas with my daughter to teach her how to use it. Really nice guy!

Greg is AMAZING. I lost an antique platinum diamond earring in a baseball field. My husband found Greg and asked him if would drive to the East Bay to search for the earring. To our surprise he arrived within an hour and despite 100 degree heat found the earring in 45 minutes with his special detector and incredible skill. He found it in the grass where we had been searching with a simple Garrett detector on loan from the local PD for hours. Thank you Greg. You are worth your weight in gold!

Greetings acolytes! Now forcibly retired, we have sought a suitable pursuit to combat a creeping vegetative, video-game-potato like state which is insidiously gaining ground… (Curse you, Borderlands 2!) Treasure Hunting! We selected the Whites«Spectra V3i» after deluding ourselves that a dilatory study of online reviews and such, would suffice. once again, failed us not, and guided us to a quiet neighborhood in Foster City, wherein dwells Greg Moscini of «Golden State Metal Detectors». (At least we got that sh** right!) Greg flatly refused sell us a V3i, which is Whites«flagship» detector, of which he hadon hand new in-the-box!(retail price $ 1800.00) and literally saved our poor dumb a** a cool grand, despite having a new-in-box V3i on hand! The V3i is a complex, occasionally cantankerous, yet oh-so-sexy beast. A newbie could use it, but the learning curve is steep. It’s intended for seasoned hunters. After establishing our true needs in a detector, he steered us to the Whites MXT-Pro, which sells for around $ 800.00, and which can even out-perform the vaunted V3i in some areas, as well as models of virtually all other competing manufacturers in it’s price range! The MXT-Pro is legendary and is the hands-down favorite of seasoned detectorists world-wide. Due to it’s brilliant design, it is also a great machine for for beginners as well. Greg could easily have slam dunked us into the high end one, but refused to because it wouldn’t have been ethical. Period. And at that time, he had no idea who«Captain Pie Hole» is. He does now. Your Commanding Officer is proud to call him a friend. If you trust Your Captain,(and thousands of Unilocalers out there apparently do) you can absolutely trust this guy. Captain Pie Hole.

Just upgraded to white’s MXT& I was very appreciative of all of the helpful advice on how to use it. He had what I was looking for in stock– the detector, a good pointer and some digging accessories, gave me a good price + threw in some extras. I highly recommend his shop– it is clean and has plenty to choose from in new and used models– and he knows just about everything there is to know about them. Caution for those going there expecting free advice for something you did not buy there, he is not going to waste his time with that– so don’t bother asking…

Another five star review for Greg, who is one of the only local dealers left in the Bay Area. Some people buy complex items like metal detectors online, then wonder why they can’t figure out how to use them. The reason is, you need a local dealer like Greg to help you choose the right detector, then train you to use it right. Here’s an example: If you buy a metal detector online, will you have the chance to try it out on a coin that’s been buried for 15 years? Greg has a coin garden that he buried 15 years ago, so you can hear the actual tones you will get from a buried coin. There’s a big difference between a dime buried for a long time and one that’s sitting on the surface. Another example: Have you tried five different detectors of different manufacturers? Do you know which type you prefer? There are a lot of differences. Greg will let you test detectors, and explain what kind is better for what you want to do. So drive over to Foster City and buy a detector from a guy who will take care of you.

Count me in as another fan of Greg’s great old-school customer service. He knows what he’s talking about, and he gives it to you straight, trying to best fit your needs rather than sell you the highest priced products. I was wondering whether a metal detector might be useful in our business, and from the moment I first called, Greg was incredibly helpful and generous with his time and information. I went so far as to visit his shop and spent 20 minutes with him trying to determine what might work. While I ended up not making a purchase(because a metal detector simply can’t do what we need), Greg will be my first stop if I ever do need a detector.

I was looking to buy my first detector. I did a TON of research online. I had pretty much zeroed in the make and model a White’s MXT Pro. I like to shop local for things that require service or instruction. So I went to see Greg at Trans Bay Metal Detectors. I knew what the big internet stores were selling them for and was doubtful that he could be competitive pricewise. Boy was I wrong. He matched the online price and threw in some extra stuff. The best part is he spent a couple of hours teaching me how to use it. Also if I ever have any questions in the future all I have to do is call Greg. As another reviewer said, there is a learning curve for metal detectors and not knowing how to use one properly can lead to frustration and missed targets. That’s why it’s important to have local expertise. Greg has been a detectorist for a long time and has that expertise. My advise is to do your research online like the metal detector forums, then go see Greg.

Okay. So I decided I wanted to upgrade from my Garrett Ace 250. I researched and read and selected the DFX300. Shopping around, found one on Amazon, and purchased it. While waiting for shipment, I realized there was a discrepancy in the item description and photo. The seller confirmed this, and I told her to wait until I talked to Whites Metal Detector customer service to find out what she was selling, as she had no idea. I connected with Jim, who was knew exactly what he was talking about, and he suggested I go to Trans Bay Metal Detectors. THANKGOD I DID. Greg of Trans Bay met me at his relaxed but impressively stocked sales space. After meeting his three great dogs, Greg proceeded to give me a two hour introduction on how to use the Whites DFX. He walked me through every aspect of this very sophisticated yet surprisingly easy to understand detector, carefully explained each function and the new-to-me detector nomenclature. If I had purchased off the net to save a few dollars, I realize now I would have struggled to understand the DFX — the initial first impression would have not been good and I think this would have lead to frustration and loss of interest. Greg’s DFX Didactic made me confident that I could master the DFX and have fun with it. Not only that, he programmed in a custom program based on his years of experience. And he gave me a GREAT deal along with LOTS of accessories. I took it home, and immediately ran to the two local playgrounds I’d gone over thoroughly with the ACE250. I found $ 1.50 in coins within a hour. And these are tiny playgrounds. If you’re in the SF Bay Area, do yourself a favor. You might save a few dollars buying online, but the price you’ll pay to get over a detectors learning curve could be steep. Let Greg flatten out that curve for you so you’ll be quickly on your way to enjoying your detector instead of fighting it. It’s well worth the trip to Trans Bay Metal Detectors
