Surprisingly good burritos at a Chevron gas station. I’ve tried multiple items and they’re all full of good flavor and good portions.

This place could benefit from a visit from the health department. Yesterday I stopped here on my trip from Humboldt back to Sacramento. I ordered 20 $ worth of food so my family wouldn’t have to make unnecessary stops on the trip and walked over to the bathroom. The bathroom requires a big key attached to a large squeegee handle. Needless to say touching the bathroom key is a disgusting thought knowing how little people wash their hands after doing their business. While I was away my girlfriend and her mother witnessed the chef handling the garbage and doing general cleaning before making our food. At no point did she wash her hands. When I got out I personally witnessed her walking around the chevron station, in a way that made it appear the head Chef of Aztec Grill is also the janitor of Chevron. I immediately asked for a full refund. I can’t play around with germs in my family’s food. We have a family member with very low immunity due to their transplant. The kid at the register didn’t seem to believe that my girlfriend witnessed the garbage incident, but he started the refund process. Two minutes later he had to bring in the manager of Chevron. The manager spent another 20 minutes fumbling around with the register. According to the manager the machine wasn’t able to give me a refund because it was still processing the initial payment. After almost a half hour she sent me on my way with my receipt, took down my name and number, and assured me she would have her supervisor take care of it that day and contact me when it was finished. During this time the manager kept giving me this odd speech about not being able to give me a refund in cash, though I had never asked for a cash refund, and repeatedly told her I understand. Her attitude about the cash refund was bordering on rude considering I never once asked for one. Unfortunately no one contacted me, and when I contacted my credit company this morning they told me the payment had not been returned. A simple ten minute talk with the customer service representative fixed a problem that the manager at Chevron wasn’t able to fix after half an hour. I made sure to sanitize my hands after leaving Aztec Grill/Chevron. That bathroom key is disgusting, do not eat any food here until they get rid of it. This nasty key is touching the same surfaces as the food from the grill, as well as basic gas station food and drinks such as slim jims and redbull, and receipts. Not to mention the people at the register are handling this key and scanning the customer’s items. Not once did I see them wash their hands either. Do not take my words lightly when I say this key could have the potential to spread E Coli and other feces related bacteria. Cross contamination is a serious issue and should be important for any business whether they’re a 4 star restaurant or a gas station. Fortuna was the last piece of civilization before our three hour drive through winding mountain roads. My family and I chose to go hungry over getting sick from this place.

So this is like a western version of Taco Bell, but it puts TB to shame. I tried one of their $ 1 tacos and was blown away. I mean, I expected nothing good for $ 1, but BAM — it was actually decently flavored and the meat was of a decent quality. I was shocked. The service was good at this location. If I had more time in Cali, I’d try some more food from here.

At first, I thought this was a restaurant, in its own building. My GPS however, pointed to a gas station. I looked all around the gas station for a mexican restaurant. I can sure smell the greasy cheesy burrito smell but the location eludes me. Then I realized the gas station was the restaurant. You see, you have to go inside and get your burrito. This is not really a sit down and bring your family to eat kind of dinner place. This is for getting the job done. Eat the burrito and get the fuck out.

Love the pork or beans and rice grande burritos. It’s weird to be able to get a fresh and healthy meal from inside a gas station, but it is worth it! Be prepared to wait, sometimes it gets busy.
