The turkey sandwich was pretty good, not impressive though, a little pricey for what you get. They are much like the sandwiches that you can order from a Kroger deli. I am giving this place 4 stars based on the customer service. The three individuals working were absolutely phenominal. They were so polite and kind. It was refreshing to see that at a casual/fast paced dining establishment. There was a really rude lady there the entire time I was there. She never said thank you, was demanding, and rude, but the gentleman handled her with care and was the bigger person the entire time. Props to this establishment for hiring great employees!

We enjoyed the healthy and Fresh Food! We liked, that we could Choose the different Ingredients. The overview of the Meal was a little bit difficult

Great Outdoors never fails to amaze me. their bread is so soft & fresh, their meat & cheese selection so good & plentiful. and their ice cream & milkshakes?! yes please!!! try their cherry chocolate ice cream(I think it’s called cherry bomb) — the cream is savory + so good. don’t go for the ambiance– instead, grab a sandwich and take it to the Botanic Gardens about 5 minutes away.

My hubs and I went to TGO after visiting the Kimbell Art Museum. They are so close, you could walk! Anyway, the atmosphere was a little messy. Construction on one of the doors, darkish inside, etc. The sandwiches were a bit expensive($ 7 plus for a six inch sub with no drink or sides…) My husband got the Great Special. Nothing special about it. Just a standard sub sandwich with meat and cheese. He was not much of a fan. So, why do I give 3 stars? I had the hot Italian sub. It was awesome. Meatballs, provolone. Delish. We may try them again sometime to see if the hubs has a better experience… but we will probably pass.

Freshly sliced deli meats and cheese, limited veggies but I honestly really come back because they have fresh sprouts, giant pickles and pickled peppers. If you know me, I love anything pickled. And it is better than Subway. I don’t have a favorite sandwich because I’m always trying something new. It’s great to pack away for later or just something quick.

I’m going to really miss this place now that we’ve moved to California. I don’t know why or how they do it, but this restaurant makes sandwiches like you’d hope to prepare at home, but they’re just so far superior than anything you’d be able to make. It’s like a Subway, but with real food. And you’d actually want to be there, smell the smells, & eat the food. The people working here are always nice to my husband & I. Tons of seating. Love it & will miss my weekly turkey & cheese with black olives!

One of my fav. sandwich spots in town. The original creations are great and customizable. You have to pay for substitutions, which is a little ridiculous, but it’s still a great sandwich.

Yum. I am so glad I happened upon this place while my girl and I were driving around Fort Worth. We were originally going to go for ramen but since they were closed, we came in here instead. Thank goodness we did! This area(Rowlett) is in desperate need for a place like this. Great quality cold cuts, good bread, awesome fixings. Can’t get any better. Staff was really nice and the price was just right. Also, they have great pickles! I hope to make it back here again. Get the Outdoorsman! After all, you are in Texas so go big or go home!

Love the great outdoors! Forget Subway, Jimmy John’s or any chain sandwich shop… FOREVER. The quality and freshness of the ingredients has no comparison. The staff is always friendly, the place is clean and the food is consistently good. They sell subs, salads and ice cream. Their cookies are also pretty good. Nothing fancy about it, just straight forward good sandwiches.

The first time I stopped by this location we had less than stellar customer service. The place was empty and the guys behind the counter were not that great. Instead of actually paying attention to us they were joking around with each other. Well we came in again a couple of months later and the customer service was great. Food is very good as always and I’m glad we had a good experience because I love The Great Outdoors and would hate to miss out because of bad employees.

Definitely one of the great Fort Worth staples you just have to try. Always exceptional customer service, and whether you come in to a long line(the norm) or walk in to an empty restaurant, the food is consistently great!

Waiting in a very long line at Great Outdoors, was feeling antsy about the wait. But these guys have great customer service skills and people skills, they made it fun for everyone waiting and played games and what not to keep people smiling. Good job guys. The sandwiches are always good, but it’s things like that that keep people coming.

The original is still the best. Great Outdoors was around decades before all the other sub shops and it still reigns supreme. My wife and I stopped in Great Outdoors for lunch after church. We had not been to Great Outdoors in so long. The serving line was building with the after church crowd, but the line was moving fast. My wife and I ordered our favorite subs adding on one of Great Outdoors delicious shakes. My wife ordered the chicken salad on a croissant and I ordered the«Outdoorsman» on wheat. One of the best things about Great Outdoors is their bread, it’s fantastic and perfectly baked. Our shakes were rich and creamy. We had a wonderful experience and will return again REAL soon.

So I have had a craving for Great Outdoors for quite some time. Before this sub-restaurant-proliferation we have had in recent years(Jimmy Johns, Jersey Mikes, Which Wich, Potbelly, etc.) Great Outdoors was one of the few places in Fort Worth where you could get a nice, freshly cut sub. Considering its been too long since a Great Outdoors trip, we decided to roll it in to one of our days of running errands. The place hasn’t changed much in recent years and it really doesn’t need to. Just your standard sub shop, really. The best feature is that you get freshly cut deli meats on your subs as well as the choice between a sub roll or a freshly baked croissant. For me, I went old school and had roast beef(double meat) on one of their delicious croissants, with munster cheese. Definitley was not disappointed. It just goes to show that sometimes, simplicity can be a very good thing. Not a whole lot of crazy advertisements or gimmicky sub creations here. Just subs that are simple, fresh, and delicious.

Not a lot to add to the previous reviews, except to agree that this place is an awesome spot for sandwiches. I had the chicken salad, and it was great. Simple, tasty… not fussed over like some chicken salad. And the croissant was really tasty too. Convenient location to the hot spots in Fort Worth(Cultural District, Zoo, Gardens).

Sandwiches are very good. Ingredients are often made there, and the taste is obvious. Their variety is great without being fussy, and the bread stands up to the sandwich beautifully. Real sandwich lovers know what I’m talking about. And they *know* how to put the toppings on so they don’t slip around all over the place! The ice cream… OK, if I was reviewing just that, I’d give probably 2 stars… maybe 3. The ice cream itself is quite good. They have standard and excellent flavors without overwhelming you with options. My issue is this. I received such tiny scoops of ice cream for my $ 6 sundae I couldn’t believe it. I asked for«cherry topping»(thinking I’d get something like cherries in a syrup like you usually see), but instead he just put about 6 maraschinos on it. Alright… I can live with that… but when I ordered HOTFUDGE and you gave me chocolate syrup… REALLY? Seriously?! Then you told me you’re out of whipped cream. UHM… did I order a sundae or not? Sigh. Please excuse me, I take my ice cream very seriously. I won’t be getting that here again… but as for a lunch stop when visiting all the best stuff in Ft Worth, this’ll be the place to go.

Going to the Great Outdoors can be a little overwhelming your first time there; especially during the hustle and bustle of the lunch rush. The line begins at the far left of the restaurant where you stare at an extensive menu behind a deli counter. You can essentially just tell the person behind the counter what you want on a sandwich and make your own stuff, the menu is helpful and they have great concoctions. Also, put the campfire mayo on any sandwich you get! It’s delicious. Also, also, get the Dill chips on the side. It’s one of the only places I know that has them.

Why have brunch when you can have GO? They really need to open a franchise in Houston because its just really inconvenient for me to drive 5 hours for a sandwich. Never split a sandwich, always bring your GO cup, and sit by the campfire. The only thing that would make this place better is happy hour. Who picks the music for GO? It’s on point.

Not bad, just okay, I’ve had worse, but I don’t consider this place special in terms of product or value, although I would say it’s «good», especially if you’re hungry. I guess the biggest disappointment is that the sign«Great Outdoors» always makes me think of exotic travel in a beautiful wilderness, and then all I get is this sort of kinda dirty, average subway shop that uses styrofoam cups for their coffee, and then I really get bummed out. Time for a year long hiatus in Panama, even though I bet they have styrofoam there.
