Trying to find childcare is always a difficult task. My daughter began at Children’s Courtyard in August so that I could return to work for the school year. Never once did I ever see her summer program teacher standing. My child would beg me to not attend school. This is something she has never once done, and she is a very vocal and opinionated child who loved education. I decided to wait it out until the actual school year began. Needless to say, it did not improve. Her 4 year old class was completely out of control. I walked in one afternoon to a little boy strangling my daughter, the teacher was too overwhelmed by a plethora of behavior problems to pay attention. The next week my daughter complained that the same child had punched her in the stomach. A week later I arrived to see a classmate screaming at her, immediately tears began to pour down my daughter’s face, and again the teacher was too overwhelmed to pay any attention. Academics also seem to be lacking, scaffolding should be a technique every teacher should be aware of. It allows for a variety of learning levels. I must admit, she did enjoy learning in Spanish daily. After weeks of my daughter begging not to go to school I moved her this week to a public school preschool; she is learning about things on or above her level during this valuable year. She wakes up excited and ready to prepare for her day. She also tells me she is not scared of someone hurting her. On Monday my ex-husband told them that we were changing schools. I received a call today requesting 2 weeks notice. After everything I have personally seen I am terrified for what occurs when I am not there the other 8 – 9 hours a day.
