Summerlin, Jerry Owner – Texas Star Home Inspections

I wish every inspector getting licensed was like Mr. Jerry. Not only is he an amazing professional but a truly genuine person also. His knowledge of homes is incredible and any home I ever think about will have to be approved by him first. He wasn’t concerned about his invoice he was concerned about my family and our safety in our future home.

I was lucky when I chose Jerry Summerlin as my home inspector. When I first called Jerry he was very polite and courteous on the phone and had me fill out the form to get scheduled. I was in dire need of getting an inspection on the next two days and he was able to fit me into his schedule. The form was very easy to fill out and he got me scheduled. I believe he said it would be between 12 and 4pm for my inspection. He had already gotten at the home early in the morning and began the inspection! I called and asked him what time he would be there and he let me know that he was already there doing the inspection and to come down there in an hour when he was finished. When I arrived I was expecting to sign a sheet and get an inspection form. Well I was extremely surprised when he walked me through step by step floor by floor on everything that he saw as an issue! This was great I have not seen this level detail in a very long time! I have worked in IT for over 20 years and as a manager I haven’t seen this kind of experience in a long time even from the best of my IT technicians where detail is extremely important when troubleshooting and getting detailed information on issues that we face in IT. He walked me through and told me what was broken and how it could be fixed and also explained why it could have broken in the first place, he also gave me tips on what to do to prevent future problems with the door to my terrace explaining the water back effect! It was alot of information and if I didn’t fully understand what he was explaining he would explain it in an easier manner for me to understand. He was never impatient and extremely friendly and honest about everything in the house. The inspection was long but it is VERY important when buying a used home to see all the problems before purchasing it, I loved the fact he made the inspection feel like it was 15 minutes but it was actually over an hour walking through (because of all my personal questions)… having this kind of an inspection felt like it was a friend showing you what was wrong and how I could get it fixed. He did not feel like an inspector but more like a friend, you really don’t get this kind of experience when you get a home inspector. I highly recommend him for anyone to catch all the issues in your home. If you don’t feel the same way as me, I’m sure its cause you had a bad day or you weren’t interested in getting a good inspection. Seriously this guy should be training all the inspectors here in Texas to get them to the level of expertise, customer service, and honesty.
On the level of honest (I’ve NEVER had this happen before), he accidentally charged me for a rate of a normal home vs the town home during the inspection. After I left (I thought the inspection fee was really good compared to the other quotes btw) Jerry called me an hour after the inspection and told me it was actually lower! I was so shocked he apologized and was sincere that it was a mistake… I’ve never had someone call me and say «Hey I accidentally overcharged you, its actually less». his honesty knows no bounds! And his rate is the most competitive rate on the market! I called a lot of inspectors before Jerry who said they were too busy and they charged a minimum of 450… he charges a lot less than this and provides excellent customer service!
If you need an inspection please use Jerry Summerlin I’d give him a 10 out of 5 stars if it was possible.

We moved to DFW less than 1 year ago and this was our very first home purchase. Jerry is a plethora of information. He has a vast background of plumbing, roofing, yard care, etc. and uses the wealth of his knowledge to inspect your home. Throughout the inspection he also took the time to teach us information about the different aspects of our soon to be new home and about North Texas. He pointed out some items that our builder did not as well. I feel much more comfortable purchasing this home thanks to Jerry of Texas Star Home Inspections.
