Little Germany Restaurant

This is the best German food anywhere outside of Germany and better than many restaurants in Germany. It is delicious! Several times we have made a trip to Ft. Worth’s wonderful museums and have gone out of our way afterwards to eat at Little Germany.
The sauerbraten and jaeger dinner with spaetzle, red cabbage and German potato salad is a real treat! Ask if they have the schweinhaxe on your visit. It is great pork hock brined first and then quick-​fried and succulent.
And save room for dessert!
Go to the Little Germany restaurant, The food is delicious and the wait staff are knowledgeable and friendly.

Great place to go if you like German food. The portions are HUGE and the service was awesome. The beer was great too. This is a small place but it has a great vibe with friendly staff. I love this place and I’ll go back soon.

Had one of the best dining experiences at Little Germany! The food was wonderful but the service was beyond compare! If you go– ask for Ms. Julie. She is the best woman you will ever have serve you.

This is a good restaurant but has the potential to be very good, even great. The ambiance is that of a hole-​in-​the-​wall restaurant, which some restaurants can get away with but this one really didn’t. It almost seemed like they are trying to decide where to fit into the landscape: downtrodden, mid scale, or upscale. The pricing reflects an attempt to move up but the building and furnishings don’t reflect that direction.
The food was another matter. I’m told everything is prepared from scratch and it tasted like it. Good, solid German dishes. Nothing spectacular but nothing disappointed either. It is worth another visit but I can’t say that this is my go-​to restaurant for German food yet.
One last note, it appears they have limited parking. Since we had dinner there it really wasn’t an issue with the the adjacent business closed for the day.

Really good German food for my first time.
I’ve had bratwurst and sauerkraut before, but have never really had authentic German food. Finally tried this place out. Nice cozy and quiet place for a Monday night. Decided to get the combo plate ($ 20) to try as much as I could, and leaving leftovers for later. It came with pork schnitzel covered in mushroom clear gravy sauce, turkey schnitzel over the gravy sauce; I chose the beef wurst and pork wurst for my 2 sausages (the veal was another option); and three sides: crispy German potato pancakes with apple sauce dip, mixed veggies, and German fried potatoes.
My favorites were the sausages and thin, crispy turkey schnitzel.
The service was great. Only one waitress but wasn’t very busy at all. She was very patient in explaining the cuisine and very helpful in choosing what to eat.

I would encourage everyone to stop by Little Germany despite its rundown appearance, inside and out. The food is better than the view, particularly with the construction around the building. Nonetheless, I found everything about Little German mediocre. I’m equally surprised at the 5-​star reviews at with the 1-​star ones. I got the Vienna dinner, which is a breaded fish with a couple of sides. I also got the potato pancakes, which as with everything else, were OK, but far worse than places I have visited here in Dallas. Little Germany earns points for having huge portions of food and a great, cheap beer selection.
The food seems fresh and well made, but Little Germany has nothing that sets it apart from or above any other German place in DFW. I wouldn’t mind returning, but I’m going to head to Greenwood’s or Edelweiss next time. They are a touch more expensive, but I know the experience at Edelweiss is much more impressive, and I hear Greenwood’s has a master chef on staff.
In short, stop by Little Germany if you’re very hungry, but visit the other German places if you’re looking for a memorable experience.

Decent German food. Lunch portion was very generous. Too bad drinking a beer for lunch is taboo in the USA. Oh well.

I was hungry for some German food and I made a really good choice. The portions were large and very fresh and tasty.
The place is a small old and a little scary to look at. But if Unilocal hadn’t had a good review I would have gone somewhere else. But as Unilocal is GREAT for letting other people know about these little gems hidden in neighborhoods all over the country.
I had the German Steak dinner plate with sautéed onions… Extremely good food and again it was a large portion for very little money.
This place was very reasonable on price. And the servers were friendly and prompt.
I will return soon I hope.

Worst German I have ever had. 6 years spent in Germany to base this off of.
I tried Little Germany based on its high reviews and was sadly disappointed.
The goulash was green, ok different, flavor was good.
I got the pork dinner. It was breaded like deep fried chicken and the pork was overcooked. The sauerkraut was holding hot and mushy (microwaved), the spaetzle was acceptable at best.
Portions are huge and shows why the food was not cooked correctly. Price is cheap so I guess you get what you pay for.
Very disappointed, will not be back to try it again.

Holy Sh#t! That Ham Shank ya’ll!
There is no way one person could or even should finish an entire ham shank in one sitting. There is simply too much salty, crispy, fatty, heavenly meat to consume all once. You’d just be punishing yourself. This could easily be split by two people with healthy appetites or three light eaters.
I noticed some reviewers complaining about the sides and something I’ve noticed with German food and just European food in general is that here in the US we tend to use way more salt and butter. Now I’ve not been to Germany so feel free to send me a «compliment» saying I’m a complete idiot but I’ve noticed coming back from Italy that we over-​season our food in the US. So I can understand why some people don’t like the sides and claim they have «high standards» or whatever but just realize that shouldn’t be a knock against German food. It’s because your palate is used to something else.

I’ve eaten here numerous times and I always enjoy the food and service. Unfortunately, Unilocal never reminds me to do a review until WAY after when I’ve been there and I can’t remember what I ate. I really like the food. I’ll be glad when the road construction in the area dies down, though, so it’s easier to get in and out of.

I can’t believe I haven’t written a review on this one yet! Well, I suppose it is a case of «out of site, out of mind». You see, my lunch buddies aren’t nearly as big of fans as I am of Little Germany. That is why I don’t get to eat there nearly as much as I would like. I suppose I will survive… I just hope Little Germany does as well. That is why I need everyone who reads this to go eat there. Look, the food is absolutely amazing, so you won’t be disappointed. I wouldn’t steer you wrong.
I would give Little Germany five stars if I were drinking beer when I went. But, I don’t get to drink beer when I eat lunch because I have to keep my job. I am not bitter about this… much. It is not Little Germany’s fault that they keep an array of beautifully crafted German beers in stock while I cannot partake in the golden nectars of the gods as I enjoy the excellently prepared German cuisine! It is not their fault! But, I still take one star away.
Where was I? Oh, yes, Little Germany’s food. The food is excellent. I think I already said that. I am sure the beer is great as well.
I can’t write this review. The tears in my eyes are preventing me from focusing on the screen. JUST GO EAT AT LITTLE GERMANY! THE FOOD IS GREAT!

Very good food and service. I have yet to have a bad meal and walk away content on the whole experience. Half the time I just let the staff pick what to serve me. You’re usually greeted like family. Kraut, red cabbage, sausage and schnitzel are staples on the menu.
What would a German restaurant be without beer? Nice selection on tap and more in bottles.
If you can, save room for the strudel and bring friends to share it with.

Ordered rouladen with side of hot [German] potato salad. Chose the salad over soups (choices were potato with sausage, something else I can’t remember, and also goulash — was tough to say no to the goulash).
Beer came out quickly, then the salad and complimentary bread, which was served hot. Brown and white bread slices but honestly they weren’t anything special. Butter was blended with herbs, and I’m not convinced it’s real butter. Either the herbs are masking the flavor, or it’s a blend/​substitute/​margarine. Pass on that. Salad is chopped iceberg with some red cabbage and tiny croutons that (thankfully) aren’t sharp enough to shred my gums. Their house vinaigrette is very tasty, herbalicious, actually. Impressed. Oh, yeah — has a few onion slivers — just burped up some oniony goodness .
It’s Saturday at 7:30pm, and parking lot is at capacity with about 4 spots left in the back. However, place is only half full. Needs employee parking apparently. We have the big screen playing the SyFy channel with James Franco goofing around in a hot air ballon. Nice.
Well, here’s the run down: spaetzel is cold. Red cabbage is warm, but not hot enough but it seems well flavored and might be decent if served properly. The rouladen is not so great — it’s supposed to be steak wrapped around a gherkin, and of course there will be some creative license. But this was funky. Was like ground beef molded around a dill with a bacon strip attached to the underside. This ain’t my ex’s Mutter’s recipe for sure, or anything I encountered on trips to Berlin and Cologne. Going to try the apple strudel for funsies… cuz I’m here and all.
While I’m waiting: beer selection is meager and the usual Hoffbrau suspects. There’s also a huge jukebox in here. It better play play polka. I’m too jaded right now to walk over and find out.
Caveat: I’m not a bacon fan.
Strudel came out. Three words: WTF? It’s a dinner plate covered in slop, at least at first blush. Yup — this beast has been microwaved. It’s literally smoking hot and a pile of mush. After turning/​stirring and eating the mediocre ice cream while waiting, it cooled enough to eat. Bah! No flavor, a pile of mush, no spice. No discernible pastry. Definitely skip this. Others might be impressed by the size but it’s horrible. Give that $ 6 to a homeless shelter or the SPCA.
Highlights: can get a dark beer; very friendly service; very clean; a local business so your money isn’t supporting a machine; not ultra busy and may never ever be; also serves Bud Light if that’s your thing; has American flag in center of dining room (could be leftovers from holiday); plants are real; apparently serves a $ 23 ham that weighs in at 2.5 lbs (because sometimes you just gotta have a damn ham).
Check total $ 38 for just me — rouladen, large beer, side of potato salad, strudel (before tip).
Won’t be back.

OMG EAT HERE NOW! Hard to get to with all the construction on the Jacksboro Highway, but so worth the (temporary) aggravation.
This restaurant has been open 5 years, but the owners and chef have been cooking authentic German food for a long time (they used to be at Edelweiss, a landmark FW German restaurant on the U.S. 80 traffic circle).
The place is as nondescript as it gets. Homemade hand painted signs try and let folks know that despite the traffic disruption this place is open for business. It is located behind a run-​down Texaco gas station, but don’t let looks dissuade you: what awaits you inside is AMAZING :)
We were greeted with generous baskets of fresh white and black bread, served hot with a flavorful compound butter — but don’t fill up on bread!
Next we had small iceberg lettuce salads that were scrupulously fresh but otherwise unexciting — UNTIL we tasted the house made German vinaigrette dressing. Perfectly balanced, spiked with fresh herbs this dressing should be bottled, it is that good!
We had lunch portions of the Jaeger Schnitzel served with authentic thin German potato pancakes (served with applesauce of course) and homemade spaetzel noodles. The schnitzel was thin, tender, and not greasy at all despite being breaded and fried. The mushroom gravy was not at all
light on the flavor or quantity of the delicate fungi. House made spaetzel were tender and eggy, fresh and light.
Two of us ordered the daily special, a ham shank. We had never had one before, and were shocked when a human head-​sized chunk of tender, braised pork shank appeared, whose thin fat layer had been rendered deliciously crispy on the outside from being deep-​fried. This shank was crunchy, Tender, salty, hammy perfection, and could have easily fed three adults.
One of us got the obviously house made red cabbage, which was not the slaw style but was rough chopped them cooked in a tangy yet slightly sweet brine, redolent with spices.
Housemade sauerkraut looked soupy, but you could not miss the whole juniper berries studding the cabbage. We had 4 – 5 berries in ours, which added a lovely flavor without overpowering the pickling brine for the kraut.
Despite our huge portions of food (which we boxed up to go), we got one order of apple strudel for dessert. Be warned: this strudel is evil and HUGE — it served all 4 of us with ease.
The strudel is OBVIOUSLY homemade, with pools of melted butter and liquified brown sugar over perfectly stewed apples on a tender cobbler-​style moist crust. It was so awesome that I forgot to get a picture of it before we had eaten most of it!
What a gem — don’t pass this place up. Appearances DO lie!

This is a STRONG THREE
Driving up, this place is a total dive, but inside, it almost feels like a house turned into a restaurant. Our servers were super nice, attentive, and helpful the whole time. I wanted to try a little of everything, so I ordered the combination dinner and shared with a friend. The servers are really flexible with what sides you want, so I was pretty happy with the selection they had. Before the meal, they give out free bread and butter. Its nothing special, but its still nice to have.
For the combo dinner, my friend and I decided on two links, schnitzel, red cabbage, cream spinach, sauerkraut, and little potato pancakes. Honestly the meal was hit or miss. The schnitzel was amazing, but the sausage had little flavor. The red cabbage was really sweet, while the sauerkraut could have been a little more tart. The creamed spinach was not as exciting as I thought it was going to be, but the potato pancakes were spot on. The pancakes had the right crunch, flavor, and the sour cream and apple sauce that came with it made it even better!
My friend and I were pretty full, but decided to trudge our way through dessert. The german chocolate cake is not super sweet, but it also didnt burst with much flavor. The cake was wonderfully moist, so it works great as a light dessert. The apple strudel they serve is huge, but not every bite was amazing. But I enjoyed the strudel way more than the cake.
I have mix feelings about this place. I know they are a small business and offer something that I rarely see in Dallas. But, I wasnt impressed with what I had and really cant recommend tis place unless someone is only ordering the schnitzel.

Julie was excellent. Not only did she make kind and non-​intrusive conversation with us, but she went above and beyond! She went as far as to wash and refill a sippy cup we had with us (greasy from kiddo hands) and to bring the food out to the car picking us up in the rain.
The food was good, and the portions were huge! The garlic butter for the bread is absolutely delicious and I loved the sausage and potato soup. I got Munich style sausages with 3 sides, spaetzel, German potato salad and potato dumplings. All of the sides were tasty but the sausages were by far the highlight of the meal itself, for me. I also had a medium Hefeweizen which was delicious and of course paired well with all the food, not to mention the yummy potato pancakes!
Final notes: the atmosphere and hole-​in-​the-​wall qualities honestly make this a hole-​in-​one. If you take nothing else from my review, I say go there, get a big beer, and DEFINITELY get the potato pancakes!
