GuidePoint Systems

I have been with GuidePoint since 2010 and every year the customer service and service in general is getting worse. I have had it installed on 5 different vehicles, initially thought the service was great, but over the years it has constantly gotten worse. Frequent can not locate vehicles. I have had to replace 4 units, lifetime warranty used to cover everything, now just covers the unit, you pay for labor now. Signed up for lifetime service on all the vehicles, over time the services keep getting reduced, now they say, «Your plan does not cover that.» What is amazing, it did for 4 years prior to now. Can no longer recommend this product, just saying, buyer beware.

Please do not get this service if your car is in an accident in a different state other than where the place or remove their devices.
I had transferred my device last year from old car to new. When my new car was involved in an accident last Thursday night, I have been on numerous phone calls trying to get someone in CT to take out my device from a totaled car. No one is willing to come. I am advised to tow my car from New Haven to Hartford Ct, about 45 miles away to have the device removed. According to the Gieco evaluator who assessed my car a total loss, thinks its a health hazard being that my car is hybrid, it can risk electrocution. The mechanic at where my car is at, will not attempt to take it out since he would have to mold or remove crushed parts just to get to it.
This is one way they are trying to make another 800 – 900 bucks.
I am doing my Masters, and I cant waste any more time on the phone with these people. People who are suppose to be available ²⁴⁄₇ and take more than 24 hours to tell you what billing will say. After my 36 hours, I was told to have it towed again (Thursday).
I think I will be using another company unless they can replace my device so I can have it in my next new car.
Waste of time and money.

Horrible customer service, activation process is not as seamless as they say it was from the dealer. Called on a Saturday was told by representative there was no one in activations and I would have to call back. Called back Monday they took information and said that the activation department would have to call. I don’t sit in front of my Cell phone every minute and missed a call about 1 hour after I initially called so I called back… well I got told again there was no one available in activation again so now we are playing phone tag. I am on my third call back to the company and am now just waiting so I will not miss the next call as it seems like there is only one person who works in activations.
In short I had other systems like this one and If I would have known I had this many hoops and troubles to jump through I would have chosen to not install this system. Lojack on my other car was a very simple and painless activation that happened in about a 20 minute call.

Not only is GuidePoint great at alerting you that your car has a low battery, but 2 years ago they helped retrieve my car when it was stolen right off the hotel’s lot while I was on vacation, and this was in CANADA!!! I live in Boston! I’m happy to have this service. Their employees are kind and thorough! Keep up the great work!

I recently got my system and I love it! I can find my car whenever I need it from the app on my phone and I really like the impact protection. I never liked car alarms, I think they are annoying. I wanted a system that notified me when my car was being tampered with and this system solved that need; I get called by a live person if my systems goes off. I really recommend it.

These guys are great. I really don’t get all the hate they’re getting on here. I have the Guidepoint anti-​theft thing in my car and the thing has pretty much worked whenever I needed it. Like, maybe I had a slight issue once or twice if I remember correctly, but I just called the people that actually work inside this place and they helped me out big time. The tech support guys reset my system and got everything working and the customer service gals were very helpful, too. I considered giving them a much lower rating, but I realized that I hadn’t even given them a chance to help me and that’s really where they blew me away. I realized that when I had the system installed, I didn’t actually know what the hell I was getting. I assumed I knew what it was and just kinda nodded my head «Yes, yeah, yup…» and when I was asked about whether or not I had any questions, I just totally ignored the rep. (I was calling to activate my system, which the dealership kindly reminded me to do. NOTHING works if you don’t activate!)
Anyway, now I called and realized I have a TON of features on my car that I didn’t even know about.
Did anybody else understand that you get a freakin’ Personal Assistant via the Guidepoint app? Yeah, I booked 3 things already. It’s actually really awesome.
Easiest 5 out of 5 after I called to actually find out everything I could do and fix the little glitch I had.

I don’t know what these other 1 star guys are saying. They probably work for a competing company. I own it and it works great. Has a lot of cool extras and if you have any questions someone always answers the phone and knows what they’re talking about.

I got my wife’s new car leasing from Honda, I should activate my guidepoint systems, it is a great product and sophisticated technology.
But…the reason for my review is not about the product, but the customer service, I talked to this customer rep (her name is Ruth) and she helped me activating the device.
From the first time she picked up my call, she sounds rude, without greetings me, or at least saying good nite (I’m calling the evening from California). First, I told her that I gave my name to be the first driver, but it turned out that my wife should be the main driver. She sounds like scoffing me from her tone, and she didn’t seem respect me as a her customer.
At the end she just hang up on me without even thanking me as her customer. I don’t know what kind of training that company gives to the employees, without teaching them to be thank and respect their customers.

I purchased a car from a Honda dealer in 2005 and they convinced me to add a Guidepoint vehicle tracking system for an extra $ 900. A year later, I parked in a tow zone and my car was towed to a city lot 3 miles away. This should register as a theft with Guidepoint because they’re supposed to detect that the car has moved without the ignition being started. I called Guidepoint to see if they were aware of this ‘theft’ but they could not locate my car at all — they said, sometimes in small towns the signal gets lost. But this was in the middle of Boston. Then they suggested I upgrade my Guidepoint unit for better reception, but I declined — I’d already spent enough on this experiment.

This company is run by bunch of crooks. The app doesn’t work properly and customer service asked for more money to upgrade you with no guaranty that it will work after you pay more.

I am waiting for my refund from Guidepoint. It was for advance payment and they said under the terms of my agreement they didn’t have to send it. This, even though the system in my car was faulty and didn’t connect to their office. Their «technicians» never called me either. Guidepoint is a scam.

One would think Guidpoint Systems would have worked out one or two major flaws such as… locating my vehicle. Today I was told the system is «sporadically locating the vehicle». Hmmmm. I see this as a problem. And you want me to renew? And pay what?! What exactly is it I pay for? Oh, a subpar service, sure, sign me up! No thank you.

I did buy and dealer installed guidepoint with my new honda car one year ago. it was blue blinking in my car telling my ‘everything is ok’. Today I did login to their web-​site — and guess what — my car is not present in their system. at all. no location, no car model, nothing, zero — blank. what do they «trace»? nothing!
and nobody knows when they lost my info. so all that time it was just fake blue blinking light for $ 1000? I wish I knew how to get them pay back :(

This system is a piece of sh*t, I purchased it for my 2011 corvette. I had installed at the dealership after I activated it I called I. To make sure it works correctly, I asked if they could locate my car for me and they said I had to pay $ 99 a year for a plan so they can located my vehicle. I told them I was just asking for this one time to locate my car so I know the system works! They said they couldn’t do it due to their guidelines! What a bunch of bull crap!!! This system has to be a scam $ 1000 to buy and if your car gets stolen and they don’t recover it in 24 hours they refund you $ 1000! Doesn’t sound right hey give us a $ 1000 for a thing we put in your car that you dont ever see and we can’t tell you where your car is and once your car gets stolen and we don’t find it here is your $ 1000. Wow. So charge 10 people $ 1000 and when 1 car gets stolen give back a $ 1000 that’s a profit of $ 9000 dollars. I think that’s a good business to get into!!!

GuidePoint Systems is a member-​based vehicle tracking (via GPS) and stolen vehicle recovery system. They sell other services or offer member discounts too (e.g., Lifelock, Hertz, insurance, etc.).
Ease of Use
The web portal is clumsy at best. Navigating around is cluttered by Traffic, News, and Weather. Do you really want to log into your vehicle tracking/​recovery system and read the news, etc.
Effectiveness:
This system works to track a vehicle about one in fifteen tries – over a period of days (with the exception of the initial sign up). Great, I’ve seen the vehicle twice in my driveway – but never anyplace else. The number of users on our account is inaccurate. We have three users and zero show up. This is illogical.
Customer Service
I bought a new car for my child. I received the activation code for Guidepoint and gave it to my child to set up Guidepoint. My child activated the account.
I was set up as as a user of the account, but when having trouble locating the vehicle I called Guidepoint – and guess what? The rep wouldn’t give me any information without my child calling and setting me up as an «authorized» user. After I explained that not only do I own the car, but I purchased the Guidepoint – and that I could give them the original access code, the rep refused to give me any information on the vehicle (for security reasons). I offered the original activation code to no avail.
I asked the rep, «Can you see the car?» The rep continued to say that they couldn’t share any information about the car. I said, «I’m not asking about the car. I’m asking you if you can tell me if your system even works!» Nada! WTF? Company policy. Unless the rep was a moron… the company has issues.
I have LoJack on two other cars. I highly recommend LoJack versus GuidePointless Systems!!! I will never purchase this POS system again!!!
